[Top 10] R6 Best Beginner Operators That Are Powerful (2022 Edition)

Powerful Beginner Operators in R6
Ash isn’t using a barrel attachment for her pistol in this cinematic. A beginner's mistake.

How powerful are the operators in the list? Powerful enough to the point that even veteran players still usually pick them for ranked matches. But for beginners, the operators in this list aren’t just powerful because of their firepower. They are powerful because of the knowledge that they can give to the player.

10. Thunderbird

More life, more chances.

The longer the player stays alive in the round, the longer he or she can learn. And healing and revival are what Thunderbird can provide. She’s a perfect operator for a newbie because placing her Kona Stations is easy, and even allows the player to learn about strong defender angles. Thunderbird’s contributions to the team also remain even after her player dies, which is a big morale boost for beginners.

Excels in:

  • Support through healing and reviving
  • Flanking
  • Speed
  • Firepower
  • Contributing to the team even when player is dead

9. IQ

Map familiarity is vital in Siege

People may be surprised by IQ’s inclusion in this list, because certainly, multitasking can be hard, even for veteran players. However, IQ can give a lot of benefits to new players. Her electronics detector, as its name states, detects any electronics in the map. This will allow new players to have more familiarity with camera positions, as well as enemy gadget positions. It’s also a big help to a newbie when the drones don’t scan the bombs during the prep phase. With the electronics detector, the player will know where the objective area is and the general area to attack.

Excels in:

  • Intel gathering
  • Provides more map familiarity to new players

8. Gridlock

Don’t let roamers get behind you

A powerful operator and also straightforward to play. Her trax stingers effectively disables the effectiveness of roamers, and for new players, that’s a big plus. Not only are they contributing to the team, they can also focus more on the anchoring opponents. Not worrying about roamers gives a big advantage to the attackers, especially to new players because there’s nothing more annoying than being killed by an opponent from behind.

Excels in:

  • Area denial
  • Roamer and flanker denial
  • Pushing and bomb planting

7. Rook

Solid protection for you and your teammates

With his 3-armor rating supplemented by his armor plates, new players wouldn’t be easily killed and will have more chance to experience strafing at enemies. Plus, his armor plates contribute to the whole team, so even when the player is dead, he or she is contributing to the team a lot. That’s a good morale boost to the new player and that’s valuable because a lot of times, Siege’s steep learning curve scares off new players, so morale is always important.

Excels in:

  • Toughness
  • Contributing to the team even when player is dead
  • Straightforwardness

6. Lesion

A fun way to learn and annoy enemies

Playing as Lesion would be a very fun way for new players to play Siege. He’s a very easy defender to use with good mobility and good armor rating. His Gu mines are easy to deploy, and let’s face it, even veteran players enjoy throwing them and placing them in strategic locations. Using Lesion will allow new players to learn more about the attackers’ usual attack paths, angles, and patterns.

Excels in:

  • Intel gathering
  • Disrupting the attackers’ rhythm
  • Anti-rush
  • Contributing to the team even when player is dead

5. Thermite

A simple but major role

Thermite’s role can be played well even by a newbie, especially when he or she is backed up by a competent Thatcher. Just attach your breach charge and make a very big effing hole. This also allows the newbie player to learn more about the map layout as well as giving him or her more experience being an entry fragger. And that experience is valuable for beginner players.

Excels in:

  • Powerful entry fragger
  • Major role for teamplay
  • Creating entry points

4. Iana

Advance info on enemies and the map

Her special gadget, the Gemini Replicator is futuristic, but it’s simple enough to use. Just activate it and you can safely scout the map ahead with Iana’s holographic copy. With this, the newbie benefits from two things. One, getting a general idea of where the enemies are, and this lessens nervousness. Two, the newbie player adds more map familiarity to his or her knowledge behind the safety of a holographic copy.

Excels in:

  • Intel gathering
  • Distracting enemies
  • Entry fragging

3. Zofia

Contrary to popular belief

Zofia’s role and gadgets are simple and straightforward. Use firepower superiority to kill enemies. That is perfect for newbies. The only thing I won’t recommend to newbies when it comes to using Zofia is the use of her M762. Its recoil is very rough and even though they improved it in the latest season, I bet it would still be rough for a beginner. So, stick to using the LMG-E which has a low recoil and has a recoil pattern that only goes on a straight line vertically.

Excels in:

  • Entry fragging
  • Rushing
  • Flanking

2. Kapkan

A great rhythm disruptor

Another operator who can still contribute to his team even when he’s dead. He’s now even more powerful because of the update that made it possible for him to put two EDDs in one entryway. Setting up EDDs is a job that is simple enough for newbies and yet powerful enough to kill or at least slowdown even veteran players. Plus, even when the newbie player gets killed, the likelihood of him or her getting a kill from the EDDs is high, and that morale boost from getting kills is important when you’re new in Siege.

Excels in:

  • Disrupting enemy rhythm
  • Preventing enemies from pushing
  • Enemy presence alarm
  • Contributing to the team even when player is dead

1. Frost

Get plenty of kills even when you’re dead

Whenever I get asked by a newbie which operator he or she should unlock. Foremost in my mind is Frost. She is a perfect operator for a newbie to main and learn from. Just from laying Frost’s traps, the player can begin the process of learning the ins and outs of the maps. Plus, after setting her traps, she’s free to only focus on killing enemies.

Excels in:

  • Disabling enemies
  • Contributing to the team even when player is dead
  • More map familiarity for beginners
