[Top 10] R6 Best Defenders That Are Overpowered, Ranked (April 2022)

Top 10 Best R6 Overpowered Defenders In April 2022
The star of this season flexing her elegant yet deadly fashion sense

10. Doc

What should have been a role mainly for support is still one of the best fraggers in the game. His special gadget, the Stim Pistol has 3 shots, each of them heals 40hp and can revive teammates or himself. A shot can also add extra hp to a full health player. This makes most Doc mains go for spawn peaks because they have extra toughness and in case they get into a down-but-not-out state (dbno), they can just revive themselves. Of course, Doc can do the same to any of his teammates, but it’s much easier to just perform this feat on himself, which is understandable. A Doc, especially when partnered with a Rook is very tough to kill.

What makes Doc OP:

  • Ability to revive himself
  • Ability to heal himself and allies
  • Armor rating

Best loadouts for Doc:

9. Wamai

Although the list of projectiles that Wamai’s Mag-NETs can capture is shorter than Jager’s ADS, Wamai these days is a better alternative. Not only have Jager’s ADS been severely nerfed, Wamai’s Mag-NETs can be deployed on a wider variety of angles across the map. And whenever it captures a projectile such as a grenade, it disrupts the enemies’ rhythm, especially when it's being pulled back towards their direction. Wamai’s guns are also very powerful, and the best thing is, he can equip himself with impact grenades, which are very important in ranked matches for creating rotation holes, and these days, countering Osa.

Excels in:

  • Projectile denial
  • Compromising enemy locations
  • Disrupting enemy rhythm

Best loadouts for Wamai:

8. Thunderbird

She’s fulfilling the support role that was originally intended for Doc really well. Each of her Kona stations can heal 30hp and can revive a downed ally if they get close to one. She can put each of the Kona stations on strong defender angles, making sure that the teammates holding that angle will be supported, or she can also deploy all 3 of them into one spot so that whoever needs healing can just go into that spot and receive it instead of always activating one of the stations even though the player doesn’t need a heal. Tricksy players also use one of her Kona stations to detect enemies from above wooden floors for a c4-under-the-floor strat.

Excels in:

  • Support through healing and reviving
  • Flanking
  • Speed
  • Firepower

Best loadouts for Thunderbird:

7. Melusi

Even with the nerf on her Banshees, making them non-bulletproof when activated, she remains to be one of the best Defenders when it comes to rhythm disruption and slowing down enemies. Yes, the defenders can shoot the Banshees when they open up, but when placed in an awkward angle, it’ll still be hard for them to shoot it, and in the process leaving themselves vulnerable to Defender fire. She also has impact grenades which are important for creating rotation holes or countering Osa, and if her teammates already have impact grenades, the Melusi player can opt for the Bulletproof Camera so that she’ll be able to anticipate if an enemy is about to get slowed down by a Banshee.

Excels in:

  • Compromising enemy locations
  • Slowing down enemies
  • Disrupting enemy rhythm

Best loadouts for Melusi:

6. Smoke

A favorite in the pro leagues. Despite being one of the original operators, Smoke is still one of the best out there, especially when it comes to denying area to the enemies. And in Siege, positioning plays a major role. It affects the whole team’s strategy, and even aim. To deny them area is a very powerful ability. Smoke has 3 Remote Gas Grenades which he complements with either a deployable shield, which he can use to create choke points in some areas, making the enemies more vulnerable to his gas grenades, or barbed wires which greatly slows down enemies.

Excels in:

  • Area denial
  • Crowd control
  • Rhythm disruption

5. Tachanka

Speaking of denying area to the enemy, Tachanka can more than rival Smoke. With his reworked special gadget which is now a grenade launcher called the Shumikha Launcher, he can deny an enemy push in an area for long periods of time, because each of the grenades that the Shumikha Launcher launches can cover a large area with fire, and he has 14 of those nasty things. And despite having his special gadget changed, he still hasn’t really lost his DP27. Only now, he can carry it with him all the time as his primary weapon and as one of the most destructive guns in Siege, he can use it to create murder holes or even rotation holes. The Lord truly has been reborn.

What makes Tachanka OP:

  • Area denial
  • Highly destructive gun
  • Heavy firepower

Best loadouts for Tachanka:

4. Maestro

With the nerf on Valkyrie’s Black Eyes, Maestro takes the spot as the strongest intel gatherer on the Defender side. While the Black Eyes and Mozie’s hacked drones are still better when it comes to surveillance, Maestro’s Evil Eyes are bulletproof and can shoot drones, attacker gadget, and the attackers themselves, effectively disrupting their rhythm and in many cases, downing them. The Evil Eyes are one of the best special gadgets when it comes to stopping a defuser plant attempt behind the cover of smoke. On top of that, Maestro can equip himself with one of the most powerful LMGs in the game which is the ALDA 5.56, or one of the best shotguns, the ACS12.

Excels in:

  • Intel gathering
  • Rhythm disruption
  • Defuser planting disruption

3. Kapkan

Kapkan’s EDDs don't just inflict heavy damage or fatalities. They’re also very effective at disrupting the enemies’ rhythm, slowing them down, and even compromising their locations. Making Kapkan one of the most feared Defenders in the game. Yes, you read that right, he can basically slow down enemies when they’re forced to check every entryway for EDDs. And in the process, they can leave themselves vulnerable to Defenders’ fire. Kapkan can also deploy 2 or 3 EDDs in unexpected but commonly used entryways in order to get at least one free kill.

Excels in:

  • Enemy rhythm disruption
  • Compromising enemy locations
  • Inflicting heavy damage

Best loadouts for Kapkan:

2. Castle

Castle possesses the ability to greatly fortify weak angles and areas with his bulletproof Armor Panels. Unless the attacker is carrying a breaching device or an explosive, the only way to destroy one of Castle’s Armor Panels is by hitting it with 9 melee attacks, greatly slowing down the attacker. Castle can use it not only for fortifying an area, but also for creating choke points in order to manipulate attacker movements and direct them to more vulnerable spots. And because the Armor Panels get destroyed with 9 melee attacks, the Castle player can use it to lay a trap by hitting it with 8 melee attacks and surprising the enemies outside of it with one more melee attack and then running out.

Excels in:

  • Loadout choices
  • Creating choke points
  • Preventing sniper fire
  • Preventing a rush and slowing down the enemies’ push

Best loadouts for Castle:

1. Azami

Speaking of fortifying weak angles, Azami has the best special gadget for that, and that is her Kiba Barriers. They are bulletproof so they’re really effective when it comes to blocking strong Attacker angles from the outside or repairing breached walls. She can also use her Kiba Barriers to create choke points and lead enemies to where she wants them to be. Having this ability to essentially reshape the map and have some control over enemy movements makes Azami one of the most powerful operators in the game. Especially since she even has impact grenades, and my favorite shotgun, the ACS12, in her arsenal.

Excels in:

  • Area/angle denial
  • Rhythm disruption
  • Reshaping the flow of the fight

Best loadouts for Azami:
