This one is definitely not a trick.

This tutorial is actually the same as my Parrot breeding tutorial, which you can check out here. Essentially, in Minecraft’s base game, breeding fish is currently impossible. However, some savvy gamers and programmers have created an add-on for this feature, too. Here’s how to use it.

  • ForgeLogical’s video, linked above, includes a download link for the add-on, but I’ll add it here, too: https://mcpedl.com/breedable-fish/
    • Once you’ve downloaded and implemented the add-on, you should be capable of breeding fish and Dolphins in Minecraft.
    • To breed fish, you’ll need 2 of the same kind of fish - and by “same kind” I mean “from the same type of Spawn Egg.” If you’re finding fish in the wild, it doesn’t matter if they’re different colors; as long as you could get both fish from the same Spawn Egg in Creative mode, they’ll be recognized as the same species.
      • Holding Kelp in your hand, you can use your interact key to feed both fish, causing floating hearts to appear and encouraging the two to mate. A few seconds later, you’ll have a miniature fish.
  • To breed Dolphins, you’ll need 2 Dolphins. Easy as pie.
    • Holding Uncooked Salmon in your hand, you can use your interact key to feed both Dolphins, causing floating hearts to appear and encouraging the two to mate. A few seconds later, you’ll have another Dolphin.
  • It’s easiest to breed animals within some kind of an enclosure - in this case, a small pool, pond, or aquarium would work.

And with that, you’ve got some baby fish! This makes filling aquariums or farming fish for food a lot simpler. We’ll see you around, and happy gaming!
