[Top 10] Minecraft Best Quest Modpacks That Are Amazing

Minecraft on its own is a wonderful, limitless game - but the players have proven, time and time again, that “limitless” is still too limited for their tastes. They expand their already infinite horizons with texture packs, shaders, customized skins, adventure maps, and original builds, and when that’s still not enough, the players take things into their own hands and write mods so vast and creative that they’re practically an entirely new game. Here are 10 of the best Minecraft mods that do just that, to keep you mining and crafting for another endless count of years.

10. Dimensional Doors

Mod Footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10AoJmr7exw

I’m starting off with stevenrs11's Dimensional Doors mod. This modpack is incredibly handy and clever, and would be a great foundational mod to include in any new game. It’s in the number 10 spot because it is a pretty old mod, and the 1.17 updates are still quite buggy, but if you’re willing to brave the glitches that come with programming development or to dial back your game version a bit, it’s definitely worth checking out.

The mod introduces many different new ideas to the game surrounding the concept of doors that allow you to hop through dimensions. Certain doors allow you to travel the multiple planes of reality, and others will create an entirely new plane all your own to build in. But be careful - if you’re unlucky, you might end up trapped in Limbo!

  • Introduces doors that allow for travel between rifts, pocket dimensions, Limbo, etc.
  • Some doors lead to dungeons full of treasure.
  • Introduces several new tools to command reality with.

9. Farming Valley

Mod Footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOdS5sr5fqk

For number 9, I’ve included a modpack that many players consider to be a good beginner modpack. If you’re new to large, game-altering mods, this might be a good place for you to start! Kehaan’s Farming Valley is inspired by farming simulator games like Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley.

Progress in this modpack is based on building up a farming village from scratch. In the beginning of the game, you have to spawn in a goddess to guide you towards your goal. Some items aren’t craftable and must be purchased instead. Your town is populated by NPCs that take your instruction to grow the village and prosper under your leadership.

  • Introduces 19 NPCs, including the mystical and powerful Harvest Goddess.
  • Introduces a large collection of crops to cultivate.
  • Introduces new tools for farming and caring for livestock.

8. Rails of War

Mod Footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpJBtcwxNzU

Perhaps I’m the only one that finds our number 8 entry so fascinating, but when I saw this mod, I knew I had to include it here. Currently, this mod is only usable in creative mode, but it surely could be used to build some incredible cities!

The Rails of War mod introduces realistic trains into Minecraft. Everyone’s fooled around with the minecart tracks before, but this mod takes that to another level. Thanks to Nathaniel_Iten, now you can build large rails and accurate trains that not only run, but can also be boarded! You can take a nap in the caboose, or build up your muscle on the handcar. I can’t wait to see how this mod continues to grow. No doubt that the more support and exposure it receives, the easier it will be for the creator to add new features.

  • Introduces many different types of realistically designed train cars.
  • Passenger cars are boardable while the train is running.
  • Rails can be CURVED. Maybe this part isn’t exciting to you, but it’s exciting to me!

7. Invasion

Mod Footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSQNMfNoNuI

Now, if you’re not new to the modpack scene, you might have heard of Invasion. You might have even played it for yourself! But considering how iconic and incredible this mod is, I figured it would be a shame not to include it, even if it’s not the first time several of you have read about it. I’ll save some of the higher numbers for lesser known mods, but in the meantime, let’s talk about darkosto’s “Invasion.”

Invasion is a post-apocalyptic survival mod that turns your Minecraft world into a vast, empty, devastated wasteland. Resources are rare and crafting tables are rarer. Tools required to overcome the harsh, unforgiving environment and the other survivors seeking all the same items are delivered via air drops. Your survival is dependent on your determination and skill. If you can’t decide what to play, and are trying to choose between Fallout and Minecraft, this mod is for you.

  • Completely transforms the terrain!
  • Introduces NPCs and original thematic mobs, like drones.
  • Disables the ability to craft a crafting table, making crafting tables even more scarce and valuable.

6. Delivery Inc

Mod Footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8bj3I51tEc

Delivery Inc is really interesting in that it’s unlike any other mod concept I’ve ever seen for Minecraft. It somewhat reminds me of one of the lesser-used mechanics within Slime Rancher, where you occasionally receive requests for certain farm products and supplies that you can fulfill for extra rewards. This mod takes that idea to its most extreme.

The Delivery Inc mod, by henkelmax, allows you to start a business fulfilling certain product and resource requests via mail. You start with a mailbox through which you can ship out your orders, but as the game progresses, you receive many new capabilities to fill orders faster.

  • Higher levels include a computer to receive orders via email.
  • Introduces drones that are used to carry large orders in barrels and boxes.
  • A refreshingly original idea for a mod!

5. The Lost Cities

Mod Footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThaHmpPqcx4

McJty’s modpack, The Lost Cities, introduces an entirely new biome to spawn into at the creation of a new survival game. You’ll wake up surrounded by an abandoned city, filled with mysterious, ancient structures that were left behind by an extinct group of people.

One of the most captivating things about Minecraft is getting to explore the generated world and discover these little remnants of long-gone civilizations - remnants like Jungle Temples, Ocean Monuments, and Strongholds. McJty has expanded on this idea, and with this mod, you’re given the opportunity to dive even deeper into these archaeological marvels and surround yourself entirely in this ghost of a bustling municipality.

  • The cities include subways, highways, and bridges, among other rundown common city structures, giving the environment an eerie uncanniness.
  • Large amounts of dungeons with spawners and loot generate within these cities.
  • Endless creativity and inspiration can be found in these urban ruins.

4. The Nuclear Wasteland

Mod Footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-Dt8PizCsw

Earlier on in this list, I mentioned a mod that was reminiscent of Fallout. Turns out, there are actually two mods that can give you that same atmosphere. Welcome to the Nuclear Wasteland, a modpack by ItsBrendo on Curseforge.

This mod adds the Nuclear Wasteland, an entirely new biome that can spawn in your overworld. The wasteland is irradiated and dangerous - the very air you travel through is slowly killing you. The monsters are yet more powerful, bolstered by their radiation-borne abilities, but perhaps it’s all worth it to explore the abandoned region and loot it for its rare, uncommon items and the thrilling cave system that exists just below the surface.

  • Introduces a new biome and a new status to monitor: radiation poisoning!
  • Introduces powerful mobs and new loot.
  • Introduces a new cave system.

3. Life in the Village

Mod Footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoDF3GueXss

Down to the top 3, we have another mod that is designed to enhance your interaction with villages. Life in the Village, by dreams01, is a mod that is close to vanilla Minecraft gameplay but adds a ton of fun new features to enhance the immersion of the world.

The NPC workers are yours to command. They’ll build for you, travel with you, and settle with you in uninhabited land. The villages are beautiful and diverse, with many different cultures and new decorative blocks that are used to create more detailed villages. There is a wide variety of new mobs to play alongside - including my favorite animal… the chameleon. You can even choose a class to progress in!

  • Introduces several new building options, including new decorative blocks and new functional blocks, such as windmills, bookshelves, and furniture.
  • Introduces an enormous selection of food crafting options.
  • Introduces new mobs, including deer, butterflies, and lizards!

2. Serene Seasons

Mod Footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knljaygWa_0

TheAdubbz and their team has designed what I would describe as a “staple mod.” What I mean by this is that Serene Seasons is a mod that would go well with any playthrough, any world, and any combination of mods. Introducing seasons is a surefire way to increase the variety of play and the immersive nature of the game.

This modpack simulates seasons by having the foliage change color over time. Some weather patterns will occur during specific times of the year, like snow in the winter, even in biomes where snow isn’t common in vanilla Minecraft. Crops can even be seasonal. This mod is less about adding new features and more about manipulating current ones to their fullest potential!

  • Introduces a more complex weather system that reflects real life seasons!
  • Leaves change depending on the time of year.
  • This mod is compatible with many other mods, including new biome mods, where the “leaves changing color” feature automatically applies to the new biome’s varieties of foliage.

1. Space Astronomy 2

Mod Footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyCP3Alo6Os

Finally, for number 1, I present to you MJRLegends’ “Space Astronomy 2.” This mod takes the number 1 spot by quite literally expanding Minecraft’s entire universe, compiling many of the latest and greatest science, tech, and space-themed mods into one neat little package for you to drop into your world and dive into.

This modpack includes an insurmountable number of new features to play around with. Computers, solar panels, sorcery, wands, 50+ new biomes, and much, much more. Checking out the mod list for this modpack reveals 175 different entries, cataloguing all the new features that have been wrapped up for you to explore. I’m of course not surprised by this; after all, how else could one possibly comprehend the vastness of the cosmos?

  • Introduces interplanetary travel and exploration.
  • That pretty much sums it up.
  • I don’t know what more you could possibly want.
  • You can literally go to space.
  • But if that’s still not enough for you...
  • ...you can also pose your armor stands.

I am so looking forward to giving all of these mods a try! I have a feeling my friends won’t see me again for a month - I’ll be too busy colonising space to escape the nuclear fallout of my home planet. Or maybe I’ll start small, and just build a nice farm town from which to watch the seasons change. Either way, I know these 10 modpacks are going to make Minecraft even more fun than it already was. We’ll see you around! Happy gaming!
