Genshin Impact Best Artifacts For Each Role

Artifact grinding may be tedious, but the Stats they give is precious.

In Genshin Impact, there are these special equipment called Artifacts. Each piece of Artifact gives random Stats and Sub stats. Artifacts are categorized into different kinds of Sets that can give useful boosts to your characters.

A single character can wear a maximum of 5 Artifacts at a time. You can give any kind of Artifacts to a certain character. However, specific Artifact Sets give a specific Set Bonus to the character depending on the number of Artifacts that belong to the same Set. Basically, a Set Bonus will activate every time the character is equipped with 2 or 4 Artifacts that belong to the same Set (example shown in the photo above).

Choosing and mixing the right Artifacts is an essential part of "building" your character. In fact, the endgame of Genshin Impact is mostly about Artifact Grinding. At first, it’s a bit confusing which Artifact Set/s you should use to build a character for a specific Role or playstyle. But hey! That’s what the article is for! We will list down the best Artifact Sets and builds you can use for each Role in Genshin Impact.

What are the Best Artifact Sets for Each Role?

We already discussed the Basic Character Roles in the other article. Specific Artifact Sets give Set Bonuses that are most useful for a certain Role. So, if you want to know which Artifact Set you should use for a character, you should first know the Suggested Role of the said character. If you already have an idea about the Roles in Genshin Impact, then here are the recommended Artifact Sets for each Role.

Note: Although the list shows the advisable Artifact Sets for each of the Basic Roles, it’s still important to know that “Artifact Building” should vary for each individual character - each character is special on its own and their mechanics are different from one another. Therefore, we advise that you should also learn and examine every detail of your characters (i.e. Stats, Talents, Constellations, Weapon used) to know which Set will really suit your preferred playstyle.

Main DPS

Main DPS Characters

4-Piece Berserker

2 - Piece Set Bonus: Crit Rate + 12%.

4 - Piece Set Bonus: When HP is below 70%, Crit Rate increases by an additional 24%.

This 4-Star Artifact Set is very useful for players that are in the lower levels. The 2-Piece Crit Rate Bonus is a huge boost for Main DPS characters. The 4-Piece Set Bonus is good for Melee characters because they are very vulnerable to damage - they can be below 70% HP easily.

This Set is also good for Hu Tao. Hu Tao needs to be below 50% HP most of the time when using her, thus the 4-Piece Set Bonus can be very beneficial for her.

4-Piece Martial Artist

2 - Piece Set Bonus: Increases Normal Attack and Charged Attack Damage by 15%.

4 - Piece Set Bonus: After Using the Elemental Skill, Increases Normal Attack and Charged Attack Damage by 25% by 8 seconds.

Like the Berserker Set, the Martial Artist Set is a handy 4-Star Artifact Set for the earlier parts of the game.

Main DPS characters rely on Normal Attacks and Charge Attacks to deal continuous damage. Therefore, the 2-Piece Set Bonus is very useful for these characters. Additionally, the 4-Piece Set Bonus is a huge boost for the characters’ damage output.

4-Piece Pale Flame

2 - Piece Set Bonus: Physical Damage + 25%.
4 - Piece Set Bonus: When an Elemental Skill hits an opponent, Attack is increased by 9% for 7 seconds. This effect stacks up to 2 times and can be triggered once every 0.3 seconds. Once 2 stacks are reached, the 2-set effect is increased by 100%

This Artifact Set is like the upgraded version of the Martial Artist Set. The difference is this set is only advisable for Melee characters because they are the ones who deal Physical Damage on their Normal and Charge Attacks (Bow-users imbue Elements in their Charge Attacks and Catalyst users deal Elemental Damage on their Normal Attacks).

Pale Flame is suitable for Main DPS characters that scale off their Physical Damage as the 2-Piece Set Bonus gives an increase for the said Stat. The 4-Piece Bonus is effective for characters who have Elemental Skill with short cooldowns.

Eula is an example of a character that can greatly benefit from this set. You can subsequently use Eula’s Normal Attacks and Elemental Skill to maximize the effects of the 4-Piece Set Bonus. . Also, Eula’s damage output scales with her Physical Damage, so the 2-Piece Set Bonus is also very useful for her.

4-Piece Wanderer’s Troupe

2 - Piece Set Bonus: Increases Elemental Mastery by 80.

4 - Piece Set Bonus: Increases Charge Attack Damage by 35% if the character uses a Catalyst or a Bow.

Now, this is the counterpart of the Pale Flame Set - the Wanderer’s Troupe is the suggested Artifact Set Ranged characters.

The 4-Piece Set Bonus gives a major buff for Catalyst and Bow Users that use Charge Attack as their main damaging ability.  Ganyu is one example. As we all know, Ganyu depends on her explosive Charge Attack to deal powerful damage, the 4-Piece Set Bonus will further enhance her damage potential.

What’s also great in this Set is it increases the Elemental Mastery of the user. The Charge Attacks of Ranged characters have Elements infused on them, so the 2-Piece Set Bonus can boost the effects of the Elemental Reactions triggered by their Charge Attacks.

2-Piece Noblesse Oblige + 2-Piece of Any Artifact that fits Character

2 - Piece Set Bonus: Elemental Burst Damage + 20%
*Set Bonus of the Artifact you chose*

Noblesse Oblige is very useful even if it is only worn as a 2-Piece Set. The 2-Piece Set Bonus gives a substantial increase to the Elemental Burst of the character using it. The effect is highly recommended for a Burst - Type Main DPS. Examples of this are Tartaglia and Ningguang that can give large amounts of damage using their Bursts. With the supplement of the 2-Piece Artifact, their Elemental Burst will be more perilous.

To fill in the remaining Artifact slots, you can choose any other Artifact Set to activate another 2-Piece Set Bonus. Your chosen Artifact Set should have a 2-Piece Set Bonus that suits the kit of the character. . Take Ningguang for example, if you will be using 2-Piece Noblesse Oblige, you could add another 2-Piece Archaic Petra to activate its 2-Piece Set Bonus that gives Geo Damage Increase. With this build, Ningguang will have the 2-Piece Set Bonuses of both Noblesse Oblige and Archaic Petra Set (Elemental Burst Damage + 20% and Geo Damage Bonus +15%).

2-Piece Gladiator’s Finale + 2-Piece of Any Artifact that fits Character

2 - Piece Set Bonus: Attack + 18%.
*Set Bonus of the Artifact you chose*

You can pair it with 2-Piece of any Artifact Set of your liking. If you want to, you can go further and activate its 4-Piece Set Bonus by adding the other pieces of the Gladiator’s Finale Artifact Set. The 4-Piece Set Bonus increases the Normal Attack Damage of the character by 35% if the said character is a Sword, Claymore or Polearm wielder. But generally, players combine the 2-Piece Gladiator’s Finale Set with another 2-Piece of an Artifact Set that boosts the Elemental Damage of the character.

You can use this build for Diluc. Give him 2-Piece Gladiator’s Finale for the overall Attack Bonus, and add a 2-Piece Crimson Witch of Flame for the Pyro Damage Boost.

Sub - DPS

Sub-DPS Characters

4-Piece Gambler

2 - Piece Set Bonus: Increases Elemental Skill Damage by 20%.
4 - Piece Set Bonus: Defeating an enemy has a 100% chance to remove Elemental Skill Cooldown. Can only occur once every 15 seconds.

The Gambler Set is a very good Artifact Set for your Sub - DPS characters if you’re still in the early AR Levels. The 2-Piece and 4-Piece Set Bonuses favor the Sub - DPS characters that depend mostly on their Elemental Skills to deal damage.

You can try and use this for the Sub-DPS build of Sucrose. With her 1st Constellation activated, she will have 2 charges for her Elemental Skill. If you add the 4-Piece Set Bonus of the Gambler Set, you can now use the Elemental Skill at 3 times max successively.

2-Piece Wanderer’s Troupe + 2-Piece of Any Artifact that fits Character

2 - Piece Set Bonus: Increases Elemental Mastery by 80.
*Set Bonus of the Artifact you chose*

The 2-Piece Set Bonus of Wanderer’s Troupe is not only effective for Main DPS characters - but it is also useful for Sub-DPS characters.

Sub-DPS characters rely on the usage of Elemental Damage and Elemental Reactions. So, Elemental Mastery is a suitable stat to upgrade to maximize the potential of your characters. The Elemental Mastery will fortify the Elemental Reactions triggered by your character, thus it will give an additional source of damage for your party.

You can add another 2-Piece of an Artifact Set that will benefit the corresponding Element of the character.

2-Piece Noblesse Oblige + 2-Piece of Any Artifact that fits Character

2 - Piece Set Bonus: Elemental Burst Damage + 20%.
*Set Bonus of the Artifact you chose*

2-Piece Noblesse Oblige is exceptionally effective for Sub-DPS characters that can deal tons of damage with their default Elemental Burst. If the effect of the 2-Piece Set Bonus is utilized, you can literally one-shot enemies using the boosted Elemental Burst of your character.

Just like the 2-Piece Wanderer’s Troupe Set, you can also add another 2-Piece of any Artifact Set. Your choice should depend on your playstyle. If you want to build your character as a Semi-Support, you can add the other pieces of Noblesse Oblige Sets to activate its 4-Piece Set Bonus (which we will talk about later on). If you want to go full Sub-DPS, you should add a 2-Piece that will increase the overall damage output of your character. You can be creative with your choices.

Support (Utility)

Utility Characters

4-Piece Instructor

2 - Piece Set Bonus: Increases Elemental Mastery by 80.
4 - Piece Set Bonus: After using Elemental Skill, increases all party members’ Elemental Mastery by 120 for 8 seconds.

The useful part of this Artifact Set is the 4-Piece Set Bonus.  Once the character uses an Elemental Skill, it will trigger a huge buff for the party. The 120 Elemental Mastery increase is very useful to Elemental Reaction-Type Team Compositions.

This Artifact Set is very effective on Sucrose. Sucrose can boost the Elemental Mastery of her allies based on her Elemental Mastery, so the 2-Piece Set Bonus greatly aids the ability.

4-Piece Noblesse Oblige

2 - Piece Set Bonus: Elemental Burst Damage + 20%.
4 - Piece Set Bonus: Using an Elemental Burst increases all party members' Attack by 20% for 12 seconds. This effect cannot stack.

As we said in the earlier parts of the list, the Noblesse Oblige Set is a suggested Artifact Set for characters built as Supports. The massive 20% Attack increase is a massive boost to the party’s overall damage potential. It is very useful to any Damage-type Team Compositions.

This Artifact Set is multifunctional, it can both improve the damage output and supporting potential of the character. Because of this, Noblesse Oblige is recognized as the universal Artifact Set.

4-Piece Tenacity of the Millelith

2 - Piece Set Bonus: HP +20%.
4 - Piece Set Bonus: When an Elemental Skill hits an opponent, the Attack of all nearby party members is increased by 20% and their Shield Strength is increased by 30% for 3 seconds. This effect can be triggered once every 0.5 seconds. This effect can still be triggered even when the character who is using this artifact set is not on the field.

Now, this one is a very unique Artifact Set, and I believe that there is only one character that can maximize the effects of this Set, and it is Zhongli. Zhongli, on his own, is an OP Support in the current patch. Zhongli’s abilities scale off his max HP, so it is indisputable that the 2-Piece Set Bonus is great for him. When you add the effect of the 4-Piece Set Bonus, the Artifact Set will bring out the true god in him.

However, you can still use this Artifact Set for other Supports like Diona. Or if you want to build Zhongli as a Sub-DPS but you still want the effects of the 4-Piece Set Bonus, you can give the Artifact Set to a separate Support character in your Party. But we still suggest using it for Zhongli as he is the best character that will most benefit from the effects of the Artifact Set.

Support (Healer)

Healer Characters

4-Piece Maiden’s Beloved

2 - Piece Set Bonus: Character Healing Effectiveness + 15%.
4 - Piece Set Bonus: Using an Elemental Skill or Burst increases healing received by all party members by 20% for 10s.

This is an obvious and reasonable choice. The 2-Piece Set Bonus gives a valuable increase in the Healing Effectiveness of your Healer. Added the effect of the 4-Piece Set Bonus - Maiden’s Beloved is the best Artifact Set if you want to increase the Healing Performance of your character.

And that’s the end of our list. We hope that the article helps you in building the right Artifacts for your characters. If you have suggestions or you need clarifications, please leave them in the comments below, we will be glad to know your insights.
