Spirit, also known as Rin Yamaoka is one of the killers who was introduced in chapter 9, the shattered bloodline. Overall, she was once to be one of the most powerful killers in the game; however, this all changed during a nerf that happened in the year 2021, where now you are able to hear where the spirit is phasing from, as previously the phasing was random, and it was more of a heart-attack for the players once she appeared behind you or by coming for a grab on the generator. Nevertheless, lets look at her best builds.

5. The Omega Lounge Spirit Build

Dead by Daylight gameplay by not Otzdarva

The Omega Lounge Spirit Build is a fun build to play with, especially with toxic survivors. This means that with an increased lounged attack, powered by Coup de Grâce, you can hit survivors with a greater chance if they have exhaustion perks such as dead hard and sprint burst, which is quite impressive outpowering the survivor's exhaustion perks. Nevertheless, apart from this ability, if the game was to go wrong and most of the survivors are still alive and incredibly toxic, Blood warden can be activated where exit gates are blocked for a maximum time of 60 seconds, enabling the killer to down if not all, most survivors effortlessly with the use of the perks. With Stridor, the game should be much easier as the breathing of the survivors would be much more significant, increasing the chances of a successful match.

What The Omega Lounge Spirit Build Excels In:

  • The ability of an improved lounge and cool-down of missed attacks makes it much easier to hit the survivors and a faster method of hitting multiple survivors at the same time.
  • Both perks Coupe de Grâce and unrelenting work with the powerful end-game perk, blood warden, for which with these perks, you can down and hit survivors at a faster pace with an increased chance of hooked survivors just before blood warden ends.

Build details & Perks:

  • Coup de Grâce: Each time a Generator is completed, Coup de Grâce grows in power and gains 1 Token. Consume 1 Token to increase the distance of your next Lunge Attack by 70/75/80 %.
  • Stridor: You are acutely sensitive to the breathing of your prey. Increases the volume of Survivors' Grunts of Pain by 25/50/50 %. Increases the volume of Survivors' regular breathing by 0/0/25 %.
  • Blood Warden: As soon as one Exit Gate is opened, Blood Warden activates. The Auras of Survivors standing within the Exit-Gate area are revealed to you. Once per Trial, hooking a Survivor while Blood Warden is active calls upon The Entity to block the exits for all Survivors for 30/40/60 seconds.
  • Unrelenting: You recuperate faster from missed attacks made with your primary weapon. Reduces the Cool-down of missed Basic Attacks by 20/25/30 %.

4. Spirit Nurse and Sloppy Combo Build

Dead by Daylight gameplay by Pawse Games

The Spirit Nurse and Sloppy Combo is an excellent build for beginner players, especially when the perks match the killer making it easier to use. For instance, with Sloppy Butcher, finding survivors with its bigger blood pools and scratch marks will be much easier, making it less exhausting to find survivors. Nevertheless, powerful perks such as Barbecue and Chilli and Nurses calling are in use, making it one of the most potent combos where you can locate the survivors in different situations. Lastly, with corrupt intervention, you get a headstart at the beginning of the game, and you can get some hooks in before any of the generators are completed.

What The Spirit Nurse and Sloppy Combo Build Excel In:

  • With Sloppy Butcher, survivors have to heal for much longer, meaning it is much easier to find survivors are recovering, especially with nurses calling, which is very powerful.
  • With Barbecue and Chilli, one of the most potent perks, you can locate the survivors and pinpoint the approximate area in which nurses calling can help you if the survivors are injured, making those two perks a good combo.

Build details & Perks:

  • Sloppy Butcher: Wounds inflicted by Basic Attacks cause Survivors to suffer from haemorrhages and Mangled. Status Effect: Increases the Bleeding frequency by 50/75/100 %. Increases the rate at which incomplete Healing loses progression by 15/20/25 %.

3. Pain Resonance Spirit Build

Dead by Daylight gameplay by CJ Bear

The Pain Resonance Spirit Build is a build only to be used with a great strategy. One of the perks, Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance, allows for one of the generators with most progress to be regressed, and nevertheless, with this build, you have a choice whether you want to revert it with pop goes the weasel or if you wish to regress another generator with 2nd most progress. Nevertheless, it is a great build recommended for games with toxic gen rushing survivors and a choice to regrerevertiple generators simultaneously. With these perks, generators will be the survivor's biggest problem. You can finally top it off with barbecue and chilli, where you can find survivors and hook them effortlessly.

What The Pain Resonance Spirit Build Excels In:

  • With Barbecue and Chilli and Pop Goes the Weasel, you can locate the survivors and pop the generators effectively where the generator is in its biggest progression state.
  • With Scourge Hook, you can regress at its maximum capacity with the use of pop goes the weasel, where you can target the most progressed generator when you hear the explosion and spark from Scourge hook, and at the same time, use pop goes the weasel to regress it even more.

Build details & Perks:

  • Corrupt Intervention: At the start of the Trial, the 3 Generators located farthest from you are blocked by The Entity for 80/100/120 seconds.
  • Pop Goes the Weasel: After hooking a Survivor, Pop Goes the Weasel activates for the next 35/40/45 seconds: The next Generator you damage instantly loses -20 % of its current Progression. Regular Generator Regression applies afterwards, and Pop Goes the Weasel deactivates.
  • Barbecue and Chilli: After hooking a Survivor, all Survivors who are at least 60/50/40 metres away from that Hook have their Aura revealed to you for 4 seconds.
  • Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance: At the start of the Trial, four random Hooks are changed into Scourge Hooks: The Auras of Scourge Hooks are revealed to you in white. Each time a Survivor is hooked on a Scourge Hook, the following effects apply, where the Generator with the most Progression sparks, instantly losing 9/12/15 % of its Progression and starting to regress.

2. Top Level Surveillance Spirit Build

Dead by Daylight gameplay by D3AD Plays

Top Level Surveillance Spirit Build deserves a good spot in this list, perhaps because it can slow down the game's progress and simultaneously hunt down the survivors effectively using Hex: Undying and Stridor. One of the disadvantages, however, making this in the number 2 spot rather than the number 1 is the fact the build consists of two hex totems which can be rid of during the game by the survivors making this build only 50% effective with the perks stridor and surveillance left. Nonetheless, it is an excellent build whether it's for the long term or the short term of the game, making the sacrifices as fast as possible whilst in a short-term gap and making the game run as long as possible with the regression strength of the generators.

What The Top Level Surveillance Spirit Build Excels In:

  • The surveillance and notifications of the perks allow you to see the progress of generators, the auras of survivors and most importantly, more excellent breathing with the bonus Stridor, making it one of the most potent perks for Spirit.
  • Hex: Ruin and Hex: endless substitute possibility: if hex Ruin is cleansed, it can be transferred to hex undying, making this hex twice as powerful and lasting twice as long.

Build details & Perks:

  • Surveillance: The Auras of regressing Generators are highlighted in white. If the Regression progress is interrupted on a Generator, its Aura will be highlighted in yellow for 8/12/16 seconds. Surveillance increases the audible range of Survivors' Generator-repairing noises by 8 metres.
  • Stridor: You are acutely sensitive to the breathing of your prey. Increases the volume of Survivors' Grunts of Pain by 25/50/50 %. Increases the volume of Survivors' regular breathing by 0/0/25 %.
  • Hex: Ruin: Whenever a Survivor is not repairing a Generator, it will immediately and automatically regress its Repair progress at 50/75/100 % of the normal Regression speed. Once any Survivor is killed by any means, Hex: Ruin deactivates and reverts its Hex Totem into a Dull Totem.
  • Hex: Undying: The Auras of Survivors within 2/3/4 metres of any Dull Totem are revealed to you. When another Perk's Hex Totem is cleansed or blessed, its Hex is transferred to the Undying Totem, including any accumulated Tokens, disabling Hex: Undying instead.

1. Spirit Hearing your Breath Build

Dead by Daylight gameplay by D3AD Plays

This build takes the number 1 spot for many reasons. First of all, the game starts with Hex: Ruin, where survivors typically check whether Ruin is in place by tapping the generator and if it is, the hunting begins for the survivors, and they only have a 50% chance of finding the ruin as the wrong hex could take them to Haunted Ground making every survivor exposed which is extremely dangerous, especially against a good Spirit killer. Nevertheless, most experienced survivors would leave the hexes or only take them out if all the survivors are injured, making the game more playable and advantageous to the killer. Nonetheless, the killer is almost omnipotent with perks such as Barbecue, Chilli and Stridor. Various game plays can be used with those powerful perks allowing you to hear and see the survivors most of the time in a slow-paced environment. Overall making this build the best build in this game for the Spirit.

What The Spirit Hearing your Breath Build Excels In:

  • With the perk stridor, you can hear the survivors much more often, and it is very effective, especially against survivors' perks such as Iron Will, which cause the survivors to minimise their sound to 100%.
  • Hex: Haunted Ground is in place with Hex Ruin and the survivors; if they find a hex totem have a 50% chance to get the hex right, and if not, it is an immediately exposed status which is very advantageous to the killer, especially where there is a possibility of getting a 4k very fast.

Build details & Perks:

  • Stridor: You are acutely sensitive to the breathing of your prey. Increases the volume of Survivors' Grunts of Pain by 25/50/50 %. Increases the volume of Survivors' regular breathing by 0/0/25 %.
  • Barbecue and Chilli: After hooking a Survivor, all Survivors who are at least 60/50/40 metres away from that Hook have their Aura revealed to you for 4 seconds.
  • Hex: Haunted Ground: Two trapped Hex Totems will spawn in the Trial Grounds. When either Hex Totem is cleansed or blessed, all Survivors suffer from the Exposed Status Effect for 40/50/60 seconds. The second Hex Totem will immediately turn into a Dull Totem.
