[Top 15] FIFA 20 Best German Players

FIFA 20 Top German Players
With traditional German efficiency, let's get into the article.

Here we have my most recommended league for meta players that aren't unbearably overused.

The Germans have been European champions three times and World Cup champions four times over the history of football; most recently in 2014 when they conquered the world after a decade-long rebuilding process. Unsurprisingly, Germany has produced some of the world's best players in their time - including the present-day squad. In FIFA terms, you can put together a formidable eleven from this country alone. These are the best German players you should try out in FIFA 20.

15. Julian Draxler (PSG)

The one and only five-star weak footer here. Whoops, spoiler.

Draxler has been in and out of the national team over the years, but he is still a fantastic footballer who has played in some of the biggest leagues over his career while still only being 26. He’s a fine choice in this season’s Storyline Objectives, too.

Draxler’s Stat Highlights:

  • 86 Shot Power, 81 Long Shots, 82 Vision.
  • 84 Short Passing, 80 Agility, 81 Reactions.
  • 88 Ball Control, 87 Dribbling, 83 Composure.

What Makes Draxler Amazing:

  • Four-star skills - but even better - five-star weak foot.
  • He’s a giant for the CAM role at 6’2”.
  • That FREE 92-rated Storyline card I mentioned earlier looks very tasty.

14. Niklas Sule (Bayern Munich)

As a center-back in my youth, game recognizes game. My game was a slightly lower level, though…

Sule is one of many young defenders that are showing us an exciting future full of world-class center-backs. When Bayern Munich comes calling when you’re in your early 20s you're doing something right! He is a huge player who is full of potential and has a lot to offer us FIFA players.

Sule's Stat Highlights:

  • 87 Sprint Speed, 81 Interceptions, 81 Reactions.
  • 86 Heading Accuracy, 85 Defensive Awareness, 89 Stand Tackle.
  • 87 Slide Tackle, 94 Strength, 83 Aggression.

What Makes Sule Amazing:

  • He is an absolute unit, standing 6’5”. No more dreadful headers conceded.
  • If you have a Shadow going spare he is one of those overpowered golds that are still usable.
  • His strength, height, and build make him an impassable mountain.

13. Mario Gotze (Borussia Dortmund)

The first of a few personal favorites that have made the list. Deservedly, of course. No bias here!

Not many players can lay claim to a World Cup-winning goal. Gotze's extra-time strike in 2014 is up there as one of the most dramatic in history, and while his powers have waned in the years since, he's still a top-class option on FIFA. I hope you reached his Storyline card in Season 6 - because from experience it's awesome!

Gotze's Stat Highlights:

  • 84 Positioning, 87 Vision, 88 Short Passing.
  • 83 Agility, 85 Balance, 86 Reactions.
  • 90 Ball Control, 85 Dribbling, 87 Composure.

What Makes Gotze Amazing:

  • For me, his 90 Storyline card always seems to pop up with a goal.
  • Perfect CAM work rates of high/medium, plus four-star four-star.
  • The Flair and Finesse Shot traits are ideal to pop long-range shots into the top corner.

12. Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)

Hint: Put a Shadow on your CBs. Don't tell anyone, it's a secret.

The Dortmund favorite returned to the yellow and black this season after three years at Bayern. Hummels has slotted back into Dortmund's defense like he'd never been gone and has only gone and gotten himself into FIFA's Ultimate Team Of The Season.

Hummels' Stat Highlights:

  • 85 Strength, 85 Long Passing, 87 Reactions.
  • 81 Ball Control, 89 Composure, 89 Interceptions.
  • 87 Heading Accuracy, 90 Defensive Awareness, 89 Stand Tackle.

What Makes Hummels Amazing:

  • He’s a tank of a defender, especially with a Shadow (of course).
  • Ignore his lack of speed, you can get his 96 TOTSSF with an extra 25 Pace points for less than 80k.
  • The Power Header trait is exceptionally handy. The Outside Foot Shot trait… less so, but it’s still nice to have.

11. Leroy Sane (Manchester City)

Premier League teams can have top-class Germans too, you know.

We'll step away from the Bayern/Dortmund duopoly for a few entries but don't panic! They will both be back. Leroy Sane is still one of the most exciting German attackers playing today, despite a struggle to become a regular starter for both club and country. He also has that blistering pace that is essential in FIFA 20.

Sane's Stat Highlights:

  • 93 Acceleration, 96 Sprint Speed, 86 Agility.
  • 84 Positioning, 87 Shot Power, 82 Vision.
  • 85 Ball Control, 88 Dribbling, 81 Reactions.

What Makes Sane Amazing:

  • Speeeeeeeed. He has it.
  • 6’0” is a good height for a winger with that pace; plus four-star skills.
  • The Flair and Power Free-Kick traits are nice to have in the locker.

10. Julian Brandt (Borussia Dortmund)

Now we return to your regularly scheduled DortMunich ranking list.

Guess what? Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have lots of really good German players. Julian Brandt is yet another product of the phenomenally successful youth movement going on over a generation. He's not one of the common choices on FIFA, but he’s still meta enough to be fun.

Brandt's Stat Highlights:

  • 86 Sprint Speed, 81 Shot Power, 80 Long Shots.
  • 84 Vision, 86 Short Passing, 83 Reactions.
  • 86 Ball Control, 86 Dribbling, 82 Composure.

What Makes Brandt Amazing:

  • He’s another big boy; a 6’1” CAM with decent dribbling causes anyone problems.
  • With four-star/four-star backing up that decent dribbling, and the Outside Foot Shot and Flair traits to boot.
  • A fantastically well-rounded (and relatively cheap) 90-rated TOTSSF.

9. Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Barcelona)

A FIFA all-star. It's very difficult to make a best-of list that doesn't include him.

Potentially the best goalkeeper in the game, though from my experience there is one (also German) man that pushes ter Stegen into second. Still, having Barcelona's number one protecting your goal will save you (pun intended) from a lot of defeats.

Ter Stegen's Stat Highlights:

  • 88 Diving, 85 Handling.
  • 88 Kicking, 90 Reflexes.
  • 43 Speed, 88 Positioning.

What Makes ter Stegen Amazing:

  • He’s got that La Liga/Bundesliga hybrid potential for something different.
  • The positions he takes up and his Comes for Crosses and Rushes out of Goal traits negate that sub-50 Speed.
  • He is a truly special GK in a game full of samey keepers.

8. Serge Gnabry (Bayern Munich)

Arsenal fans still rejoice at the memory of his Tottenham hattrick.

What a career Gnabry is having after swapping the Premier League for the Bundesliga. Playing for the champions-elect helps, but as a part of the Bayern side that dominates this list Gnabry has certainly helped his team's cause: enough to earn himself a FIFA 20 TOTSSF place.

Gnabry's Stat Highlights:

  • 92 Acceleration, 89 Sprint Speed, 86 Shot Power.
  • 82 Positioning, 86 Agility, 88 Balance.
  • 82 Reactions, 83 Ball Control, 87 Dribbling.

What Makes Gnabry Amazing:

  • Another four-star/four-star, and another man with the Flair trait.
  • He has a few upgrades that are well worth picking up if you rock a Bundesliga team.
  • A Maestro brings the quality up: 91 Agility, 96 Shot Power, for example.

7. Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich)

He'll go down as one of the best ever eventually while being criminally underrated. Like Desperate Housewives.

Gnabry's vastly experienced teammate has seen and done it all in the game of football - and the game of FIFA. Muller is one of the most useful midfielders in all of FIFA 20, never mind amongst his compatriots. Guess what? He made the TOTSSF, too.

Muller's Stat Highlights:

  • 92 Positioning, 87 Finishing, 80 Long Shots.
  • 85 Vision, 81 Short Passing, 86 Stamina.
  • 91 Reactions, 82 Ball Control, 84 Composure.

What Makes Muller Amazing:

  • A consistent, balanced performer: four-star weak foot, 6’1”.
  • The Solid Player trait. I told you he was consistent!
  • His 95 is a dream outside CM.

6. Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich)

Every team needs their utility man to do the dirty work and make it look good. Bayern happens to have one of the best.

One more Bayern midfield player with a very good-looking Ultimate TOTSSF card. I was actually lucky enough to pick up 96 Kimmich in my Squad Battles rewards, and he is most certainly worth the ~200k coins you'll have to spend if you don’t get the pack luck.

Kimmich's Stat Highlights:

  • 94 Stamina, 84 Vision, 87 Short Passing.
  • 91 Crossing, 84 Agility, 84 Balance.
  • 87 Reactions, 85 Ball Control, 85 Composure.

What Makes Kimmich Amazing:

  • His 96 CDM is awesome. He’s instantly improved my defense.
  • A lovely four-star weak foot to keep the calm in the midfield.
  • You 100% want to pick up his CB or CDM upgrades rather than his gold RB. They’re all brilliant.

5. Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)

He's the most likable player in the Bundesliga's most likable team. He's Phoebe Buffay.

I've written about how good the Borussia Dortmund captain is on FIFA before, and I'm going to do it again! Reus has a crazy domestic record for a midfielder of a goal every other game for Dortmund, and in FIFA he has been a great option all year.

Reus' Stat Highlights:

  • 85 Acceleration, 85 Sprint Speed, 89 Positioning.
  • 87 Finishing, 88 Shot Power, 87 Reactions.
  • 87 Reactions, 88 Ball Control, 87 Dribbling.

What Makes Reus Amazing:

  • I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. Those stats above aren’t even all of his 85+ attributes. AND he has a TOTSSF, because of course he does.
  • Because he’s so balanced you can play him from CM to ST.
  • Four-star/four-star? Check. Outside Foot Shot? Check. Finesse Shot? Check.

4. Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich)

Possibly the most GIFable player in recent memory, for good and bad.

The best keeper I have used in FIFA 20. Neuer gives you a sense of security even when you’re being ripped apart and your opponent’s 99 Messi is bearing down on goal. I should note that I only have his base Gold, too.

Neuer's Stat Highlights:

  • 87 Diving, 87 Handling.
  • 91 Kicking, 87 Reflexes.
  • 56 Speed, 85 Positioning.

What Makes Neuer Amazing:

  • That Speed is essential to draw attackers in before charging out and intercepting a shot.
  • With a Basic chem style on 10 chemistry, you don’t need a TOTS goalkeeper.
  • The four-star weak foot and 6’4” are super helpful.

3. Nico Schulz (Borussia Dortmund)

Dortmund collected yet another top player last summer when they picked up this guy.

Now that I’ve upgraded to Hakimi’s TOTSSF, Schulz is the last sub-88 I have in my squad. He’ll probably be swapped out as I progress through Season 7, but he’s done an admirable job against the best attackers in FUT Champs and Rivals. A cheap option who still plays a part in a high-level defense.

Schulz' Stat Highlights:

  • 89 Acceleration, 90 Sprint Speed, 84 Crossing.
  • 81 Reactions, 83 Dribbling, 79 Composure.
  • 79 Stamina, 77 Stand Tackle, 78 Slide Tackle.

What Makes Schulz Amazing:

  • Despite being the first player here to have highlight stats under 80, he plays like any high-rated defender I’ve used.
  • If you’re not satisfied with his attributes, his Winter Refresh card is one of the best Bundesliga left-backs in the game.
  • High/medium work rates make him ideal for five-backs.

2. Kai Havertz (Bayer Leverkusen)

The best Twitter account in German football has mad love for Havertz, and now so do I.

You’ve probably already been made aware of how good Havertz is in this game, but I think I’ll go ahead and jog your memory anyway, just in case. He’s been rewarded for a stellar season with a Bundesliga TOTSSF spot alongside clubmate Brandt, but his cards are fantastic from top to bottom.

Havertz' Stat Highlights:

  • 89 Sprint Speed, 83 Positioning, 81 Finishing.
  • 82 Vision, 85 Short Passing, 82 Reactions.
  • 87 Ball Control, 84 Dribbling, 84 Composure.

What Makes Havertz Amazing:

  • The market has totally crashed on cards like his. His 90 FUT Birthday: 90k. His 94 TOTSSF? 220k.
  • 6’2” and four-star/four-star, so tick those off your list.
  • Guess what traits he has? Outside Foot Shot and Finesse Shot. Bundesliga teams will rattle in the screamers with these players.

1. Timo Werner (RB Leipzig)

Guess why he's number one? It rhymes with ‘face’. And ‘trace’. And ‘pace’. Wait…

What a monster this card is. I still come up against Werner’s 86 Gold card on a regular basis, and he bullies my higher-rated CBs. His eighth upgrade in FIFA 20 (TOTSSF, because duh) is a 97-rated terror that I pray I never see in Champs again.

Werner's Stat Highlights:

  • 93 Acceleration, 92 Sprint Speed, 88 Positioning.
  • 89 Finishing, 85 Dribbling, 85 Stamina.
  • 82 Agility, 88 Reactions, 86 Ball Control.

What Makes Werner Amazing:

  • It’s rare you find a striker with his pace AND finishing ability.
  • He’s a legitimate menace that makes fantastic runs in behind.
  • Four-star weak foot! Hooray! He can finish impossible chances from any angle.
