[Top 15] FIFA 20 Best Free Agents Who Are Amazing

FIFA 20 Best Free Agents
Who says nothing in life comes free?

Cheap, cheerful, and a smart way to start building a club.

Are you starting up FIFA 20 Career Mode for a fresh new challenge, wanting something different from the usual cash-splashing and walking through season after season? Well, what we have here is a handy guide to find yourself some shrewd player acquisitions for precisely zero of your pennies (wages not included).

Bear in mind that no player rated 70+ is available on a free unless you get very lucky. I started seven Career Modes to try out all my options, and these are the 15 players who appear regularly enough that you should be able to pick them up. I recommend all of them for a lower league side looking to build some profit in your first season.

15. Sylvain Gbohouo (Ivory Coast, GK) 69

This big man is not to be messed with, look at that game face.

A solid option for a keeping upgrade. Gbohouo has all the attributes you want from a dependable GK, and you can add him to your squad while barely taking a hit on wages.

  • 71 Positioning is the standout GK stat.
  • Diving (69), Handling (67), Kicking (67), and Reflexes (66) brilliantly rounded.
  • He also has 80 Strength and 55 Shot Power if you fancy throwing him up front!

Why Gbohouo is amazing:

  • 31 years old leaves him plenty of years for his position.
  • 6’3” is the perfect height for a GK.
  • He's the best GK that you're guaranteed to find in Career Mode.

14. Mamadou Bagayoko (Ivory Coast, RB/RWB) 67

Bagayoko's top attributes defy his 65 rating.

On the right side of the defense, we have another Ivorian. Bagayoko is the top RB choice from the Free Agent pool.

  • Pace! This guy has it. 78 Sprint Speed with 73 Acceleration so he’ll steam past anyone on his level of rating.
  • 74 in Agility and Balance are his next best attributes. He’s got the foundation to be a solid option for your RB slot.
  • Good Stamina to bomb up and down all day - even shifted to RWB.

Why Bagayoko is amazing:

  • He's easily a first choice RB for lower league clubs.
  • With his pace and defensive ability he's even a decent backup for top teams.
  • 3-Star 3-Star, a worthy addition to have.

13. Wonlo Coulibaly (Ivory Coast, LB) 69

Filling out a fine Ivorian triangle to protect your goal.

Filling out the Ivory Coast defensive trinity is Wonlo Coulibaly. Rather than the standout pace of Bagayoko, Coulibaly has remarkably well-rounded stats to do whatever job you need him to.

  • Stand and Slide Tackle are both 71.
  • Aside from Strength (69) all Physical and Pace attributes are over 70.
  • 76 Stamina - a potential ever-present.

Why Coulibaly is amazing:

  • Medium/Medium work rates with that Stamina - he'll rack up games.
  • 3-Star weak foot (this is a bigger deal in Career than Ultimate Team, obviously).
  • Young enough at 28 to stay the course to the top.

12. Roman Bezjak (Slovenia, ST/LM/RM) 69

Mr. Workrate right here - he makes it count in every position.

The first Jack of many trades available for free, Bezjak can be a focal point to build a promotion-seeking team around. He has attributes in all the right places...

  • 80 Agility, 75 Balance.
  • 77 Jumping.
  • 73 Acceleration and Sprint Speed.

Why Bezjak is amazing:

  • He's a combo of LM, RM, and ST!
  • 3-Star 3-Star and 5'10" is a great blend of all three positions.
  • Lovely well-rounded Shooting to get you the goals.

11. Sifiso Hlanti (South Africa, LB/LM/CB) 69

The African theme continues, as their leagues aren't present in CM.

There are a number of good free options from South Africa in FIFA 20’s Career Mode. Hlanti benefits from playing numerous positions and his attributes suit many play styles.

  • Very competitive 77 Stand Tackle.
  • Decent 71 Pace.
  • 76 Crossing - good for LM or LB.

Why Hlanti is amazing:

  • Another versatile player you can play at LB, LM, or CB.
  • 6’0” tall, a monster in any area of the field.
  • 3-Star 3-Star, not bad at all for a defender.

10. Nemanja Mitrovic (Slovenia, CB) 68-69

The big center-half had already secured a club by the time I'd scouted him!

The first on our list to actually have a potential increase in his future. Mitrovic is a colossus that slots right into a progressive manager mode.

  • A monster 90 Strength.
  • 76 Jumping, with his height he will win every aerial ball.
  • Very nice Interceptions (64) and Stand (67) and Slide Tackle (65)

Why Mitrovic is amazing:

  • 6’4” - told you he was a colossus.
  • That one point growth can turn him into an even more dependable CB.
  • He has a 3-Star weak foot, so that’s nice!

9. Holmar Orn Eyjolfsson (Iceland, CB) 68

A very nicely rounded partner to Mitrovic - if you can get both!

This guy is slotting right in next to Mitrovic in my land-of-the-giants defense. Between the two of them you have a CB pairing to last you until you’re getting serious top-flight money.

  • 78 Strength and 71 Jumping, enough to tangle with anybody.
  • 73 Acceleration and 74 Sprint Speed is good for an elite CB.
  • Mid-to-high 60s in all the Defending attributes that matter (plus 70 Standing Tackle)

Why Eyjolfsson is amazing:

  • 6’3” - not quite as colossal as Mitrovic but I still wouldn’t tangle with him.
  • His speed will get his partner out of trouble on the cover.
  • He’s Icelandic, so he’s probably a Viking…

8. Todor Nedelev (Bulgaria, RM/CAM) 68-69

Another player who snuck off early - don't bother scouting, I've done it for you!

Another player with enough years still left on the clock to grow a point in his overall rating. Nedelev has 70+ attributes all over the board:

  • 78 Agility, 75 Balance, and 72 Dribbling in his Dribbling stats.
  • 72 Shot Power with a decent 66 Finishing for Shooting.
  • 76 Acceleration and 74 Sprint Speed suit his RM or CAM option.

Why Nedelev is amazing:

  • He can play reasonably anywhere across midfield or attack.
  • 3-Star 3-Star pops up again!
  • 5’9” with Medium/Medium work rates will cause problems for many a defender.

7. Matthew Ridenton (New Zealand, CDM/CM) 63-67

The first of another triple-header from the same country...

Getting into the big-time increase projects now. Ridenton starts out as a competitor in my Carlisle United side, but he can grow into a leader of the team before I’m done.

  • Stamina is an impressive 77.
  • No other attribute is over 70, but with time on his side, he has phenomenally balanced stats across the board.
  • Passing is his standout; each of the six attributes ranges from 60-65.

Why Ridenton is amazing:

  • Four points of growth make him our first real project.
  • His Physical attributes are already good so train him up as a quality CDM.
  • 23 years old. He can be a mainstay or a money-maker.

6. Andre de Jong (New Zealand, CF/CAM/ST) 60-67

And number two... Amazing potential for longevity with the free Kiwis. The Freewis! Nope.

A year behind Ridenton, 23-year-old de Jong has the potential to match his countryman despite starting out three points lower. These two will form the spine of my team for sure.

  • 64 Pace, a good starting point.
  • 65 Positioning and 63 Finishing to get him going.
  • Nicely balanced attributes in an overall 59 Dribbling stat. This guy is one to build for the future.

Why de Jong is amazing:

  • SEVEN upgrade points available for him.
  • Train him up in any position down the middle.
  • Imagine him being best buds with Ridenton since they’re both Kiwis...

5. Miha Blazic (Slovenia, CB) 64-68

Lots of room to grow (rating wise, 6'1" is as tall as he'll get, unfortunately).

A contender to take over from my titan twosome when they move on. At 26 the big Slovenian has plenty of time to climb to his 68 potential overall rating.

  • 71 Awareness leads a nice set of base Defending attributes.
  • 71 Jumping leads a nice set of base Physical attributes. Wait…
  • His Pace (58) is not terrible with four rating points to gain.

Why Blazic is amazing:

  • 6’1” - not as massive as my other two CBs, but more mobile while still an aerial menace.
  • Guess what? He has a 3-Star weak foot!
  • His Medium/Medium work rates make me want to train him in the CDM role.

4. Daniel Naumov (Bulgaria, GK) 57-66

Another young man with a lifetime to go in his career.

A massive jump here! Naumov is just 22 - practically newborn for a GK. Because of that you can boost his rating by nine as Gbohouo winds down.

  • His stats are so well-rounded that you can take him in any direction.
  • 59 Positioning, 57 Diving, 58 Handling, 54 Kicking, and 56 Reflexes. Told you.
  • 63 Jumping and 54 Balance are also useful stats for a GK.

Why Naumov is amazing:

  • He’s the biggest pet project you can undertake straight away.
  • You can get a big financial gain when it comes time to sell.
  • Or keep hold of him and build a dynasty with him between the sticks.

3. Kermit Erasmus (South Africa, ST/CF) 69

Erasmus sealed a move to Genk with some stellar stats.

Back to the South Africans, and back to the showers rather than the growers. Erasmus starts out at a 69 rating, but for a forward his attributes are all right where you want them.

  • Good Pace (79 Acceleration, 74 Sprint Speed)
  • 80 Balance and 77 Agility
  • 70 Finishing and 72 Shot Power

Why Erasmus is amazing:

  • He’s 5’6” so his frame lends itself to a tricky CAM, picking pockets and doling out assists.
  • Sound the klaxons, he’s 3-Star 3-Star!
  • You can turn a tidy profit on him if he fires you to promotion in year one.

2. Clayton Lewis (New Zealand, CAM/CM/LM) 61-69

Our final New Zealander is head and shoulders above his countrymen.

Just as with my Ivorian trio keeping goals out, we have a Kiwi threesome (steady on) putting them away! Lewis is an exciting and fast-growing prospect that has some very usable base attributes for a starting 61.

  • 73 Acceleration.
  • 81 Balance, 76 Agility.
  • That Pace and Dribbling will see you well as he grows.

Why Lewis is amazing:

  • 69 potential, a +8 growth to work on.
  • At 21 you'll have him a decade or more.
  • He can play all around the midfield to plug those injury gaps.

1. Adrian Rus (Romania, CB/CDM) 66-72

The rarest of the common starter free agents, if that makes any sense whatsoever.

Here we have it, the one player you can definitely pick up on a free and grow to a 70+ rated star. Rus is a beast that will form the second CB pairing along with Blazic.

  • 80 Jumping, 79 Strength - before you develop him.
  • 72 Acceleration and 67 Sprint Speed is already great.
  • 64 Standing and 65 Slide Tackle is fine but will be the first to increase as he grows.

Why Rus is amazing:

  • 6’0” tall, a downgrade from the two big men but Rus and Blazic will form a quick and effective partnership.
  • At 24 and a 72 final rating you can feasibly keep him until his retirement.
  • It wouldn’t be a number one on this list without a THREE STAR WEAK FOOT!

Personally, as a lower league fan myself, I would bring in as many of these players as possible while shifting as many outward transfers as I could manage. This set has two promotions in them easy (provided you’re playing on a reasonable difficulty for your skill level. I see you, Beginner mode cheaters). Set up a nice war chest and then go to work on some bigger moves.

As a side note, I would like to spare a thought for Georgi Georgiev, a name I was utterly convinced was a glitch in the player generator until I researched him. He gets the sentimental number 16 spot in my team as a new Neville Neville.
