[Top 10] Rainbow 6 Siege Best Defender Guns That Are Powerful

Top 10 Best Defender Guns That Are Powerful In Rainbow 6 Siege
The best guns that are available to defenders in Rainbow Six Siege’s Year 8 Season 1

10. M870 Shotgun

The existence of the M870 shotgun is the reason why it’s really not advisable to just simply bum rush the objective area, especially if you don’t have the game sense and reflexes of pro players like Beaulo. The M870 is a menace in close quarters combat and it’s available to Jager, Bandit, and Thorn. The M870 is one of the most, if not the most, powerful pump action shotgun in the game and one of its strengths is its fast pump cycle. Aside from its limited range, which is the drawback of most shotguns anyway, it doesn’t really have any weaknesses.

It can be fired in quick succession and can also be fired while reloading as long as a slug is present in its chamber. Its range is pretty long, especially when the user goes into aim-down-sights stance before shooting, and it packs a heavy punch per pellet. As far as typical shotguns go, the M870 is top tier, and that’s why it’s popular to those who like using shotguns. In all my years of playing Siege, most of the times that I’ve been one shotted with a shotgun is with an M870. It’s very dangerous at close range, and that’s why it deserves a spot on this list.

What makes the M870 great:

  • Heavy damage per pellet which can take down an opponent with one shot at its optimum range
  • Has a longer effective range compared to other typical shotguns due to its large barrel
  • Its fast pump cycle allows the player to reload to fast and shoot the gun while reloading
  • Has a high rate of fire compared to other pump action shotguns in the game

Weapon stats:

  • Damage - 60
  • Fire rate – 100 RPM
  • Capacity - 6+1

9. Mx4 Storm Submachine Gun

The Mx4 Storm is one of the most powerful submachines in the game and that’s mainly because of its very fast rate of fire. With 950 RPM, it has one of the highest rates of fire when it comes to submachine guns. Another great thing about this weapon is that even though it has a very fast rate of fire, its recoil remains manageable. It also has all the barrel attachments available to it, so if the user doesn’t think that the vertical grip is enough for handling its recoil, they can simply run it with any of the recoil control providing barrel attachments.

However, the barrel attachments that I would really recommend for this gun are the suppressor or the extended barrel. That’s because the vertical grip should be enough for most players to handle the weapon’s recoil. With that, the user can just simply take advantage of the benefits that the suppressor or the extended barrel offers. With the suppressor, shots from the Mx4 Storm will be a lot more silent, have no muzzle flash, and won’t provide enemies with a directional threat indicator, while the extended barrel will add damage to the weapon as well as greatly lower its range damage drop-off.

What makes the Mx4 Storm great:

  • Its stock recoil is very manageable, so it allows the user to equip an extended barrel or suppressor to its barrel
  • Has a wide variety of attachments available to it, making it highly customizable to the player’s own playstyle
  • Both the angled grip and vertical grip are available to it, so the user is free to choose between more recoil control or aim-down-sight speed
  • Has a very fast rate of fire compared to most other submachine guns in the game

Weapon stats:

  • Damage - 26
  • Fire rate – 950 RPM
  • Capacity - 30+1

8. FO-12 Shotgun

The FO-12 is the best defender shotgun that is not single-slug firing. It packs a heavy punch per pellet just like the M870 shotgun above, can be fired in quick succession, and has a fast reload animation speed. But what sets the FO-12 apart from most typical shotguns in the game is the wide variety of attachments available to it, making it heavily customizable according to the user’s own playstyle. The FO-12's only real weakness, aside from the obvious limited range, is that its vertical kick is very strong.

However, that weakness can be conquered easily because the vertical grip is available to it, and if the player is really good at recoil control or excels at flick shots, they can simply run the FO-12 with an angled grip and benefit from being able to go into aim-down-sights stance faster than normal. The FO-12 can also be equipped with either a suppressor or an extended barrel. With the extended barrel, its damage will be more powerful, and its effective range will be increased, and with the suppressor, its shots will be much quieter, therefore, lessening the risk of enemies hearing them.

What makes the FO-12 great:

  • Heavy damage per pellet allowing the user to take an opponent out with one shot at its optimal range
  • At 400 rounds per minute, it's one of the fastest shotguns that is not a single slug firing one
  • Can be equipped with an extended barrel which increases its effective range and makes its damage higher
  • Can be equipped with a suppressor which will make its gunshots much quieter and hide its directional threat indicator
  • Both the angled grip and vertical grip are available to it so the user can choose between aim-down-sights speed or more recoil control

Weapon stats:

  • Damage - 35
  • Fire rate – 400 RPM
  • Capacity - 10+1

7. 9mm C1 Submachine Gun

The 9mm C1 submachine gun is one of the most underrated guns in Siege. That’s mainly because it has a pretty low rate of fire. However, it more than makes up for it with its very manageable stock recoil. Because of its weak weapon kick, the player can freely run it with the angled grip and benefit from being able to go into aim-down-sights stance quicker than normal without getting punished when it comes to recoil control. The 9mm C1 also inflicts a decent amount of damage per shot, and one of its most overlooked strengths is its magazine capacity.

Its magazine capacity is better than average, making it a great weapon for dealing with multiple enemies at a time. Another great thing about the 9mm C1 is the availability of the scope 1.5x. With this scope, the user will be able to see enemies clearly, and since its zoom level is not so high, it won’t sacrifice a lot of peripheral view. As for its barrel attachment, the only ones available are the suppressor and extended barrel, but they’re really all you need since, as mentioned before, the user doesn’t need to add more recoil control to the weapon. With this, they’re free to take advantage of the benefits from the suppressor or the extended barrel.

What makes the 9mm C1 great:

  • Its stock recoil is very manageable, so the user is free to equip the angled grip instead of the vertical one and benefit from the aim-down-sight speed boost
  • Inflicts a good amount of damage per shot especially when equipped with an extended barrel
  • Has a higher-than-average magazine capacity making the chance of having to reload in the middle of a fight lesser
  • Has the suppressor barrel attachment available to it which would dampen its gunshot sounds and hide its directional threat indicator as well as its muzzle flash

Weapon stats:

  • Damage - 40
  • Fire rate – 575 RPM
  • Capacity - 34+1

6. Luison Handgun

The Luison deserves to be on this list because it’s such a unique and devastating gun. It’s a unique weapon to Caveira and basically a part of her special ability, so it’s kind of like a special gadget, which is a very unique thing when it comes to weapons in the game. The Luison is basically what enables Caveira to perform her interrogation special skill. That’s because shots from the Luison will always put the opponent in a down-but-not-out state first before killing them, and at close range, it takes only two to three shots from this gun to put an enemy down.

Don’t be fooled by its in-game description saying it’s non-lethal and what I said above that it will always put an enemy in a down-but-not-out state before killing them, because it will kill an opponent who’s already in a dbno state, and it will straight up kill the last opponent in the round, unless the game mode is Secure Area. Another great thing about this weapon is that its gunshots are very silent, and even if you hear them, it’ll be hard to guess exactly where they’re coming from.

What makes the Luison great:

  • Capable of taking down an enemy with only two shots regardless of their armor rating in its optimal range
  • Will always put an enemy into a down-but-not-out state first before inflicting a lethal shot which allows Caveira to perform her interrogation ability
  • Very silent gunshots making it much harder for enemies to determine where Caveira is shooting from
  • Has a good iron sight frame allowing the user to target their opponent with good accuracy

Weapon stats:

  • Damage - 65
  • Fire rate – 450 RPM
  • Capacity - 12+1

5. TCSG12 Shotgun

The TCSG12, unique to Kaid and Goyo, is a single slug firing shotgun. Now I know how most people think when they hear the word shotgun, but the TCSG12 is really more akin to a marksman rifle than to your typical shotgun. Unlike most shotguns in the game, the TCSG12 is capable of hitting headshots and inflicting damage to enemies at long-range. It packs a heavy punch per shot, not just in terms of damage to enemies, but also in its high destruction profile per shot, meaning that Kaid or Goyo can use this gun as a utility for reworking the map to their advantage.

Each shot from the TCSG12 shotgun can open a large hole on an unreinforced wall, making it a great utility for creating foot holes or head-high holes. Shots from the TCSG12 are also capable of destroying wooden beams on unreinforced walls so that means Kaid or Goyo players can use this gun to create rotation holes or destroy unreinforced hatches. Another one of its strengths is the availability of the scope 2.0x which will allow the user to see their enemies bigger on their screen, making them much easier to hit.

What makes the TCSG12 great:

  • Heavy damage per shot allowing Kaid or Goyo to take their opponents down with only a few shots
  • Has a suppressor available to it which will hide its directional threat indicator, muzzle flash, and greatly silence its gunshots
  • Both the angled grip and vertical grip are available to it allowing the user to choose between more recoil control and aim-down-sight speed
  • The scope 2.0x is available for Kaid and the scope 1.5x is available for Goyo, and both sights provide a good amount of zoom for targeting enemies
  • Has a high penetration and destruction profile per shot which allows the user to use it as a utility for reworking the map

Weapon stats:

  • Damage - 63
  • Fire rate – 450 RPM
  • Capacity - 10+1

4. DP27 Light Machine Gun

This unique weapon to Tachanka is one of the most powerful defender guns because it inflicts heavy damage, has a very high destruction and penetration profile per shot, has a huge magazine capacity, and its reload is very manageable. Its only perceivable weaknesses really are its lack of sights that provide higher zoom levels and its relatively slow rate of fire. But its strengths greatly outweigh its drawbacks, and that’s why the DP27 remains as one of the best guns in the game.

Each shot from the DP27 can puncture huge holes on unreinforced walls, making it also a great utility for reworking the map to the defenders’ advantage. Not only can it be used to create head-high holes and foot holes, it can also be used to create rotation holes since its destruction profile per shot is enough to destroy wooden supports. That means it can also be used to destroy unreinforced hatches, and its penetration power is high, so even if an enemy is behind an unreinforced wall, if they get wall banged with the DP27, they’ll receive a substantial amount of damage.

What makes the DP27 great:

  • Has devastating stopping power so it’s able to make quick work of enemies especially at close to medium-range
  • Has high destruction profile per shot making it a great utility for reworking the map to the defender’s advantage
  • Can now be equipped with any 1.0x sight so the user can choose the one that is provides them the most accuracy
  • Has a huge magazine capacity making it great for dealing with multiple enemies because it lessens the chances of it having to reload in the middle of a gunfight

Weapon stats:

  • Damage - 49
  • Fire rate – 550 RPM
  • Capacity - 70

3. UMP45 Submachine Gun

The UMP45 submachine gun, available to Castle and Pulse, is one of the most underrated guns in the game and is actually in the top tier. Its only perceivable drawback is its relatively slow rate of fire, which, at 600 RPM, is not even that bad in my opinion. And that drawback is greatly outweighed by its many strengths, and those are its wide variety of attachments, very manageable stock recoil, and a sight that provides higher zoom level in the scope 1.5x. This gun is one of the reasons why Castle and Pulse are very strong operators aside from their special gadgets.

The UMP45’s very manageable stock recoil and wide variety of attachments is a great combination, because with its low recoil, the user will be free to run with attachments that provide other benefits than additional recoil control. That’s why for its grip, it’s better for the user to run with the angled grip and take advantage of being able to go into aim-down-sight stance quicker than normal, and for its barrel attachment, the user will be free to choose between the suppressor or the extended barrel without suffering on the recoil control department because the gun will remain very stable even during long sprays.

What makes the UMP45 great:

  • Very low stock recoil allows the user to freely choose attachments that provide other benefits than recoil control
  • All muzzle attachments are available to it so the user is free to choose which one would benefit him the most
  • Both the angled grip and vertical grip are available to it and that will allow the user a choice between additional recoil control or aim-down-sight speed boost
  • The availability of the scope 1.5x will allow the user to target their enemies really well especially at close to medium range

Weapon stats:

  • Damage - 38
  • Fire rate – 600 RPM
  • Capacity - 25+1

2. P90 Submachine Gun

The P90 submachine gun used to be one of the most ignored weapons in the game. Heck, there was a time that you could even get flamed by your teammates by choosing to run with the P90 instead of the MP5 when playing Doc or Rook. However, the recent changes in the attributes of the suppressor and the extended barrel have made this very underrated weapon into a top tier one. And for the record, even before the recent rework on the suppressor and the extended barrel, I’ve always thought the P90 is a viable gun for Doc and Rook.

And now for the meat and potatoes, for those who are new to Siege or returning players and haven’t been following Siege updates, the devs have removed the damage penalty from using a suppressor and they’ve made it so that the extended barrel now adds 12% damage to weapons. This has made the P90 a great gun because aside from its scope 1.5x, huge magazine capacity, and low stock recoil, it can now benefit from the stealth and damage advantages that the suppressor and extended barrel brings. That’s why these days, you could see that Doc and Rook players are starting to use the P90 more than MP5.

What makes the P90 great:

  • Has a very manageable recoil which allows the user to choose attachments that provide other benefits than recoil control
  • Has the scope 1.5x available to it which will provide the user with a good amount of zoom while not sacrificing a lot of peripheral view
  • Has the suppressor available to it which will allow the user to shoot enemies without a directional threat indicator and with silent gunshots which will make it harder for enemies to know where the user is
  • Has the extended barrel available to it which will make its damage higher and will greatly reduce its range damage drop-off

Weapon stats:

  • Damage - 22
  • Fire rate – 970 RPM
  • Capacity - 50+1

1. ACS12 Shotgun

The ACS12 shotgun remains as the best defender gun because it’s basically a whole package. It’s a single slug firing shotgun, meaning that even though it’s a shotgun, it can score headshots and damage opponents even at long range. But unlike the other single slug firing shotguns in the game like the TCSG12 and the BOSG.12.2, the ACS12 is fully automatic, and that makes it so much easier to use. And even though it’s fully automatic, it has the heavy damage per shot that most shotguns have. What's more is that for a shotgun, the ACS12 has a huge magazine capacity.

Combine that with its heavy damage per shot and very low recoil, the weapon is both an easy and devastating weapon for Azami and Alibi. And since its recoil is very low, the user really doesn’t need to run it with a vertical grip and instead just take advantage of the added aim-down-sight speed buff that the angled grip provides. The ACS12 is also a great utility for creating rotation holes and more lines of sight since its shots can destroy wooden supports on walls. What’s more is that it has sights available to it that provides higher zoom levels, allowing the user to see their enemies better.

What makes the ACS12 great:

  • Heavy damage per shot allowing the user to take down enemies with just a few shots
  • High penetration and destruction profile per shot makes it a great utility for creating rotation holes or more lines of sight
  • Its very low stock recoil makes it alright for the user to run with the angled grip instead of the vertical one and benefit from being able to go into aim-down-sight stance faster
  • The scope 2.0x is available for Alibi and the scope 1.5x is available for Azami, and both sights provide a good amount of zoom level without compromising a lot on peripheral view

Weapon stats:

  • Damage - 69
  • Fire rate – 300 RPM
  • Capacity - 30+1
