5 Coolest Creatures in Ark: Survival Evolved

Ride all sorts of creatures into battle, raid other people's bases or simply hunting other island creatures.

Tame the coolest creatures...

Ark: Survival Evolved is an open-world survival game that includes, you guessed it, dinosaurs! It's still technically in early-access, but there's so much content already that it was hard to pick just five creatures for this list. It's quickly become a large multiplayer game with several maps, lots of free add-ons from the Steam Workshop, and plenty of content to keep you busy. The creatures are what make this game unique in a world full of survival games, so we won't keep you waiting any longer, here are the five coolest tameable creatures in Ark!

1) Exactly how it sounds... terrifying

Fast, deadly, and agile. Terror birds make for versatile ground mounts for any occasion.

Terror birds are the top of the list for the coolest tameable creatures in the game. They might look pretty goofy, especially when their little wings start flapping, but they stay true to their name. These birds typically travel in groups, which can make them a bit harder to tame because you've either got to knock them all out, or kill all but the one you want to tame. They're fairly average to tame, once you can get one knocked out, there's nothing special about the taming process. A little bit of raw meat and some narcotics and it's a done deal. The hardest part of taming, is keeping other animals from killing your terror bird. These creatures are fast, agile and deadly. They're a great mount for exploring new places. If you get stuck in a sticky situation, they'll get you out fast. Terror birds might not be the most terrifying looking mount, but never judge a book by it's cover. They are definitely one of the coolest tameable creatures in the game.

2) Look at those nails!

Coming in cool colours, ranging from bright reds to dark greys, raptors make for a very fast mount that will be sure to make you look awesome when riding one.

Raptors are some of the coolest dinosaurs in general, and it's no different in Ark. It's nearly impossible to outrun, and deadly. When you hear the quick footsteps of a raptor running at you, you should probably just lay down and cry, unless you have the melee damage and weapons to take one out. A raptor mount levelled up in the right stats can be formidable. They are found in more places than the terror birds, with the same perks. Raptors can wander off on their own, or be found in small packs of two or three. As cool as it would be, unfortunately the alpha raptors are not tameable, so don't risk it. All in all, raptors are some of the most awesome tameable creatures in the game.

3) More than your average alligator

Deadly jaws give these creatures a damage boost, but low health doesn't make them the best for combat.

The sarco is one of the best travelling mounts in the game. They can sprint pretty fast on land, and in water they are nearly uncontested for travel speed. Their health is a little low, so unless you level that stat up a lot, they aren't the best mounts for any kind of combat. If you need to get anywhere on land quickly that includes being anywhere near cluttered trees or rocks, they get stuck easily. As far as versatile mounts go, these guys are amazing. Despite the fact that clutter can get them caught, they're fast and can do some damage if they need to in a pinch, and you can move easily from land to water as needed. Not to mention, who doesn't want to ride a giant alligator?

4) Watch out for that stinger!

A large stinger on the tip of the tail makes for a formidable looking weapon.

Pulmonoscorpius is basically... well it's a giant scorpion. It's fast, it can climb rocks and other obstacles easier than any other mount. They're good for adventures when it comes to having to go up mountains, but they don't do damage when it comes to combat, instead their attack increases an opponents torpor and knocks it out. This mount is great for taming, as it doesn't require you to have narcotic arrows or tranq darts. They're a bit harder to find than the other mentioned creatures, and they can often be found in dangerous terrain, but if you need a mount that can help on your taming expeditions, this is your mount of choice.

5) Is that a fish, or a lizard?

The giant sail on it's spine is what gives the Spinosaur it's name, and also makes it easier to spot even when it's in the water.

Last, but definitely not least, one of the very coolest tameable dinosaurs in Ark: Survival Evolved is the spinosaur. It's huge, it's dangerous and it's versatile. Not the fastest mount, but it can travel on both land and water. Very few things get in a spino's way, due to it's size and combat ability. Deadly and awesome looking, it makes for one of Ark's most fearsome dinosaurs, and definitely one of the coolest ones to tame. Spinosaurs are hard to take down, they take a lot of narcotics to knock out, and quite a bit to keep them knocked out. They take quite some time to tame, but the wait is definitely worth it. They're huge, they come in some cool colours, and they're useful for everything from adventuring to combat. The spino is one of the coolest ever tameable mounts in Ark: Survival Evolved.

There are a lot of other creatures in the game to tame and plenty of other content to explore, but these five are definitely some of the coolest creatures available to tame in game. They all have their different purposes, but all around, these creatures are just super awesome, and definitely some of the best to tame. Now go on out there and tame some creatures for yourself!
