[Top 10] Smash Ultimate Best Grapplers

Smash Ultimate Best Grapplers
THESE HALF-GRAPPLERS BREAK CONVENTIONS

[Top 10] Smash Ultimate Best Grapplers

Smash Bros. is a unique fighter that breaks some of the standard conventions of a “normal” fighter. One of these is the exclusion of solid grappler fighters. Many of the characters have to have a set amount of skills to work in this type of game style, so there is no solid use for a full grappler. The characters in this list have great grappler attributes called half-grapplers.

10) Mario

It has been evident since Mario 64 that he has some great grappling skills.

Back in Smash 4, Mario was notorious for grabbing an opponent and slamming them into the ground then proceeding to up-tilt until they rack up enough damage for a kill. More toned down in this version, Mario is still able to trap opponents with his uptilt and manages to grab onto them and toss them off the stage.

Why Mario is Great

·      All around good stats

·      Easy to play

9) Ice Climbers

Finally, after being left out from the prior game, the Ice Grabbers are back but more balanced.

Not like the melee days where with enough skill a player can infinitely spam the grab button, the climbers have a bit of a cool down which makes them more balanced. Don't let this turn you off, the duo can still grab onto opponents and put on the hurt as their percentage gains numbers.

Why Ice Climbers are Great

·      Double Attack.

·      Easy Grabs

·      Great Combos

8) Captain Falcon

In my opinion, the Captain is almost the perfect character for this game.

He's got speed and power, but he also can be a great grappler. One of his special moves he grabs his opponents and explodes them away, which works against edge guarders and a great combo finisher. With his speed, he is also to dart towards opponents, which they will most certainly block, and grab them, which can result in a win depending on the percentage.

Why Captain Falcon is Great

·      Speed & Power

·      Little Lag

·      Great Combos

·      Combo Ender

·      Edge Guard Counter

7) Ness

Used to be annoying online, but is more tolerable if you can predict his movements. That back air ain’t no joke.

Ness was always one of those annoying fighters playing For Glory because of his aerial game that is hard to get out of, just like another certain witch who was significantly turned down a few notches. His PK fire is able to hold an opponent in a place for a few seconds, which is an eternity in Smash Bros. time. Also, he's got a great grab that could lead to his side air which is great at killing in mid percentages. Such a powerful move set for such a small kid.

Why Ness is Great

·      Great Aerial Combos

·      Great Grabs

·      Stun Attack

·      Great Move-set

6) Lucas

Similar to Ness but different in many ways.

Lucas has a better grab due to the help of his Snake which extends its reach not only for opponents but for ledges as well. His combos are a bit slower and more one-note than Ness' but they pack more of a punch, especially his d-air which can be sweet spotted for a meteor smash.

Why Lucas is Great

·      Extended Grabs

·      Great Move-set

·      Buries Opponent

·      Great Aerial Moves

·      Speed

5) Ganondorf

Ganon will always be my personal main, despite being low in all tier lists.

Although Ganon is very slow, he excels at grabbing his opponents and putting on the hurt. His side special is able to grab onto opponents as he slides across the stage. He then explodes the opponent, leaving them off the floor and open for a down-tilt. He can also use this grab to sacrifice himself as he plunges himself and the opponent to the bottom of the stage, only good if you have extra stock. His up special is just as good as C. Falcon's but with more lag on startup.

Why Ganondorf is Great

·      Easy K.O

·      Powerful Move-set

·      Easy Grabs

·      Strong Combos

4) Bowser

He just keeps getting better and better with each iteration of Smash.

The Koopa King is a brute on the field and even more so since they updated his fighting style in the last game. While being more agile, Bowser is able to execute grabs more efficiently. With his side special, Bowser grabs the opponent, hurls them in the air, then body slams them in the direction the player desires. Just like Ganon, Bowser can gain him an easy K.O but hurling the opponent and himself down the stage.

Why Bowser is Great

·      Decent Speed

·      Powerful Move-set

·      Easy Grabs

·      Easy K.O

·      Strong Combos

3) Incineroar

Incineroar is a great addition to the cast due to his great design and fighting background.

It's in his DNA to be a grappler since he is a wrestling Pokémon. His side-special slides him across the stage and clotheslines his enemies if done at the sweet spot, creating a more powerful attack. It can also be used as a great recovery option since his up special is pretty much trash.

Why Incineroar is Great

·      Easy Grabs

·      Powerful Move-set

·      Super-armor with Side-special

·      Move Enhancer

·      Strong Throws

2) Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong is the first great grappler back in Smash 64 and still remains as one of the best.

With his grab, he is able to carry an opponent, and the higher the percentage the longer it will last. It can be used to get an easy kill, but he has the option to toss the opponent further away from the stage and even get back on stage. He can also bury his enemies with his side-special, making them open for a Giant Punch.

Why Donkey Kong is Great

·      Great Grabs

·      Powerful Move-set & Set-ups

·      Buries Opponent

·      Great Combos

·      Easy K.O

1) Luigi

Luigi has strayed further away from being a copy of Mario, but now he finally had his trademark Poltergust.

The addition of the Poltergust replaced his grab to become a more extended grab that can help start many of his combos. He's a lot of fun to play as he is easy to pick up and troll against other opponents. He has a decent power output, but he is forgiven because he has two options to get easy kills; his up-special and surprisingly his down taunt as it is able to spike opponents hanging on the ledge.

Why Luigi is Great

·      Unpredictable

·      Extended Grab

·      Great Combos

·      Easy K.Os

·      Speed
