A Sim "making it rain"

As in real life, The Sims 4 requires money to do anything fun.

When your Sim is first starting out, they are granted a measly 20,000 simoleons. This gets eaten up quickly when buying your Sim’s first home, leaving little to furnish or pay bills. This means you need to make money, and fast! Here are the top 5 ways to quickly make more simoleons (without cheating).

5. Fishing

The Sims 4 Fishing Skill Guide - Tips for Catching All Types of Fish

Fishing is a great way to make money when first starting off, as it requires zero start-up cash. Your Sim can spend hours fishing in various fishing spots around the different neighborhoods, catching all kinds of fish. Depending on the quality, rarity, and size of the fish you catch, your Sim can make anywhere from a few bucks to over 100 simoleons for a single fish. You can also mount the fish and sell them for a few more simoleons than just the regular fish.

  • Have your Sim travel to any body of water that has the “fishing spot” signpost beside it.
  • Click on the signpost to fish (either with or without lures).
  • Wait while your Sim fishes, occasionally catching a fish or sometimes a worthless boot.
  • Continue to fish to increase your Sim’s fishing skill, allowing them to catch other kinds of fish.
  • After you’ve caught some fish, open your inventory and click and drag your fish into the “sell” square and cash in on your catches.
  • Don’t wait too long to sell your fish, or they become foul and are essentially worthless.

 4. Become an Interstellar Smuggler

The Sims 4 How to do Space Missions and Explore Space

This way to make money takes more time and start-up simoleons, but it is completely worth it. Have you Sim join the astronaut career and work their way up, until they can decide to either become an Interstellar Smuggler or a Space Ranger and choose the Smuggler option. This career path, once you reach the top, can earn your Sim over 5,000 simoleons per working day. Plus, you can explore in your rocket ship and find various space collectibles that can be sold for simoleons as well.

  • Using your Phone or Computer, enter into the Astronaut career
  • Purchase a Steampunk Flyamajig for 5,000 simoleons and build it, which costs an additional 1,000.
  • Work on increasing your Rocket Science, Fitness, and Logic skills to work your way through the career
  • In your Sim’s free time, explore space to find collectibles to sell for extra simoleons.
  • Choose the Interstellar Smuggler career track when the option comes up after you are promoted to Level 8.
  • Keep getting promoted until you max out the career and start earning the big bucks!

3. Hacking

How to Hack The Sims 4 (money)

Hacking is a mischievous way to earn simoleons on the side. This requires an advanced level of the Programming skill in order to hack larger servers and make the most money. You can make over 1,000 simoleons when hacking the Supercomputer, which becomes an available option when you’ve maxed out the programming skill.

  • Buy a cheap desk, chair, and computer
  • Start “Practice Programming” on the computer until you’ve opened up other programming options, like modding games, creating plug-ins, and making apps or video games.
  • Once the “Hack” option comes up, choose that, and choose the lowest complexity for your first time. Whether you’re successful or not, this option requires a 24-hour cooldown, before you can try again.
  • As you gain simoleons, upgrade your computer to make it more resilient against the Supercomputer, which can reportedly break your computer beyond repair.

 2. Writing Books

The Sims 4 - Writing Money Making Guide

Writing books in The Sims 4 is an easy way to earn income that builds up over time, netting your Sim up to several thousand dollars day, depending on how many novels they write and whether or not the books are “Bestsellers.”

  • Buy a cheap desk, chair, and computer
  • Start by “Practice Writing” to build up your skill level for several hours.
  • After you’ve done that, go ahead and write a children’s book. This won’t net you much money, but it’s a start.
  • Click on the mailbox and “Self-Publish” your novel. As you level up your writing skill, you’ll be able to send the books to the publisher and then to a literary agency.
  • Continue to build your writing skill and work on the different genres that become available as your Sim levels up.
  • Scriptwriting has been shown to be the quickest genre to write, and nets the most money, depending on the Sim’s skill level
  • Start receiving money every day from the sales of your books, and watch your Simoleons grow.

1. Painting

Painting is the quickest way to make a lot of cash. You can combine painting with the Painter Extraordinaire aspiration to build up aspiration points to eventually purchase the Creative Visionary trait, to churn out more masterpieces. This method requires a small start-up cost, which includes buying an easel to paint on. Each painting costs a little bit to begin, but you’ll barely notice these costs as you earn more and more money from your paintings.

  • Purchase an easel.
  • Start painting!
  • Paint large paintings to increase your Painting skill level faster.
  • Sell to Art Gallery or Collector, whichever will give you the most money.
  • If you have City Living, you may be able to sell artwork at the flea market.
  • If you have Open for Business, you can start your own art gallery and sell paintings that way.
  • If you have Get Famous, you can also gain fame for selling paintings.
