Minecraft has amazing mods from great technical mods to adventure-type modpacks. Then, there is the zombie apocalypse. Made and played in the 2010's and still being played to this day. 10. Hostile Worlds - Invasions

Have you ever though that the nights in Minecraft were just a bit too tame? Well, let this mod fix that for you.

If you are using Hostile Worlds – Invasions in your Minecraft world, you will be subjected to  nightly invasions every three nights. In these invasions, different types of zombies will attack you and your base. However, you can’t just build a cobblestone wall to stop them, it’s not that easy. The different types of zombies will help each other climb over walls and other zombies will even break blocks to get to you. Don’t worry though, the broken blocks will repair themselves after the night is over.

You can even use sacrifice blocks to stop the invasions. However, doing so will make the next invasion even harder.

Why Hostile Worlds - Invasions is fun:

• The mod puts an emphasis on building a base and having resources to survive the invasions. Things become more difficult and really fun. Trying to fend off different types of zombies from eating you is definitely a nice addition to the game for those of us who love zombie apocalypse mods.

9. Mustard Virus

This mod adds a virus into the game. Yes, a virus. This virus has wiped out humanity before, and now the infected are trying to get to you.

Similar to hostile worlds (the previous mod we talked about), the zombies will attack you and break your base. However, this time your base doesn’t repair itself. The infected zombies are very difficult to kill, and you will have to use every resource available to fend off the hordes of infected coming your way. Try to build thick walls, make traps, and prepare for the hordes of zombies that will try everything in their power to get to you and eat you.

Why Mustard Virus is fun:

• The mod creates a great scenario where a virus has wiped out humanity and you (and your friends) are the only one(s) left and have to survive the strengthened zombies.
• The zombies don’t take damage from sunlight anymore and they can trace you through light and sound. This mod definitely brings some thriller movie vibes to the entire game.

8. Simply Zombies

This mods gets to the basics really quickly. First of all, there are now no mobs except zombies. Don’t worry though, there are a lot of different mob drops for zombies like gunpowder, so you will still be able to get those items and progress through the game.

Zombies are, of course, more powerful and they spawn more often. They are also now significantly faster, so they pose more of a threat. No more “zombies barely crawling towards you and can’t really hurt you”. They also don’t burn in sunlight. This mod does not add weapons, new items, or anything like that. So, if you are a vanilla player that just wants a little bit of a different flavor for your Minecraft world, this mod might be for you.

Why Simply Zombies is fun:

• The game does not change too much from the vanilla experience while still having a zombie apocalypse scenario. Zombies are tougher, faster, spawn more often, and are more resistant to things. So, gameplay is a little bit different, and you really have to be careful during the night if you want to traverse the overworld.

7. ZombieCraft

The game feels more like DayZ with the addition of new food items like canned foods that help you get into the mindset of a zombie apocalypse scenario. There is even a new item called “alloy” that you need to get your hands on to craft items like crowbars, machetes, and more.

Here is a different mod for a zombie apocalypse. The mod adds new mobs and zombie variants that are really strong, and you might need to go the extra mile to survive against them.

There are the Frostbitten, Undead Miner, Swampy, Burned, Mummy, and other zombie types. They all want to take a bite out of you and by killing them, you can get new items like infernal rotten flesh or frozen rotten flesh. There are also some surprises waiting for you here with some off-the-wall crazy zombie variants as well.

4. Zombie Awareness

Okay, we are getting into the good stuff now. With this mod, you really need to be careful around zombies. Not only around them, but even when you are feeling safe and secure. Zombies will be able to smell you. If you get hurt, you will leave behind a blood scent which the zombies can use to track you. Also, if you make noise, they will also hear that as well. Also also, be careful when you are mining, zombies will also see light sources and go towards it.

There are new groups of zombies hanging around in the overworld as well, trying to find fresh meat. There is a lot of other variants for zombies like faster zombies as well. While this mod does not add new weapons or armor or anything like that, this is a great addition to zombies without changing the game around too much. Definitely check this mod out or use it in your zombie apocalypse modpack, this is one of the best zombie improvement and zombie apocalypse mods out there.

• Zombies will be much smarter than before, and the player has to work hard to avoid them or not get caught by them.
• This mod is available all the way to 1.19.2. Now, you can explore those gigantic caves while knowing that the zombies will investigate any noise they hear. A lot of fun! And spooky too.

3. Crafting Dead

How about making the game into a survival game? Well, if you want dozens of guns, armor, and a whole lot of other types of items that all fit into the genre of zombie apocalypse, you are reading the right paragraph.

The zombies here are relentless. They will come to you in hordes, and you really have to be careful to not injure yourself while running away from them. Yes, you can break your legs in the game, bleed out, get infected, and all that good stuff. This is definitely one of the best experiences if you straight up want to play DayZ or some other similar zombie survival game but in Minecraft, this is definitely for you.

2. 7 Days to Mine

Have you ever played 7 Days to Die? I did, and it was a really fun game. This time though, you will have to survive 7 days in Minecraft while zombies are swarming every day and night.

There are a lot of new items to craft, new structures all around the world and a whole new map for you to enjoy. Traversing new places are dangerous and the game is really not forgiving. You have to survive 7 days, and a huge horde of zombies come at you every night. Even at day, you are not safe from the zombies. They will hunker in buildings, so be careful looting! You can use a variety of traps to make your chances of survival higher when the night comes. You can also use guns, too! Completely changing the game into a zombie apocalypse survival game, 7 Days to Mine is a must-try for everyone who likes zombie-centered video games or other media.

Why 7 Days to Mine is fun:

• There is a whole dedicated map for the mod that have cities, different buildings all around the world, even plane wreckages. There is a whole lot of adventure and thriller in the game, yay!
• The mod offers you different guns, armor, things to eat and heal yourself with. You can craft, but crafting certain things are really difficult and even for the easier ones, you will have to loot. Looting is really enjoyable in this mod and definitely one of the high points of the mod altogether.

1. Decimation - Zombie Apocalypse

I said that the other mods changed Minecraft completely into a zombie survival game. Well, that’s true. But Decimation – Zombie Apocalypse even goes a few, okay, a few hundred more steps forward until you can’t even recognize the game anymore.

There are skill trees that help you get better at doing certain things, there is a morality mechanics, there is now blood and gore just the way we survival game nerds like it, and countless other things. There are safe zones with NPCs that you can trade with to stay alive and survive as much as possible. There are also dozens of new armor types, equipment, and guns. You can play it multiplayer as well. Honestly, there is nothing much to say here. In terms of “adventure” mods in Minecraft, this is one of the best out there. It is so intricately crafted that, like I said before, you can’t even say that the game you are playing is Minecraft anymore. Everything is different and the mod itself can be regarded as one of the best zombie apocalypse video games out there, even if it’s not even a game by itself. If you are interested in this type of mod for Minecraft, this is a must, and I mean a must-try!

Why Decimation - Zombie Apocalypse is fun:

• Hundreds of new items, new places to explore, zombies to defeat, and ways to stay alive or die, what more can you want?
