3. Burst Support Hu Tao

A very refreshing way to play Hu Tao, her role as burst support or sub DPS in your team composition should not be underestimated. Wipe enemies off by combining her burst with strong elemental reactions like Melt or Vaporize!

What Burst Support Hu Tao Excels In:

• High Burst DMG output 
• Easily one-shot bosses / large enemies
• Can fit in a lot of team compositions

Build details:

• Weapons:
  • Staff of Homa (5*) - no matter what build she is using, this will always be Hu Tao’s best weapon. 
  • Primordial Jade Winged-Spear / Engulfing Lightning (5*) - both considerably increase Hu Tao’s base ATK / Energy Recharge, and are decent choices for Burst Support Hu Tao. 
  • Deathmatch / Blackcliff Pole (4*) - good weapons on Burst Support Hu Tao because of their CRIT second stat. 
  • Dragon’s Bane (4*) - while a decent weapon on Burst Support Hu Tao, this is harder to use on her due to it requiring the best artifacts on Hu Tao.

2. EM (Elemental Mastery) DPS Hu Tao

While this build is an odd way of building Hu Tao, it can shred enemies faster than Burst Support Hu Tao since she’s going to be used  as a main DPS this time. Some players have reported higher DMG output in an EM DPS Hu Tao build than a Tanky DPS Hu Tao build, but take note that this can be situational depending on the type of enemies that you are facing!

What EM DPS Hu Tao Excels In:

• Extremely strong Vape / Melt reactions
• Good for buffless reaction team compositions (does not need Bennett for buffs)

  • Dragon’s Bane (4*) - this is no doubt the best 4* weapon for EM DPS Hu Tao because of its EM second stat and passive
  • Blackcliff Pole / Deathmatch (4*) / White Tassel (3*) - decent alternatives if you don’t have Dragon’s Bane (4*).

1. Tanky DPS Hu Tao

Since Hu Tao’s E skill scales off her HP%, this build is how most people play Hu Tao. Having a higher health pool would mean that her survivability increases too, although Hu Tao is preferably played when her HP is low. It takes quite a bit of skill to master this main DPS playstyle, but it is very rewarding once you get the hang of it!

What Tanky DPS Hu Tao Excels In:

• Very high DMG output
• Higher survivability 
• Flexible team compositions
• Arguably her best build

Build details:

• Weapons:
  • Staff of Homa (5*) 
  • Primordial Jade Winged-Spear (5*) - Tanky DPS Hu Tao’s second best weapon due to its high ATK base and CRIT 2nd stat.
  • Deathmatch / Blackcliff Pole (4*) - while Deathmatch is generally better, it is a Battle Pass weapon that can only be bought with money. Blackcliff Pole is a free 4* weapon that can be exchanged using Star Glitters.
  • Dragon’s Bane / Lithic Spear (4*) - decent 4* weapons on Tanky DPS Hu Tao because of their EM / ATK substat.
  • White Tassel (3*) - a decent free-to-play 3* weapon on Hu Tao that gives CRIT substat.
• Artifacts: 4-piece Crimson Witch of Flames
  • HP Flower
  • ATK Feather
  • HP% Sands (can use EM sands if you don’t have one yet)
