[Top 10] DBZ Best Sagas Worth Watching Again (Ranked)

Wassup everybody! Your friendly neighborhood Shounen Man here with another DragonBall Z list for you. I’m telling you I could write these forever. Today’s list is all about the entirety of the story of Dbz. We are going to focus on the best sagas the series has to offer and ask a simple question. What makes a saga great? Is it the new power levels that are reached or transformations that are acquired? Maybe it’s the new characters and crazy battles? Let us look together and see if we can’t figure out what is the best Dbz sagas worth watching again. This is a ranked list from good to best in my opinion.

10. Namek Saga

Coming in at number 10 we have the Namek saga! Just after their intense battle with the Saiyans on earth, the Z-Warriors had to head to the planet Namek to locate Namek’s dragon balls. Their plan was to bring back the friends that were killed during the Saiyan saga. When they get to Namek they discover the enemy that just caused all the destruction on their planet Vegeta. On top of that, they discover a new enemy who is far beyond Vegeta’s level of power. Emperor Frieza’s power was a terrifying discovery for our heroes. This is a great saga as we get introduced to a universe full of power that they hadn’t even scratched yet.

Best parts of the saga:

  • Seeing Vegeta destroying people who underestimate his strength was a great display for fans of the new renegade warrior.
  • Getting to see Piccolo/Kami’s home and see more Nameks was awesome. Also, the fan favorites Nail and Dende were also introduced.
  • The battle against the Ginyu force was the best part of the saga by far. When Goku comes in and beats the powerful Recoome in one blow I found myself cheering.

9. Peaceful World Saga

Coming in at number 9 we have the peaceful saga! This saga begins with G,oku doing some old-school Goku-stuff. We come in on his family getting ready to go to a barbecue and Chi-Chi complaining that he’s always late. Then we go to Goku who like his younger self, is hanging out watching dinosaur eggs, waiting for them to hatch. He ends up wrapped up saving the eggs. In this saga, we also have another world tournament in which our heroes are participating. Goku has a different reason for joining the tournament than usual.

Best parts of the saga:

  • One of my personal favorites parts of this saga was meeting the reincarnation of Buu, Uub. At the end of the Buu saga, Goku makes a wish for Buu to be resurrected as good and he gets his wish.
  • Seeing Goku back to doing his normal things like caring for the pterosaur eggs and joining a world tournament.
  • Another great thing about this saga is getting to see all our favorites characters aged by 10 years. Goten, Trunks, and even Dbz’s version of Pan which was really awesome.

8. Trunks Saga

Coming in at number 8 we have the Trunks Saga! Here we have the saga that introduces the wildly popular Trunks. This saga starts with the Z-warriors which have been at peace and have included Vegeta in their numbers sensing that Frieza is on his way to earth. None of them had enough power to stop him so they were all terrified as they headed to the battlefield to meet him head-on. This saga offers up many amazing moments for viewers to get excited about and even quite a few hilarious moments.

Best parts of the saga:

  • When Frieza shows up there is a sense of foreboding and a certainty that people are going to start dying. Then Trunks shows up and utterly demolishes not only Frieza but his father King Cold as well.
  • We also got to see the return of Goku from the planet Yardrat where he has been since the Frieza saga. Trunks challenges him with his sword and Goku blocks his strikes with his finger.
  • In the hilarious episode, Goku’s ordeal, Chi-chi forces Goku and Piccolo to go take driver tests to try to get their licenses. What ensues is a hilarious episode where they both fail after causing mayhem competing with each other.

7. OtherWorld Saga

Coming in at number 7 we have the OtherWorld Saga! This saga came right after the Cell saga showing what Goku was doing after giving his life in the battle against Cell. We come in on snake way with Goku and King Kai heading to the Grand Kai’s home so Goku can meet all the amazing warriors there. We get introduced to some new characters including the previously mentioned Grand Kai which is an eccentric old man with a rock star personality. There were also a few warriors including the very interesting Pikkon. We also get treated to a tournament in this saga which is always great.

Best parts of the saga:

  • Pikkon is definitely one of the things that made this saga. We get to see the mysterious alien’s power right after his introduction when he easily defeats both Cell and Frieza at the same time.
  • The tournament was another huge part and arguably the best part of the saga. We got to see all kinds of crazy competitors with even crazier abilities but ultimately Goku stopped them all.
  • The best part of the tournament was the battle at the end between Goku and Pikkon, The two amazing warriors went back and forth for awhile using every move and trick they knew until Goku eventually knocks him out of the ring.

6. Android Saga

Coming in at number 6 we have the Android Saga! This saga falls right after the Frieza saga. This is a really action-packed saga that begins with our heroes’ peaceful lives being interrupted by the return of Frieza. Just when they thought they stood no chance a mysterious warrior shows up and kills Frieza as well as his father. We also have the introduction of characters that will eventually be mainstays in this series as well as DragonBall Super. The enemies in this saga continually change, every time you believe you know who the big bad is you get surprised.

Best parts of the saga:

  • When Goku is being defeated by Android 19 due to a heart condition that was weakening him, Vegeta shows up with the ability to become a Super Saiyan and utterly decimates 19 in a huge explosion with his big bang attack.
  • We get to see Trunks, the boy from the future, and find out that he is actually Vegeta and Bulma’s child. We also see his true fear when he sees the androids.
  • Vegeta’s fight against the femme fatale android 18 was this writer’s favorite battle during this saga. Even with his newly acquired power, Vegeta was no match for her and even got his arm broken from a swift kick after he made her angry.

5. Fusion Saga

Coming in at number 5 we have the Fusion Saga! This saga was a DragonBall Z fan’s wet dream. There were so many amazing things in this saga including a new technique called fusion dance that we get to see Trunks and Goten use. On top of that, we get Gohan making a brief return to being an extremely powerful character which was something fans were asking for since the end of the Cell saga. There are a lot of moments that hold this saga as one of the best in the series.

Best parts of the saga:

  • Seeing the very interesting fusion dance learned by Goten and Trunks was not only very cool but also hilarious. Every time they mess up they turn into some ridiculous form of themselves.
  • When the boys get it right we are treated to the incredibly cocky Gotenks who was a really cool warrior with lots of interesting moves likes Galactic Donuts or his Kamikaze Ghost attack.
  • The best part for sure was the fusion of Goku and Vegeta fusing using the Potara earrings. They become Vegito and proceed to destroy Super Buu. Even when he turns them into candy they just keep beating him up.

4. Cell Saga

Coming in at number 4 we have the Cell Saga! Here we have the saga popular for the savagery and cunning of the monster Cell as well as the transformations that all the Saiyans underwent. We first come upon Cell in a city feeding on the citizens. After Piccolo gets a power upgrade he finds him a overwhelms the monster. Due to Cell being a mix of all the heroes he continually evades capture by using Solar flare and keeping his power level down.

Best parts of the saga:

  • when Piccolo fuses with Kami to become whole again he gains so much power and becomes relevant again much to the excitement of the fans. His battle with android 17 was one of the best piccolo fights out there.
  • Goku, and Gohan as well Vegeta, and Trunks take turns using the Hyperbolic time chamber to train. Vegeta and Trunks come out first and show off their powers. Cell gets dominated until he gains his final form.
  • At the end of the saga, we end up with Gohan battling Cell. It became clear that Gohan was the last hope to beat Cell and after he finally unleashes his rage that he has been holding back for the entire series we get Super Saiyan 2.

3. Saiyan Saga

Coming in at number 3 we have the Saiyan Saga! This saga is so high up on my list for quite a few reasons. First and foremost this is the Saga that started the entire series off and showed the new direction of the show from its predecessor. We start off with Goku taking his son to meet all of his friends on Roshi island. During the reunion, an intruder, that we discover is Goku’s brother Raditz, kidnaps Goku’s son Gohan. Piccolo and Goku join forces and after defeating him find out there are more enemies on the way. These enemies turn out to be Vegeta and Nappa.

Best parts of saga:

  • When Piccolo uses his special beam cannon to stop Raditz and has to kill Goku as well we all lost our minds. Watching our hero fall to the ground dead for the first time was intense and left us unsure of his fate.
  • The battle against Nappa continued the dark theme of the Saiyan Saga with all the Z-heroes except Gohan and Krillin dying. When Goku comes in and saves them was an exciting moment.
  • The fight between Vegeta and Goku was not only the best part by far in the saga but it also was the beginning of a rivalry that spans the entire series.

2. Frieza Saga

Coming in at number 2 we have the Frieza Saga! This Saga marks another big change for our story when it introduces the Super Saiyan. We come into this saga with our heroes beginning the battle against Frieza. So many of our heroes fight him but he seemingly has a transformation hidden up his sleeve at every turn. Eventually, he transforms into his final form and begins beating our heroes senseless. Vegeta, Piccolo, Gohan, and Krillin were all being beaten by this monster until Goku showed up and changed the battle.

Best parts of the saga:

  • Piccolo fusing with Nail was an awesome sight and a cool thing to learn that namekians can do. Then he shows up and stomps second form Frieza which was a big win for Piccolo fans.
  • When Vegeta dies we get to witness one of the things that make him one of my favorite anime characters. We see past his bravado and get a glimpse into his heart. Seeing how he feels about his species being destroyed and Frieza being the one who did it.
  • Goku dropping the spirit bomb on Frieza was so awesome but when he comes back and kills Krillin, well that’s when the real party starts. Enraged Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan for the first time and takes the fight to Frieza.

1. Buu Saga

Coming in at number 1 we have the Buu Saga! This may be a choice that most people disagree with but this saga is my favorite. From the ending of a character arc, that was progressing from the first saga for my favorite character to the most powerful villain we’ve ever seen. This saga was filled with action, betrayal, and the unique brand of comedy that DragonBall Z offers. We get to see some amazing fights and transformations as well. The reasons why this saga is the best are tenfold but I will state a few down below.

Best parts of the saga:

  • My favorite part is Vegeta’s struggle with the hero he had become versus the monster he used to be. He struggled with his identity and who he truly wanted to be. This saga shows Vegeta as the relatable character that he is.
  • All the different power-ups in this saga were great. We had the fused warriors Vegito and Gogeta. We had Gohan gaining a new mystic form. Not to mention all of Buu’s transformations.
  • The final battle between Goku/Vegeta/Buu against Kid Buu was one of the best in the entire series. The battle goes back in forth with our heroes tagging in and out against Kid Buu until finally he was defeated.
