[Top 10] MK1 Ashrah Skins (Ranked)

Huh…pretty easy to forget that she’s a demon

Meet the wonderful femme fatale Ashrah, and the character I was most excited to see in Mortal Kombat 1 who originated in the 3D era. If you don’t really remember this demoness, you at least remember her giant hat!

Now Ashrah has returned to Mortal Kombat with a fresh, new design, but her mission is still the same: to purify the realms, and herself, of all evil. And with her new design, Ashrah also comes with her own special collection of skins too.

#1: Unholy Avenger

If I were Captain America, I’d recruit Ashrah for the Avengers!

Unholy Avenger in action:

Start at 2:32

Since Ashrah’s whole mission involves saving the innocent by getting rid of all evil, I felt it was only fair to start off this list with Unholy Avenger! This skin is one of the New Era category, and it contains a palette of white and blue. To unlock Unholy Avenger, you have to level up your Character Mastery.

Seeing the colors white and light blue, you immediately get a sense of calm and peacefulness even. And the title of the skin is ironic as Ashrah, a creature of darkness, is fighting on the side of good as an “unholy avenger”. The colors of Unholy Avenger represent this well, because Ashrah is someone we can trust despite her demonic origins.

#2: Heaven and Hell

This new Spyro game looks fire!

Heaven and Hell in action:

Start at 2:38

The next New Era skin we’ll look at is Heaven and Hell. Heaven and Hell has a palette that includes colors such as gold and violet. There are no specific requirements needed to obtain Made to Suffer as you can get it from the Shrine or purchase it from the store.

Despite her journey of absolution, Ashrah will still be a demon at heart. She has become a creature of light and dark with the gold in the skin pictured above representing the light and the violet representing the darkness. A woman of “Heaven and Hell”, indeed!

#3: Hallowed Huntress

Aren’t fall colors the best?

Hallowed Huntress in action:

Start at 2:45

Keeping the holy theme going, we got another New Era skin called Hallowed Huntress. This skin for Ashrah has a palette that contains colors like red and gold. To unlock Hallowed Huntress, you have to level up your Character Mastery.

The word hallowed means that something has become holy or consecrated. It can also mean to be greatly revered and honored. Both of these definitions fit Ashrah’s character as her mission is to become a fully purified being and because of her deeds, she will be remembered as a hero.

#4: Almost Human

Smoke would definitely approve!

Almost Human in action:

Start at 2:52

Almost Human, which describes Ashrah’s appearance pretty accurately, is an uncommon New Era skin. The skin’s palette is monochromatic with different shades of gray being shown. To unlock Almost Human, you have to level up your Character Mastery.

As Ashrah goes about her mission destroying sinister beings like demons and vampires, her physical appearance acts as a meter to show her progress. The more monsters the demoness gets rid of, the more her appearance resembles a human woman. I like to think whenever Ashrah looks in a mirror, she is motivated and pleased the more her form takes on a humanoid look.

#5: Banished by Darkness

Looks like someone’s got the Midas Touch

Banished by Darkness in action:

Start at 3:04

The last of Ashrah’s New Era skins to be featured on this list is Banished by Darkness, a legendary skin. The skin has a palette of gold and black. To unlock Banished by Darkness, you have to level up your Character Mastery.

The use of gold in Banished by Darkness is an interesting choice to me. Gold is such a bright color that rivals white in its intensity and white and gold are often associated with holy matters. And the way the gold in Ashrah’s Banished by Darkness skin overpowers the black symbolizes how the warrior overcame her own darkness.

#6: Vanquisher of Vice

Okay, Ashrah looks like an absolute GODDESS in this skin!

Vanquisher of Vice in action:

Start at 3:31

Finally wearing something similar to her iconic umbrella of a hat, we’ll be moving on to Ashrah’s Union of Light skins with the first being Vanquisher of Vice. Vanquisher of Vice contains a palette with colors such as peach and white. To unlock Vanquisher of Vice, you have to level up your Character Mastery.

The word “vice” means immoral or wicked behavior, so if Ashrah is a Vanquisher of Vice…well, you get the point. I’m sure Ashrah’s mission to fight evil has been hammered into your brain by now with the last skins. I, on the other hand, will never get tired of hearing how cool of a person Ashrah is!

#7: Drahmin's Enemy

What in the name of the Elder Gods is a “Drahmin”!?

Drahmin's Enemy in action:

Start at 3:37

Drahmin’s Enemy is a Union of Light skin of Ashrah’s and it is also a common skin like Vanquisher of Vice. This skin’s palette, however, differs from the previous skin as it has colors like purple and blue.  There are no specific requirements needed to obtain Drahmin’s Enemy as you can get it from the Shrine or purchase it from the store.

While Ashrah is one of the 3D era characters who play a role in Mortal Kombat 1, there were a few other characters created around the same time as the demoness who are at least mentioned in MK1. Drahmin is one of those characters and for those of you who are too young to know anything about Mortal Kombat’s 3D era characters, Drahmin is a demon called an Oni. Before Drahmin was exiled to the Netherrealm upon his death, he was a warlord in Outworld, but now he spends his eternal damnation wearing a stupid mask and wielding a club for an arm.

#8: Rising Demon

I know Deadpool suggested that Ashrah wear red

Rising Demon in action:

Start at 3:45

You guys remember when movie titles had to have the word “rise” or “rising” in it? Well, I think Johnny Cage has been a bad influence on Ashrah with Rising Demon! The skin has a palette that contains colors such as red and gold. To unlock Rising Demon, you have to level up your Character Mastery.

Back when Ashrah was enslaved by the sorcerer Quan Chi, she was a part of the Sisterhood of Shadow, a subgroup from the Brotherhood of Shadow. The group consisted of Ashrah and her sisters Sareena, Kia, and Jataaka and this position put her in high ranks in the Netherrealm. While Rising Demon could be referring to her former status, I think the title could also be hinting at some problems for Ashrah in the future, as if her demonic nature may try to return…

#9: Purifying Flames

THIS GIRL IS ON FIRRRRRRREEEEEEE!

Purifying Flames in action:

Start at 3:59

Purifying Flames, a common Union of Light skin, really takes bold to a whole new level! The palette of Purifying Flames has colors like crimson and gold. There are no specific requirements needed to obtain Purifying Flames as you can get it from the Shrine or purchase it from the store.

You ever wonder why fire is used in events such as rituals or rites of passage? Fire is used to symbolize the cleansing of something, whether it’s getting rid of your old lifestyle to live a new one or destroying your own personal demons. I think with Ashrah, it’s more of the latter with it being taken VERY literally.

#10: Weal and Woe

Halloween anyone?

Weal and Woe in action:

Start at 4:06

We’ll end this list with one last Union of Light skin, Weal and Woe. Weal and Woe’s palette contains colors such as orange and black. There are no specific requirements needed to obtain Weal and Woe as you can get it from the Shrine or purchase it from the store.

The phrase “weal and woe” happiness and sorrow, success and difficulty, etc. Basically referring to how someone will be there for you in the best and worst of times. Could Weal and Woe be alluding to a certain Zaterran who has somehow wooed the lovely Ashrah?

Ashrah may be a pretty straightforward character with her goals made evident the moment you meet her in Mortal Kombat 1’s story. But there’s so much more to her than being a warrior battling for peace across the realms. Ashrah has her own dreams, her own desires just like us humans. But right now, I think Ashrah just wants you to get her these awesome skins before she makes Syzoth bite your head off. Or maybe swallow you whole, depending on his mood.
