[Top 10] MK1 Best Rain Skins (Ranked)

It’s raining blood! Hallelujah! It’s raining blood! Amen!

How did this simple palette swap ninja turn into a powerful hydromancer who happens to be the son of a god!? Of course, I’m talking about Outworld’s former High Mage Rain, who despite having been stripped of his divine status in the new era, is still as entitled as he was before.

As someone who held a high position in Outworld for some time, Rain was treated as good as Outworld’s royal family, even being considered as Sindel’s adopted son. And with Rain’s status, he also got to wear the best outfits Outworld had to offer, so let’s take a look at a few, shall we?

#1: Weatherbeater

“Obey me, weather, for I am your master!”

Weatherbeater in action:

Start at 0:45

Weatherbeater would be a cool superhero name, but I think I like Rain better. But Weatherbeater, which happens to be the name of the common New Era skin shown above, is also a cool skin with its palette of blue and gold. There are no specific requirements needed to obtain Weatherbeater as you can get it from the Shrine or purchase it from the store.

Rain is what we call a hydromancer, a person who has the ability to control water. But while some may not view water as much of a threat, they’d change their minds if they saw some random dude summon a whole freaking whirlpool to kill them! Rain is Storm from X-Men if she were a guy and had no problem murdering anyone.

#2: Flash Flood

Okay Rain, I think you’re overdoing it with the water now…

Flash Flood in action:

Start at 0:47

A flood itself is pretty scary, but a flood created by Rain himself is absolutely terrifying! But in this case, Flash Flood is nothing to be afraid of as this is a common New Era skin for Rain with a palette containing purple and gold. To unlock Flash Flood, you have to level up your Character Mastery.

For those who don’t know, a flash flood is caused by an excessive amount of rainfall in a short period of time. Rain could cause such a flood with a snap of his fingers because of his magic, which is still just as powerful as when he was a demigod. But I mean, I’d rather he didn’t do that, you know?

#3: Taken by Storm

First you betray Outworld and now you decide to steal Mileena’s signature color!?

Taken by Storm in action:

Start at 0:51

Rain definitely has the fashion world taken by storm, I’ll tell you that. Taken by Storm is a common New Era skin and it contains a palette of pink and gold. To unlock Taken by Storm, you have to level up your Character Mastery.

While the skin does look cool, I do question why pink and gold were used for this skin. Is it to show the connection Rain used to have with Outworld’s royal family and pink was used since Mileena is currently Outworld’s empress? Or is it to show that there’s still some good in Rain since pink is a color often associated with love and compassion?

#4: Heavy Rain

Seriously Rain, stop with all the…rain

Heavy Rain in action:

Start at 0:53

Don’t worry, a little rain ain’t never hurt nobody—OH GODS, THE WATER IS UP TO MY NECK! Well, before I meet my watery demise, I’ll quickly talk about this next common New Era skin called Heavy Rain, which has a palette with the colors purple and gold. To unlock Heavy Rain, you have to level up your Character Mastery.

Fun Fact: did you know that Rain was created as a homage to the singer Prince? There’s actually a very popular song of Prince’s known as “Purple Rain”, and that’s how Rain got his name and his signature color. Now if only he was as nice as Prince, because then I wouldn’t currently be in the middle of a flood.

#5: Cleansing Storm

Well, at least we know that Rain definitely showers daily!

Cleansing Storm in action:

Start at 0:53

Ah, I’m happy to inform everyone that I am still alive and now my skin is sparkling…which is kinda concerning. But anyways, here’s Cleansing Storm, a legendary New Era skin and its palette contains silver and gold. To unlock Cleansing Storm, you have to level up your Character Mastery.

Sure, cleansing in this case could just be talking about how rain basically cleans everything it touches, but I think it means something different in Rain’s case. In the mage’s MK1 ending, Rain actually turns himself in and accepts his punishment for the terrible things he has done. Rain truly feels guilty and wants to be forgiven for his crimes, so in a way, he wishes to be cleansed of his sins.

#6: Zeffeero

Wow, I forgot all about Zeffeero!

Zeffeero in action:

Start at 1:13

Mortal Kombat 1 is really pulling out all kinds of characters from the 3D era, including this reference to Zeffeero! But let me introduce the first of the Union of Light skins for this list called Zeffeero, a common skin with blue and purple in its palette. To unlock Zeffeero, you have to level up your Character Mastery.

Zeffeero was a character seen in Mortal Kombat: Deception, where he was an overlord ruling over the city of Lei Chen. In the game’s Konquest Mode, the protagonist Shujinko is sent by Zeffeero to ask for help from Seido, the Realm of Order, when his city is attacked. But Shujinko ends up handing over control of Lei Chen to the leader of the Seidan Guard in order to get their help, and this led to Zeffeero being stripped of his title as overlord.

#7: Master of Flow

The only thing that needs to be flowing is this mage’s luscious locks!

Master of Flow in action:

Start at 1:18

You know, for a guy who can control water, Rain doesn’t really know how to go with the flow. Despite that, we have Master of Flow, a common Union of Light skin and its palette has blue, white, and gold. To unlock Master of Flow, you have to level up your Character Mastery.

Of course when it comes to the flow of water, Rain is a master indeed. He can make a simple, slow stream or a high beam of water that can seriously injure his opponents. And let’s not forget how Rain can make even bubbles a deadly weapon, which would be funny if it wasn’t so disturbing.

#8: Tears of Edenia

As someone who adores red, this skin does bring a tear to my eye

Tears of Edenia in action:

Start at 1:23

I do hate that Edenia isn’t a realm anymore, but hey, at least Outworld in Mortal Kombat 1 looks just as gorgeous as Edenia did! Tears of Edenia is another common Union of Light skin for Rain with a palette of red and black. To unlock Tears of Edenia, you have to level up your Character Mastery.

Edenia is the realm Jerrod and Sindel ruled over in previous timelines before it was merged with Outworld by Shao Kahn. Of course, the couple is still ruling over a realm as seen in Mortal Kombat 1, but it’s Outworld instead of Edenia since, as I said before, Edenia no longer exists. However, Edenians have now become a native race of Outworld, so I guess Edenia lives on in the hearts of its former natives.

#9: Sudden Ignition

Rain, you might want to use your powers now because you are on fire with this skin!

Sudden Ignition in action:

Start at 1:30

Now that I think about it, can Rain actually make acid rain with his powers? I know that seems like a random thought, but I’ll explain as I talk about Sudden Ignition, a common Union of Light skin that has a palette with red and gold. There are no specific requirements needed to obtain Sudden Ignition as you can get it from the Shrine or purchase it from the store.

Ignition itself is the process of burning something, and acid rain is caused by the burning of coal and fossil fuels. The title for the skin above reminded me of that, and that is why I mentioned acid rain before. And considering how many characters in Mortal Kombat wield fire, maybe Rain could use that to his advantage…

#10: Water Wielder

Yeah…hydromancers wield water…duh

Water Wielder in action:

Start at 1:33

Well, seeing that Rain is a master hydromancer, it’s only fitting that we end this list with a skin called Water Wielder! This legendary skin is also part of the Union of Light category and its palette contains silver and gold. To unlock Water Wielder, you have to level up your Character Mastery.

I really do wonder if Rain’s mother has water powers like her son. After all, the rest of the mage’s known family, in the former timeline that is, are pyromancers. Not only that, but I’m also wondering if Taven and Daegon, the sons of Argus and Delia, also exist in this timeline along with their half-brother.

With all his traitorous and terrible actions that we saw in Mortal Kombat 1’s story, Most would say that Rain doesn’t deserve to have all these awesome skins for himself (or to be redeemed, but we’re thinking about the important things here). But after seeing his MK1 ending, I think the Rain of Mortal Kombat’s current timeline might have a chance to be better. Even more so because the mage was actually a good person before being influenced by Shang Tsung! So, how about cutting Rain some slack and get his cool MK1 skins okay?
