What Are The Best FF14 DPS Jobs?

A brand-spanking new cinematic trailer for the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV expansion has arrived and a new adventure awaits. But before the new expansion arrives in the summer, let's look at the top three FFXIV DPS jobs as of 2019.

Today we are pulling these rankings off damage numbers based on real player logs in Omega: Alphascape (Savage) and choosing the classes with the highest overall damage.

These rankings are certainly interchangeable when factors such as utility and flexibility are considered, but for now we will just be looking at pure damage output.

So, without further ado, let's start our ranking of the DPS stars of FFXIV.

If you aren't careful in Savage, you'll surely get spanked.

3. Summoner

Lower damage is offput by utility. Acutally, they do a lot of damage still.

Summoners are number three on the list, but that doesn't mean that they're a pushover at all. With their complex kit of damage-over-time spells (DOTS), ability to summon Bahamut, and host of cuddly and deadly pets, the high damage and fun of the Summoner will surely keep the raid bosses away.

Why You Should Play This Job:

Summoner is a top tier caster job in FFXIV at the moment, and although it is a little overshadowed by the Black Mage in terms of damage, it will surely not disappoint in terms of raid damage utility and flexibility.

It's definitely ranked in the more difficult of classes to play due to the constant Aetherflow, DOT, Bahamut and Pet management, but a successful summoner should find this process very rewarding when done right.

Of course, making a few individual mistakes here and there with the Summoner won't ruin your chances of putting out silly amounts of damage during a raid. If your character has a spell book in hand (or doesn’t yet) and you’re itching for something to try out, give the Summoner a try.

2. Samurai

The beast from the east.

Samurai, Samurai, Samurai. The mere word invokes the imagery of the powerful, katana-wielding warriors of ancient days, and in FFXIV they are of no exception quite the powerhouse. While the overall group utility that the Samurai presents is somewhat lacking in comparison to other melee DPS jobs, the high damage output is a welcome addition to any group.

Why You Should Play This Job:

The Samurai job outputs a high amount of damage while being considerably simpler to play than classes such as the Ninja. That of course doesn’t mean that playing a Samurai will be a snooze-fest, at the highest difficulties, proper utilization of the Samurai will require patience and practice. Damage is the name of the game for Samurai, everything in their kit revolves around doing damage, and for the most part, buffs to help your team out are non-existent. A selfish job, made for the lone wolves of FFXIV; I believe the design choice fits quite well with the jobs namesake.

1. Black Mage

Power, unlimited power! Explosion!

Rounding out the summit of DPS stars in Omega: Alphascape (Savage) is the one and only, wielder of destructive, devastating and dastardly dark magic, Black Mage. (Did somebody say Explosion?!) Anything that stands in the way of Black Mage will only be there for a moment; once those spells start casting and charging, not much can face the onslaught of arcane abilities that will soon follow.

Why You Should Play This Job:

Do you like being the highest single-target damage dealer in the game hands down? Do you also like having possibly the best sustained, Area-of-Effect (AOE) damage in the game as well? If so, this is the class for you.

While there many not be as many spells to cast in comparison to other jobs, each spell definitely feels more impactful and groundbreaking on average. This of course doesn’t mean you can just lay back and slack on the job. Poor management of the Black Mage’s global cooldown abilities will spell disaster for the Black Mage in terms of damage.

You definitely don’t want to be a Black Mage who isn’t topping the damage charts in your group!
