Demon Slayer has some amazing, and unique characters. From crazed demons to a boy who taught himself breathing techniques while living alone in the forest. But who are the best characters seen so far in the anime and why?

This article focused only on the anime to reduce any spoilers for those who haven’t read the manga. There will still be some spoilers for each character, however, so be warned. 

10. Inosuke Hashibira

Inosuke Hashibira is one of the four main protagonists in Demon Slayer. Though he has had no formal training, he has managed to create Beast Breathing and teach himself Total Concentration Breathing all on his own. 

He has  shown himself to be more than capable of holding his own against demons. Despite his harsh personality, he is protective of his friends and will stand up against any demons harming them. His tenacity and unpredictability make him a frightening and awesome opponent. 

9. Zenitsu Agatsuma

Zenitsu might be a scardy-cat, but he will defend his friends to his last breath

Zenitsu is also a main protagonist. He has amazing hearing and speed. However, his combat skills aren’t readily apparent. At least, not until he is asleep. 

When his crippling fears are gone, such as when he is sleeping, Zenitsu has incredible  abilities. He can easily hold his own against demons as much as Tanjiro or Inosuke. 

He faced harsh training from his grandfather and endured many hardships. He still strives to do his best to help people that don’t have the strength to protect themselves, despite his own fears.

8. Yahaba

Such an interesting fight scene, and his power is awesome

We only see him for a short amount of time, but Yahaba was a skilled and dedicated follower of the leader of demons, Muzen. He has an awesome ability as a demon that lets him control movements with invisible arrows that come from the eyeballs in his hands. 

He does get defeated early on, but he is a very interesting demon that would have been neat to see more of down the line. 

7. Tamayo

We can't forget the only demon who has managedto break free from Muzen's power on her own

Tamayo isn’t someone that has been seen a lot in the anime so far, which is a shame. In the manga, her role is much bigger, especially down the road. She is a demon who has managed to gain back her humanity, despite still being a demon, and is now fighting against Muzen, which is not easy for any demon to do. Tamayo is someone that could be very useful to Tanjio, as he is trying to figure out how to save Nezuko.

Her abilities as a demon are awesome as well. She can create floral illusions to distract anyone, and can also make people loosen their tongue, as we saw during the fight with Yahaba and Susamaru. 

She is definitely a character that could be vital to the story, and will hopefully appear again soon.

6. Akaza

We will definitely see more of him later in the show

Akaza is seen in the Demon Slayer movie: Mugen Train. He is one of the upper-ranked demons and won when fighting against the main protagonists and Rengoku. He uses only his bare fists, and his Blood Demon Art to fight. 

His will is what makes him number six on our most awesome Demon Slayer characters. He can resist being sliced by blades and can regenerate almost instantly, even more so than other demons. Akaza is also passionate about those that are powerful. If he meets an opponent that has the strength he admires, he offers them the ability to become a demon, to preserve that strength forever. 

After he defeated Rengoku, he ran away and managed to survive. I can’t wait to see how he will appear again.

5.  Shinobu Kocho

Smart, and a little wicked, Shinobu is an interesting Hashira

Shinobu is a rather small and physically weak demon slayer. Despite her weaknesses though, she has managed to climb the ladder and become the insect Hashira. This is due to her awesome intelligence. She is also fast and nimble due to her size and often uses this to her advantage. 

She knows her weaknesses well. Instead of slicing off the heads of demons, which is the most common killing method, she has a modified weapon that  injects them with a wisteria cocktail, which is lethal to demons. 

Her personality is also a bit of a mystery, as she seems to want to work with demons and find peace with them, but does not hesitate to kill any demons she comes across. 

4. Tanjiro Kamado

Tanjiro has a heart of gold, and the perserverance to save everyone

Tanjiro is the main character of Demon Slayer. He returned home one day to find his family had been slain by a demon, and his sister, Nezuko, turned into a demon herself. He begins his journey in search of a way to save her. Despite knowing little about the outside world, and having no experience using a weapon, he learns quickly.

Though his skills are amazing, and he has incredible strength, what really makes him deserving to be number four on our awesome list is his passion. Not only is he determined to trust his sister, even as a demon, he somehow manages to convince people who hate demons and make it their mission to kill them to trust Nezuko as well.

3. Giyu Tomioka

Giyu might seem cold, but he is willing to put his life on the line to stand up for people

Giyu is a passionate man who is deeply protective of the people he is close to. He is also incredibly powerful, as seen by his ability to become a Hashira. He is a master of the water-breathing technique. 

His grief and guilt are subtle features on the outside, but they are the very core of his being. We learn that he was friends with the two spirits that helped Tanjiro train, and the half of the uniform he wears represents them. 

However, the aspect of Giyu that makes him awesome is the fact that he is willing to lay his life on the line to protect Nezuko and Tanjiro, as long as she doesn’t eat or injure any humans. His loyalty is fierce and he doesn’t hesitate in showing that. 
 

2. Kyojuro Rengoku

Rengoku was a man that knew his limits, and knew when to go beyond them

Rengoku has a very overbearing personality and is generally very loud. At first, he seems to be mostly brawn. However, we learn more about him as Mugen Train progresses and we learn that he is very dedicated to using his strength to help the weak. 

He is also incredibly fast, physically and mentally. He will change his mind quickly when presented with new facts, such as learning more about Nezuko. 

Unlike most demon slayers, he seems to not inherently hate demons. Instead, it is their morals clashing with his own that leads him to kill demons. 

His fight with Akaza shows why he is number two on the awesome list. He is willing to fight until his last breath and doesn’t give up until everyone is safe, even if that means dying. 

1. Nezuko Kamado

With a mix of cute and awesome, Nezuko has to be number one

Nezuko is number one on the list for many reasons, and is obviously the best girl. She fought hard to be more than just a mindless demon, refusing to eat humans even as she is injured. Unlike other demons that need to eat humas to heal, she manages to survive by sleeping a lot. Even when one of the Hashira severely injures her and tempts him with his blood, she refuses to injure anyone. 

She is also fiercely protective of her brother, Tanjiro. While he spends his time trying to find a cure, she grows stronger to protect him and help him fight. The battle she is constantly fighting, mentally and physically, makes her the most awesome character in Demon Slayer.
