Wheater you like it or hate it, Assassin’s Creed has definitely made an impact on the gaming world. It revolutionized the way we look at action, exploration, and storytelling in video games. It gave us the freedom to explore, different ways to complete a mission and the ability to hide in plain sight. And let’s not forget about that sweet parkour system. The ability to climb a tall building and traverse the rooftops of ancient cities is the trademark of an AC game.  But with so many games under its belt, which one do I play? Here are my top 10 picks of Assassin’s Creed games that still hold today.

#10: Assassin’s Creed: Unity

AC: Unity is the story of Arno, a young man who lives amidst the French revolution. Embark on a journey to uncover the powers behind the Revolution.  Stop the Templars from taking over France. For the first time ever we get full customization of our character. Change how your protagonist looks and plays. Different ways to complete a mission, whether you want to go quietly as a mouse or charge head first. The choice is yours. Complete the mission alone or call your friends in the all-new 4 player co-op.

#9: Assassins Creed 3

Play as Connor, a young Native American assassin who fights to protect his land and people.  Fight the Redcoats and help The Americans free themselves from the oppression of the British crown. Explore the big colonial cities or the terrifying frontier. Hunt animals and use their furs and meat to improve your equipment. With the help of the new combat system help George Washington to defeat the Redcoats. For the first time in an AC game, we get the excellent naval combat. Fight the British, plunder their ships in order to improve The Aquila.

Connor, armed with his trusty tomahawk and bow, fights for the liberation of his people from the English. Use everything at your disposal to drive the Redcoats home. 

Experience the first naval combat system in an AC game. Upgrade your ship and improve your ability to command your vessel as you take on the British navy and its mighty warships.

#8: Assassin’s Creed: Revelations

The final chapter in the Ezio’s saga. Follow him as he travels to The Ottoman Empire in search of Altair’s diary. Along the way, he discovers that the Byzantine, an order of fanatics, wishes to overthrow the Sultan and restore the Byzantine Empire. It is up to you to stop them. You get a new Hook Blade which you get to use not only in combat but also traversing the rooftops of Istanbul. We also get something called Den defense. Here you get to command your assassins as you defend your dens against waives and waives of Byzantine attackers.

Older and more grizzled Ezio fighting the Templars. Equipped with new weapons and new equipment like the Hook Blade and all the skills he acquired over the years he takes the fight to their doorsteps.

In select parts of the game, you get to play as Altair. Revisit ancient Israel and witness the conclusion to Altair’s story and how he got to be one of the most famous Assassins. 

#7: Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate

London,1868. Play as brother and sister assassins, Jacob and Eve Frye. Follow them as they travel to London to put a stop to the tyranny of Crawford Starrick, the Grand Master of The Templars. Help them liberate London from The Templars, who wish to exploit the weak and poor all in the name of progress. Change between Jacob and Eve at will. Explore London via horse carnages, or use the new rope launcher to traverse great distances at ease. Built your army as you try to take over the underworld and put a stop to the Templars plans.   

Sibling Jacob and Eve fight against the oppression of the weak and poor in the name of progress. Each with their own idea of how they should die with the situation. Take control of either of them and explore London wheatear by foot or by carriage.

With the addition of the rope launcher, exploring the world of Assassin’s Creed is the fastest one yet. Use this new gadget will traversing the rooftops of London or indoors as you explore one of the huge buildings in this massive city.

#6: Assassin’s Creed: Rogue

 Rogue is the darkest installment to date. Playing as Shay Cormac, you will experience the transformation from an Assassin to Assassin Hunter.  After witnessing that the Assassins aren’t what he thought that they were, he goes on a mission to stop them before they hurt anyone else. Using the skills that he acquired in his year's training as an Assassin, along with some new toys like the rifle gun, he tries to bring an end to the Assassins Brotherhood. Use your new ship, The Morrigan, to travel across River Valley and the North Sea. Experience the story of the AC games but through the eyes of The Templars.

Shay uses the skills that the Assasins gave him to bring them down. You get to liberate strongholds from the Assasins, intercept assassination contracts and disrupt their plans. Use your ship, The Morrigan, to wrestle control of the seas and plunder enemy ships.

Fight your former brothers with the help of the newly acquired rifle. In addition to shooting bullets, you are also able to launch grenades filled with shrapnel or sleeping gas. 

#5: Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood

The second game of The Ezio saga, Brotherhood takes us to the capital of Italy, Rome. Follow Ezio as he learns that a new thread has emerged, Cesare Borgia. Try to put a stop to this mad man who wishes to use The Apple of Eden to take control of all of Italy. But you won’t be alone in this fight. For the first time ever you are able to recruit follower and train them to become assassins. Send them on a mission across Europe or use them to help you to liberate Rome from The Borgia.

With improved gameplay and graphics, Brotherhood takes the Ezio saga to a new level. Now you have more gadgets and weapons at your disposal.  You can call your assassins with a push of a button in order to come and help you in the heat of battle.

For the first time ever we get multiplayer mode. Go online and fight against other people. Blend in the crowds or scout from afar as you try to locate and kill other players, all while trying to not get killed yourself.

#4: Assassin’s Creed: Origins

Go all the way back to ancient Egypt. Witness the beginnings of the Assassins. Play as Bayek, a man set on a mission to avenge the death of his son.  Fight against the Order of The Ancient, a group of people seeking the artifacts of Isu in order to achieve peace for mankind under their rule. Roam around the vast ancient lands of Egypt. The gameplay is more organic than ever before. You have to explore and discover in order to get a mission, they aren’t handed out to you like previous games. We have a completely new way to fight. Loot and use dozens of different weapons with different characteristics and rarities.  Explore the deep progression mechanic and challenge your skills against powerful bosses.

With the new combat mechanics, you have to be more calculating and careful. Gone are the times where you wait in one spot and spam the counter button. Here you have to be agile and nimble. You have to move around your enemies, flanking them and exposing weak points that you can use to put them out of their misery.

As you complete missions and dispatch enemies, you get skill points which you can use in three different skill trees to make Bayek more powerful.

#3: Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey

Chose your fate in the newest game from Ubisoft. Pick whether you play a male or a female character. From a Spartan outcast to a living legend, embark on a personal odyssey across ancient Greece in order to stop an evil cult from rising to power. Sail across the Aegean sea, visit gorgeous islands and scale ancient temples and mountains. Fight in an epic battle between Sparta and Athens. Kick people of a cliff, Spartan style. With the improved RPG system, you get more deep customization than ever before. Chose between different dialog options who have different outcomes. You can even romance other characters. The world is yours to do as you please.

Choose between Cassandra and Alexios, a Spartan outcast who wishes to make a name for him/herself. Along the way meet interesting characters, fight against mythical creatures and even romance some of the characters.

In Odyssey, you can face against mythical creatures like Medusa, The Minotaur, and many others.

Assassin’s Creed 2 is an epic story of family, vengeance, and conspiracy set in Renaissance Italy. Witness the beginning of Ezio Auditore da Firenze, from a young Italian noble to becoming one of the greatest Assassins who ever lived.  After his family is betrayed and murdered by the enigmatic Rodrigo Borgia, Ezio goes on a quest to stop him from obtaining the Apple of Eden, which he wants to use it to unite mankind under the rule of The Templars. Almost 10 years old, AC 2 is still fun to play. With its gripping storyline and revolutionary gameplay, it still holds its place as one of the best games from the franchise.

With each mission different from the last, in AC 2 you will never get bored. Whether you are following someone and gathering information or flying around Venice in Da Vinci’s airplane, repetition is not something that you will encounter in this game.

#1: Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag

Have you ever wanted to be a pirate, to be able to take control of your own ship and explore the Caribbean Sea? Well, now you can. Sail across the high seas as Edward Kenway, a man seeking riches and fame. Along the way, he stumbles across two factions who have been in war with each other for centuries, The Assassins and The Templars. Help the Assassins with their fight against The Templars. Find the Observatory before the Order does and use it for their own personal gain. Wrestle the seas with you ship, The Jackdaw. Board and plunder enemy ships. Dive in the ocean or run across the jungles in search of hidden treasures. Collect gold and resources and use them to upgrade your equipment and your ship.  

In Black Flag you get to play as Edward, a man in pursuit in riches and fame. Build your crew of scallywags and conquer the seven seas. Meet famous pirates like Blackbeard and Charles Vane. Capture enemy ships and liberate outpost. Hunt whales and other sea creatures in order to upgrade yourself and your ship.

In Black Flag, in addition to fighting the Templars, you get to fight the British and Spain as you try to liberate Nassau and make it a safe haven for pirates.
