The Phoenix is a famous creature, both inside and outside of Ark. The legendary bird reborn from its ashes is capable of more than raw power. It has an incredible harvesting efficiency for sulfur, sand, and raw salt, and it doesn’t disappoint either when it comes to metal, flint, or crystal! 

Taming a Phoenix is playing with fire. It can be tamed using particular strategies that include: flame arrows, oil jars, ember crystal wyvern, flamethrower, and the most efficient of them all, the Fire Wyvern.

• While it doesn’t compare to the classic Anky, the Phoenix still has a 3-star gain per action for crystal gathering 
• Crystals can be found at the top of mountains, so a flying tame, especially an unbeatable one, like the Phoenix, is always welcomed

4. Tek Stryder 

As technology advances in real life, Ark manages to keep itself one step ahead. The Tek Stryder is an incredibly useful herbivore. It’s more than an efficient crystal gatherer, it’s a universal tool, with multiple attachments and platforms that prepare it for any possible event. 

Regarding taming, a combination of hacking skills, mutagel, and certain missions cleared are requested. It’s not impossible, but taming this mechanical brilliance is not a piece of cake. Enjoy the hacking minigame and experiment with all its rigs, platform, transmitter, and sleeping pod after the process is done.

3. Mantis 

Both frightening and fascinating, the Mantis reaches the top 3 on our list for the best crystal gatherer. This creature is quite aggressive, with powerful attacks and many uses as a tame. It usually spawns in packs within desert dunes and caves. When it comes to Flint, it has the best mining efficiency out there, compared with Dunky and Ankylo. If you intend to tame this creature, get some bug repellant and Deathworm Horns/Wolly Rhino Horns. 

What makes the Mantis great for Crystal: 

• It has the highest efficiency for gathering flint, thatch, mutagel, and silicate. Fast and agile, it can move quickly and fill its inventory with amazing amounts of flint in no time! 
• The Mantis is a utility gatherer. It can be equipped with a pick or sickle to get all the resources you need. Have fun and use the metal pick while riding the Mantis to gather as much flint as you wish! 
• Because it can equip tools, the Mantis can also be used for mining in the dark, as it can hold a torch and enlighten the way. 
• When you’re done mining, equip it with a sword and enjoy the show! The Mantis will surely protect your resources, as it’s a fearless combatant that can even inflict torpor when needed.

2. Dunkleosteus

We are getting closer and closer to the top. If you ask any Ark player about mining crystal, the answer will be the same: get a Dunky or an Ankylo! Why? Primarily due to their exceptional mining efficiency and weight reduction for crystals, stones, and metals

The Dunkleosteus is a large creature swimming in the deepest parts of the ocean. With powerful, deadly jaws, it’s excellent as both a battle mount and a gatherer, reaching underwater cave nodes. A knock-out strategy is needed to tame it. Lure it into a cave and inflict torpor using a riffle. 

What makes the Dunkleosteus great for Crystal: 

• It’s excellent for collecting large amounts of crystal from underwater caves. It has the highest gain per action, being the underwater comparison for mining crystal with the Ankylosaurus. 
• Its 50% weight reduction is probably the biggest advantage. While the Ankylo must be coupled with the Argentavis for efficiently transporting crystal, the Dunkleosteus is both the best miner and transporter for this resource. 
• It’s easier to tame compared to the Mosasaurus, and it’s the only tamable water creature that can break stone structures. Even more, it’s a great battle mount and defender due to its high level of torpor, strong attacks, and armor.

1. Ankylosaurus 

The most efficient dinosaur for getting crystal is, of course, the classic Ankylo. However, if you are playing on Genesis, we have to mention the Brontosaurus and its amazing ability to gather crystals in the Lunar Biome by harvesting Crystal Bushes. 

Getting back to the Ankylosaurus, this dinosaur is known to be easily tamed and extremely efficient in gathering all rocky resources, including stone, metal, and crystal. It is strong as underwater and terrain miner. It also holds strong tail attacks to defend your resources.

What makes the Ankylosaurus great for Crystal: 

• For example, if you play on The Island, Crystal is usually found on the top of the volcano. Get your Ankylosaurus and, with its 100% efficiency and highest gain per action, this dinosaur will fill your storage with crystals instantly. 
• Its saddle is available from as early as level 36, and it’s a rideable and breedable creature. Even more, because of its slow movement, it’s easy to tame it using a KO strategy, so it’s the perfect dinosaur for Early-Game, though you will surely use it in the Mid-Game too. 
• Combine the Anky with the Argentavis. The Argentavis has a 50% weight reduction for crystal, and it can carry the Ankylosaurus over the top of mountains filled with stone, metal, and crystal. This is probably the easiest way to mine these resources.
