Buying League of Legends Accounts Is Not Safe

You Know the Pros, But Do You Know the Cons?

Some people for various reasons purchase pre-leveled League of Legends accounts from players or companies who sell those accounts.

Buying an already-leveled account comes with many advantages, such as skipping the time it takes to level a new account to 30. However, buying an account also comes with some significant risks.

The Riot Terms of Service Explicitly Forbids Purchasing Accounts

Riot doesn’t want players selling and buying pre-leveled accounts.

For security reasons, Riot prefers for one player to have one account. Riot Games’ states that buying and selling League of Legends accounts is against their Terms of Service.

Players caught buying and selling accounts have in the past been permanently banned from playing League of Legends.

Not All Sellers Are Trustworthy

As with any not-quite-above-board activity, sometimes the so-called “sellers” are out to make more than their fair share of the profit on the transaction.

There have been occasions in which after selling the account to the consumer, the seller lodges a complaint with Riot for account recovery, claiming someone has taken over their account.

Sometimes, sellers scam the buyers, and buyers have no one to help get their money back.

Basically what happens is the seller gets their account back from you, and then they also keep the money you paid. How are you supposed to report to Riot that someone stole your money for making a purchase that is explicitly against their Terms of Service? You risk banning for reporting the injustice.

So, Is Buying a League Account Safe? Not Quite

It’s definitely not “safe” to purchase a League of Legends account—unless you’re comfortable risking being banned from the game for life.

Even so, that doesn’t stop some people. The League of Legends black market account continues to thrive to this day.
