Get ready to battle some aliens 

Look at the gaming industry 5 years ago and you will see that there were not a lot of Alien games. And the few that were present lacked innovation, originality and a good storyline. The overall experience was not good.

Fast forward to 2016, and you`ll see a plethora of Alien games, some of which are brilliant. But it becomes confusing and intimidating to choose the right game for you. That`s why I am here to help you. Today I present you the 10 best alien games that you can play in 2016.

10. XCOM Series

At last a game with full female armor

XCOM : Enemy Unknown

Earth is under an unknown extraterrestrial threat. Earth`s governments have united and gathered some of the best mercenaries to form a paramilitary organization, XCOM. You are the commander of XCOM and it is now up to you to fend off the alien attack.

XCOM : Enemy Within

Enemy Within is actually an expansion pack for XCOM : Enemy unknown. It adds new gameplay features, such as a new enemy –Exalt and new tech to create superhuman soldiers. Several new weapons are also introduced.

XCOM 2

It`s been 20 years since the world leaders surrendered to the aliens. And XCOM, Earth`s last line of defense, has been defeated. Aliens took over Earth and developed a civilization of their own, ruling over humans. Only humans living on the edges of Earth have a little freedom. Now it is your task to rebuild Xcom and fight against the aliens for humanity.

The game is set in 2035, and is a sequel to XCOM : Enemy unknown. The game was released on 5th feb 2016 and is a masterpiece due to its kind of revenge storyline, innovative combat mechanics and a plethora of new aliens. The game, overall, is fun to play and a must try alien game in 2016.

9. Dead Space Series

The game is set in year 2508 and starts off when USG Ishimura a planetcracker starship sends a distress signal to Concordance Extraction Corporation (CEC) during an operation on planet Aegis. CEC dispatches the USG kellion to investigate, which due to system malfunction crashes on the Ishimura rock. As you explore your way through the area, you find out that the annihilation of the crew of USG Ischimura was due to the red marker, which is the basis of necromorph outbreak. Now you must find the marker and bring an end to the necromorphs.

Dead Space 2

The game is set 3 years after the original game in the asylum of the sprawl, a space station surrounding shard of Titan, one of Saturn`s moon. You will find yourself, with no memory of the past, in a necromorph outbreak. What you do know is that a woman has the cure to your memory loss. And the sprawl administrator, Tiedemann, is trying to create a new marker using the info encoded in your brain. You set out to regain the marker, destroy it and get your memory back.   

Dead Space 3

The game is set 200 years after dead space 2 on the frozen planet of Tau Volantis. You and John Carver will team up to destroy the necromorph threat once and for all. Telling anymore about the story will be a spoiler. So, we advise you to play the game for yourself and find out.

In all three of the installments you will play as Isaac Clarke, the protagonist. This is a survival horror game. And is a must play for people looking for good alien games.

8. The Bureau: XCOM Declassified

Hey, who kidnapped me?

The U.S president authorizes the formation of Bureau of Strategic Emergency Command, which begins investigating and concealing a series of mysterious attacks by aliens. As a special agent, you must make careful decisions and lead your squad into the war against the aliens to defend the human race.

This game is also one of the installments in the XCOM series, but it follows a completely different protagonist and setting. It is set in late 1962, when the cold war between U.S and the soviet union is at its peak. You are playing as a special agent, William Carter. The game enjoys all the combat features of the XCOM series along with a few extra ones like a tactical pause mode. This game is highly recommended if you have finished the original XCOM series and are looking for some more XCOM love.

7. Aliens: Colonial Marines

Is it the gun or is the alien breathing fire?

During the events of Alien, the movie (link to movie), Carter J. Burke managed to send a distress signal to you, confirming the presence of a xenomorph species on a far away planet which an operation was commencing. It is now your duty to lead an investigation crew to investigate the species and recover the sole survivor, if possible.

This game is a direct sequel to the James Cameron Film, Aliens. And takes place 17 weeks after the events of Aliens 3. It features tight combat mechanics, amazing level design and an awesome soundtrack. If you liked the Alien movies, then this game is a must play.

6. Alien Swarm

What if the alien comes from the back?

Alien Swarm is a free to play multiplayer co-op game. It originally appeared as a mod for the unreal tournament 4. But due to the mods popularity, valve hired the team behind the mod and made it into a stand-alone game. You will have to save your base from a swarm of aliens using the wide variety of weapons available. The game is played in a top down perspective.

The game features 4 player co-op or friend squads. There is a robust leveling system which lets you unlock new items. You can choose from a range of 40 unique weapons, along with any of the 8 unique characters from 4 unique classes.

5. Aliens vs. Predator (2010)

So, the predators are the most powerful?

The Aliens vs Predators franchise is a well-known one. There are 2 AVP movies and 3 total games. The games were pretty bland until the 2010 reboot came along. Aliens vs Predators (2010) is basically a multiplayer co-op game in which you can play as a marine, alien or a predator against your friends or online.

The game also has a single player campaign and you have the same three classes to play with. Each of the three classes has unique abilities and a unique gameplay. The game has a superb atmospheric setting and innovative gameplay which make it a must play game, more so if you like the Aliens vs Predator movies.

4.  Natural Selection 2

As a marine you rely on guns and try to take out aliens from afar

Natural Selection 2 is another online multiplayer team oriented video game. You are free to choose any of the two teams, either the marines or the aliens. Gameplay is unique to each of the team. The marine team heavily relies on guns and ranged weapons to annihilate the aliens. While, the aliens basically use melee attacks and have special abilities. Some aliens can fly, walk on walls or dash in any direction in the blink of eye.

The most unique part of the game is that it combines FPS and real-time strategy. One of the players on each team plays as the commander and is given a top down perspective of the map. He then visualizes the situation and helps his teammates form a strategy to destroy the other team. If you are into FPS or strategy games, then you must try this one.

3. Evolve

So, which side are you on?

This game is set in a fictional future, where humans are able to survive outside Earth and start colonizing different planets. Soon enough humans come across an alien life form which can “Evolve” by consuming wild life. When this alien life form, called monsters, attack a planet colonized by humans, you must deal with the situation and save as many survivors as possible.

This is basically a 5 player co-op game, in which 4 players play as hunters and 1 player as the monster. Hunters must work as a team and take down the monster. You can play with your friends, online or against AI. The game has an awesome atmospheric setting and the abilities of each of the monster are quite unique which makes it a must play alien game in 2016.

2. Saints Row IV

All aboard the wilderness car

The overlord Zinyak and his alien empire has invaded Earth and captured and imprisoned the president of the United States. You will play as the president and save yourself from the imprisonment and then try to save humanity from the aliens.

This is the wildest open world game I`ve ever played. Period.  The game offers some of the strangest weapons and powers in any game. Combine that with an engaging storyline and unique gameplay and you`ve got one of the best alien games ever created.

1. Alien Isolation

Where are his eyes?

Set 15 years after the events of the movie, alien. You will play as Amanda, daughter of Ellen Ripley. Your task is to find your missing mother. During the find for clues, you learn of a flight recorder on a space station that might have hints to where your mother is. But the station has an alien onboard. You must avoid the alien and retrieve the recorder to find out what happened to your mother, Ellen Ripley.

This is, by far, one of the best sequels to the Alien movie. It is set in 2137, 15 years after the events of the movie. The game has the best gameplay I have ever seen in any survival horror game. There`s a lot of thrill playing the game, and the game is a lot of fun to play, you must give it a go no matter you like the alien movies or not.
