Kingdom Hearts 3 Abilities: Top 10 KH3 Abilities To Get First

Kingdom Hearts 3 Abilities
I wonder what abilities everyone has equipped...

Having trouble deciding what abilities to get or equip?

That's totally understandable. There are so, so many abilities in this game, and all of them are pretty awesome.

Read on to discover the top 10 abilities you can get early in the game. (Images for all of these abilities are in the image gallery, so don't forget to check that out, too!)

10. Burst Shot

Sora using Burst Shot.

This is an action ability that you can get pretty early in the game. It can be used with the Double Arrowguns and Honey Blasters formchanges. Double Arrowguns is a formchange of the Shooting Star keyblade, while Honey Blasters is the formchange for the Honey Spout keyblade. You can get both of these relatively early in the game, and burst shot will be a helpful ability as you progress.

Why is Burst Shot Awesome?

Projectiles

This ability allows you to launch a barrage of projectiles at enemies. Projectiles are great if you are surrounded by enemies and fighting one on one isn’t feasible. Another great time to use burst shot is when you can't get too close to enemies. There are a lot of bosses that you’ll have to keep your distance from, so this ability will be especially helpful during those.

Slowdown Effect

When you use the burst shot ability with the Honey Blasters, an enemy that is hit by one of your projectiles will be afflicted with the slowdown honey status effect. If you're struggling against enemies, having them move more slowly will be incredibly helpful during battle.

No AP

It costs no AP at all to equip this ability. That means you can spend that AP somewhere else!

9. Sliding Shot

Sora using Sliding Shot

This is another action ability that is exclusive to the Double Arrowguns and the Honey Blasters. Since you can get these keyblades pretty early in the game, it's a great idea to do so and to take advantage of this ability.

Why is Sliding Shot Awesome?

Projectiles

This ability is also one where you get to launch projectiles at your enemies. Again, projectiles are absolutely amazing for fighting at a distance or fighting multiple targets at once. In KH3, you're constantly up against hordes of Heartless and giant bosses that you don't need to get super close to, so this is the perfect ability to have equipped.

Playing Offense and Defense

This is an ability that perfectly balances offense and defense. While using sliding shot, you can utilize a dodge slide to avoid enemies’ attacks while still launching projectiles at them. It’s also great for hordes and pesky bosses.

Slowdown Effect

Because this is an ability that comes with the Hunny Blasters, you’ll also be able to automatically utilize the slowdown honey status effect to force your enemies to move more slowly. This gives you another advantage, free of charge.

8. Auto-Shot

Sora using Auto Shot

This is yet another action ability brought to you by Double Arrowguns and Hunny Blasters. This one is focused primarily on offense, as opposed to balancing offense and defense. Therefore, it's pretty heavily offensive.

Why is Auto-Shot Awesome?

Continuous Projectiles

This is another projectile ability. However, this one allows you to continuously fire projectiles at enemies. Not having to pause between shots could really be the difference between Sora getting hit and Sora defeating an enemy.

Third-Person Shooter

Utilizing this ability briefly turns the game into a third-person shooter. The camera moves over Sora's shoulder and you use the right analog stick to adjust aim. If you’re a fan of third-person shooters, now you can get the best of both worlds!

7. Flame Barrage

Sora using Flame Barrage

This action ability is exclusive to the Frying Pan formchange of the Grand Chef keyblade. You get this keyblade after leveling Le Grand Bistrot up to five stars. This isn't required by the storyline, so it's going to be a little bit of a side quest for you. It will definitely be worth it, though!

Why is Flame Barrage Awesome?

Flame Attacks

As you might have guessed, this ability allows you to attack your enemies with bursts of flames. The damage dealt by these flames can be increased by using Reprisal Boost.

Flying

Unfortunately, Sora will not fly with this ability. However, when he attacks enemies with his flames, those flames will knock the Heartless back and send them flying through the air. This will put them further away from Sora and buy you some time during battle.

6. Final Impact

Sora in Final Impact Mode

This action ability is a default with the Magic Launcher and Hunny Launcher formchanges. As you might be able to guess, the Hunny Launcher comes from the Honey Spout keyblade, but the Magic Launcher comes from the Shooting Star keyblade, which you get after completing Twilight Town. That means you can start utilizing this ability pretty early in the game.

Why is Final Impact Awesome?

More Projectiles!

This is another projectile ability, but this one is a little bit different than the previous ones. When Sora launches these projectiles, they cause a huge blast that could take out multiple enemies. It can also be used in a three-hit combo; in this case, the finisher shot will be even stronger than the others.

More Slowdown Effect!

Again, we're seeing the slowing effect, but this time it's with the Hunny Launcher. If an enemy is hit by the blast from a projectile, they'll be slowed down. Slow enemies are way better than fast enemies.

5. Drill Pillars

Sora using Drill Pillars

This is one of my favorite abilities. It’s exclusive to Drill Punch (Favorite Deputy) and Clock Drill (Classic Tone). Now, you won't be able to get the Classic Tone keyblade until much later in the game, but you'll acquire Favorite Deputy after completing Toy Box, so you can use at least one form of the Drill Pillars early in the game.

Why is Drill Pillars Awesome?

Drills from Down Below

When activated, Sora can use Drill Pillars when he's surrounded by enemies. Multiple drills burst forth from the ground beneath the Heartless, causing them to be launched into the air. This will deal physical damage to them.

No AP

Thankfully, this is a default ability for the Drill Punch and Clock Drill formchanges, so you don't have to spend any AP at all to equip it. This means you can use your AP to equip other abilities!

4. Golden Rays

Sora using Golden Rays

This is another one of my favorites, just because it looks really cool. This is an ability that can only be used with the Mirage Staff formchange of the Ever After keyblade. This keyblade is acquired after completing Kingdom of Corona, so you can get it really early in the game.

Why is Golden Rays Awesome?

Crisscrossing Light Weapons

This ability deals damage by sending crisscrossed pillars of light careening towards an enemy. It sounds like an absolutely terrifying last thing to see before you die.

Zero AP

This is another ability that comes as a default with its formchange, so you don't have to waste any AP on it!

3. Focus Syphon

Sora using Focus Syphon

Another personal favorite. There's a specific reason for this favoritism, but I’ll get into that down below. You can get this ability at multiple points throughout the game, but the earliest is in Toy Box. There, you have to beat the Verum Rex: Beat of Lead mini-game with an A-rank to learn it.

Why is Focus Syphon Awesome?

Shotlocks

The biggest thing with this ability is that you're given a special shotlock that you can only use with this ability. I love unlocking special abilities and using special items or weapons.

(No) Focus

Plus, when you use this shotlock, it costs you no Focus. You'll actually draw focus from the enemies that you're locked on to. To be fair, though, you can only use this ability when you run out of Focus. (Psst, this is my favorite detail. I hate using finite things.)

2. Avatar Barrage

Sora using Avatar Barrage

This is such a good ability, and there are so many things about it that make it a good ability. It's used with the Mirage Staff formchange, so it can be used after you finish Kingdom of Corona.

Why Is Avatar Barrage Awesome?

Duplicates?

Having clones of yourself makes things a lot easier, especially in combat. Using this ability, you can create multiple avatars of Sora with Avatar Shift. Then, using Avatar Barrage, the original Sora will lead the charge of avatars in launching projectiles at your enemies.

Oh! And the tenth shot is more powerful than all the others.

Who needs time?

When Avatar Barrage is activated, you are granted permission to finish using the ability, even if the timer for Mirage Staff has ended. No need to worry about having your assault interrupted!

1. Ultimate Finish

Sora using Ultimate Finish with the Mirage Staff

This is going to be the best ability to get and use. It can be activated with a dozen formchanges. Some of these formchanges come with keyblades that can be acquired early in the game, such as Magic Launcher, Drill Punch, and Mirage Staff.

Why is Ultimate Finish Awesome?

Full Potential

When you use this ability, Sora will have access to the formchange’s finisher immediately. Then, when you activate it, the keyblade's full potential is unleashed, so your attacks will become even more powerful.

Variety

All of the other abilities on this list are available only with one or two formchanges, but Ultimate Finish can be utilized with a dozen different keyblades.  You can get some of theseearly in the game, but some are only available later; for others, you’ll have to do special things to get. But you will have access to the Ultimate Finish ability with all of them, and that is super awesome.
