[Top 15] Insurgency: Sandstorm Best Mods

[Top 15] Insurgency: Sandstorm Best Mods
It's moddin time baby!

Is the vanilla game getting boring for you? Are you tired of not receiving updates as often as before? Well, if you are, try joining a custom server with mods! Yes, this game has mod support, and people have created some amazing pieces of work. And the best part about all of this is that it’s completely free.

You can do what you want with mods and create the type of game that you want to play and enjoy, that’s the best part about modding. So if you don’t like what some dude has on his custom server, well, just create your own and invite your buddies to play with you! But enough of my blabbering; let’s get into this article!

15. Custom Scenarios

The only limit here is your imagination!

Here’s a fun mod that you and your friends can enjoy equally. It’s a pretty simple mod, and it allows you to create your scenarios and objectives to win the match. This mod also adds the Operation Coop game mode from another mod.

The operation mode requires you to find hidden objectives and defend the last objective to win. It sounds pretty fun if you can get some homies to play it! You can have unlimited fun with this game mode, and the only limit here is your imagination.

What’s Good About Custom Scenarios:

  • You can create any custom scenario that you can imagine.
  • It gives the game a lot more replayability.
  • It’s way more fun with friends.
  • Adds the operation game mode from another unfinished mod.

14. Mountain Pass

This looks like Insurgency: Sandstorm but set in Skyrim.

The next mod that we have is a custom-made map mod. It’s so damn pretty, and you’ll have fun playing it. It works for PvE and PvP game modes. It’s a checkpoint-type map, though. The map is decorated beautifully, with a village and a mountain pass surrounding it.

There’s a lot of vegetation, and the color pallet of the map is unique. If you install some graphical mods, it’ll make the map even more beautiful. You can add it to your custom server, or you can just launch it with some of your homies to play against bots!

What’s Good About Mountain Pass:

  • The map looks stunning.
  • It’s a checkpoint-type map.
  • It works both in PvP and PvE game modes.

13. Shipment

Ah, the memories…

The next mod that we have is another custom map for your server or to play with your homies. This map should be familiar to you because it’s Shipment from Call Of Duty 4! How cool is that? Instantly, when I played with this mod, I got a sense of nostalgia.

You can have wonderful times with this mod if you play in the Deathmatch or team deathmatch game mode! Or you can use a custom game mode from a mod called Massacre, but more on that later! The map also has a nighttime variant, which makes it even cooler.

What’s Good About Shipment:

  • The rounds are short.
  • If you played Call of Duty 4, the nostalgia will hit you hard.
  • The map is small, and it’s made for quick gameplay.
  • It has a day and night variant!

12. Inspect Weapon

Why isn’t this in the base game?

So you want to tell me that the developers of Insurgency: Sandstorm spent hours crafting these masterpiece models of guns and didn’t add a button to inspect the weapons? Come on, guys, is it even an FPS game if you can’t inspect your weapon?

Well, there’s a simple fix to that, and it’s to install the inspect weapon mod. This mod will allow you to inspect your weapon with just the press of one button, and you can enjoy those magnificent models, or you can use this mod to take some beautiful screenshots for yourself!

What’s Good About Inspect Weapon:

  • You can inspect any weapon in the game.
  • You can notice the small details on your weapon that the devs implemented.
  • There are custom animations for every different weapon type.

11. Massacre Gamemode

1v1 me right now!

This mod is meant to be used alongside custom maps. What this game mode adds are short rounds that last 45 seconds, and 15 seconds of overtime, and a point in the middle that opens up when the overtime timer starts. You can win in two different ways: either by killing the enemy team or capturing the objective in the middle. The first team to gain 20 points wins.

What’s Good About Massacre Gamemode:

  • It’s a short game mode meant for casual fun.
  • It works best with small maps like Shipment.
  • You can play 1v1, 2v2, or 3v3, and the best time you’ll have is when playing with your homies.

10. Redwood Reborn

I swear I heard bigfoot right now.

Even though this map might look like the Star Wars planet where the Wookies live, sadly, that isn’t the case. This map is a huge forest that’s solely meant for PvE gameplay. The map is really hard to win, and that’s because there isn’t a lot of cover.

Enemies can come at you from any direction, and it can be pretty nerve-racking while playing. The map is stunning, with some great visuals, new lighting, and newly added shadows. While playing on the map, it will feel unreal alongside the shooting.

What’s Good About Redwood Reborn:

  • It’s a visually stunning custom map, with new lighting and shadow effects.
  • It’s meant for the PvE game mode.
  • It can be nerve-racking while playing, as enemies can come at you from any direction.

9. Highlands

I can’t see anyone with this white camo.

Here we have another custom map mod that’s highly detailed, huge, and comes with a ton of different game modes. The map features a small village on one side and a shanty town on the other.

When it comes to the game modes, you can play push, domination, team deathmatch, and checkpoint on this map. There is a night and a day variant as well. The map has a ton of tiny details that make it enjoyable to play!

What’s Good About Highlands:

  • This map mod is huge and has a ton of tiny details.
  • There are a total of four game modes to play on this map.
  • It has a day and a night variant.
  • The map is unique and has urban and rural settings to fight in.

8. TORO

It looks like a town from the game Tropico.

Here’s another huge map mod that allows for both close-quarters and long-range combat. It challenges the player to adapt to their situation. In one battle, you’ll be fighting from a long distance, and in another, you’ll be up close and personal with the enemy.

The map mod is highly immersive as it has a ton of greenery and bushes around. You can play 6 different game modes on it. You can play push, team deathmatch, domination, frontlines, firefight, and domination small. You can even play it in PvE as well if you want to.

What’s Good About TORO:

  • The map has a tropical feel to it, unlike any other map mod in the game.
  • It has a lot of greenery around, which adds to the immersion.
  • The map has close quarters and long-distance combat and switches between them perfectly.

7. Tactical Armory

So many new attachments!

This mod works beautifully with the weapon inspection mod, as it will allow you to see these new attachments on your weapons! Not only does it add new attachments, but it also overhauls the class system completely, with a massive addition of new content such as new optics, gear, fire support, and so on. Armor has also seen a buff, which makes it worthwhile to use.

What’s Good About Tactical Armory:

  • Overhauls the class system completely.
  • It adds new attachments to the game, and they all function like they would in the real world.
  • There are gameplay changes as well, which make the game harder and more realistic.
  • Overhauls the armor plates and makes them worth wearing.

6. Medicon

Roses are red, violets are blue, will you be my pocket healer as I’d die for you!

It’s always seemed weird to me that the base game doesn’t have a way to heal yourself or revive someone after they’ve been downed. Thankfully, we have mods to fix that issue. With this mod, only specific classes will get the tool to heal or review dead teammates.

If you do have the tool, you’ll get a notification when someone goes down, and a small icon will pop up. You can use the tool to revive them, or if you want to heal yourself, just look at your feet and stab yourself.

What’s Good About Medicon:

  • It allows specific classes to carry a tool to heal or revive people.
  • Adds additional immersion to the game.
  • You can play a medic and focus solely on healing your teammates on the front lines.

5. Third-Person Camera

Damn, this outfit sucks.

This is a pretty simple mod, and it adds a third-person camera to the game. It’s really fun to use, and it will make the game feel brand new. After spending so many in-game credits and hours customizing your character, you’ll finally be able to see them and how it looks in the game.

You can also switch camera shoulders if you want to, and you can go into first person when you aim down your sights. As I said, the mod is highly customizable to your preference, and it’s really fun to use.

What’s Good About Third Person Camera:

  • It gives the player the option to see their character in the third person.
  • You can switch camera shoulders.
  • You can transition into the first person when you aim down your sights, and it works perfectly.
  • The mod is highly customizable.
  • You can finally see the character customizations you spent hours on.

4. Improved AI

Why would you make AI even harder?

Let me just say that the AI in this game is already phenomenal, and they’re hard as hell to play against. They do sometimes just run at you in a straight line when playing in the PvE game mode, and sometimes it does bug out a bit, but that isn’t an issue.

Now what this mod does is make the AI even harder to deal with. The mod improves their hearing, vision, reactions, and behavior and they use their equipment a lot more, and they are also more accurate.

What’s Good About Improved AI:

  • AI is harder to deal with.
  • It makes the co-op experience more nerve-racking, and you’ll have to communicate with your friends if you want to win.
  • The AI’s behavior, hearing, vision, accuracy, and use of equipment are improved.
  • It works great on custom map mods.

3. ISMCmod

Let me take you to the candy shop.

If you’re tired of using the same weapons constantly, you don’t know which uniform to pick, or you’re tired of the same two factions in the game, then you need to add this mod. Because this mod adds a ton of new weapons, attachments, uniforms, new factions, new gadgets to play around with, and so much more.

There’s enough content in this mod to make it feel like a huge DLC dropped into the base game. It’s integrated so wonderfully that you won’t even realize that it’s a mod. Everything that’s added is immersive and suits the game.

What’s Good About ISCMmod:

  • The mod adds a ton of new and additional content to the game.
  • There are new factions to choose to play with.
  • There are new weapons, gadgets, and customization options added to this mod.
  • Everything feels immersive and like it belongs in the actual game.

2. Zombies

Brainsssssss, brainsssssss…

Here’s a mod that completely overhauls the whole game into something new and exciting that you won’t experience anywhere else. Of course, there are tons of other games that have a zombie game mode or even full-on zombie games, but those are all arcade games and none are semi-realistic.

There are 11 different zombie variants in this mod, and each of them is harder to deal with than the last one. The zombie models are highly detailed and hand-made which is just perfect. There Are also 5 different mortar types in the game, which is just perfect.

What’s Good About Zombies:

  • It completely overhauls the whole game into a zombie survival.
  • There are 11 different zombie variants.
  • The zombie models are highly detailed and unique.
  • Adds 5 different mortar types into the game to help you defeat the zombie hordes.

1. Star Wars: Sagas

Execute order 66!

And for the best mod in the whole game, we have one that completely turns it into a different game, and it’s the Star Wars mod! It’s entirely a different game with iconic weapons, models, and legendary characters from the Star Wars universe.

The mod also comes with custom maps that are set on planets that are in the canon Star Wars universe. It comes with so much content that you don’t need any other mod to play with.

What’s Good About Star Wars: Sagas:

  • It completely turns the game into a Star Wars game.
  • It comes with iconic weapons, characters, models, and so much more.
  • You’ll fight on custom maps that are from the planets of Star Wars.
