Insurgency: Sandstorm Best SMGs (From Worst To Best)

Insurgency: Sandstorm Best SMGs (From Worst To Best)
It's so small but so deadly.

Do you love playing on maps that are mostly close-quarters and are pretty claustrophobic? Well, if you do, then you should be using an SMG. Maybe you already use one but you’re not sure which is the better. Well, no worries, as today I’ll help you out with that.

In this article, I’ll rank all of the SMGs from the worst to the best. The way I’ll be ranking these SMGs is by their stats alone, not by their looks. The stats are all that matter here. There are a total of seven SMGs in the game. So with that, let’s get into this article!

7. Grease Gun

Another WW2 weapon.

The first weapon on this list is a gun from the WW2 era, and surprisingly, it’s good. A fun fact about this gun is that it got its name “Grease Gun” because it looks like a mechanic’s tool for cars. Kind of interesting, if you ask me.

When it comes to the weapon, it doesn’t have a high fire rate, but it does have some decent penetration. It can go through most wooden objects and some metal sheets, but that’s about it. You won’t be able to kill a whole squad with this gun, that's for sure.

Grease Gun Stats:

  • Cartridge - .45 ACP
  • Vertical Recoil - 16
  • Horizontal Recoil - 16
  • Muzzle Velocity - 280 m/s
  • Rate of Fire - 451 rpm
  • Penetration - 276 pp
  • Magazine Capacity - 30 rounds
  • Reserve Ammunition - 3 mags
  • Supply Points - 2
  • Weight - 12%

What Grease Gun Excels At:

  • It has decent penetration.
  • The gun has almost no recoil, and it’s easily controllable.
  • It doesn’t cost a lot of supply points.

How To Get a Grease Gun:

  • You can obtain the weapon when you pick the breacher class in the Security Forces.

6. Sterling

Straight out of WW2.

Another SMG that’s from WW2. When compared to other SMGs, this weapon has a very slow fire rate, which makes it hard to kill a full squad of enemies. But the slow firing rate makes it easily controllable.

The gun does have 34 rounds in its magazine, and that can go up to 50 rounds with the extended magazine. The only time you should be using this weapon is when you don’t have a lot of supply points left but need a primary weapon.

Sterling Stats:

  • Cartridge - 9x19mm
  • Vertical Recoil - 17
  • Horizontal Recoil - 18
  • Muzzle Velocity - 381 m/s
  • Rate of Fire - 500 rpm
  • Penetration - 168 pp
  • Magazine Capacity - 34 rounds
  • Reserve Ammunition - 3 mags
  • Supply Points - 1
  • Weight - 11%

What Sterling Excels At:

  • It’s great if you used all of your supply points for equipment.
  • It has a lot of ammo in its magazine.
  • You don’t have to reload a lot with this gun.

How To Get Sterling:

  • You can obtain this weapon when you pick the breacher class in the Insurgent Forces.

5. Uzi

Time to rock ‘n roll with the Uzi.

This SMG has a pretty damn fast rate of fire but not a whole lot of ammo in its magazine, so you’ll be reloading quite often. But due to the high rate of fire, you can easily drop a whole squad.

The best advice that I can give you when using this SMG is to fire in short bursts at medium distances and only use full auto when you can get close to the enemy. The gun does have a little bit of penetration but doesn’t expect a whole lot. You can kill someone behind some wood, and that’s about it.

Uzi Stats:

  • Cartridge - 9x19mm
  • Vertical Recoil - 16
  • Horizontal Recoil - 16
  • Muzzle Velocity - 400 m/s
  • Rate of Fire - 600 rpm
  • Penetration - 177 pp
  • Magazine Capacity - 25 rounds
  • Reserve Ammunition - 3 mags
  • Supply Points - 2
  • Weight - 6%

What Uzi Excels At:

  • Due to the low weight, you can be quick and nimble on your feet, which is great for flanking enemies.
  • It has a high rate of fire and muzzle velocity.
  • You can drop a whole squad in seconds if you get the surprise on them.
  • The recoil is easily controllable.

How To Get Uzi:

  • You can obtain this weapon when you pick the breacher class in the Insurgent Forces.

4. MP5A2/MP5A5

This gun is art itself.

I am going to bundle both MP5s on the same tier as they are the same weapon with the same stats, just under a different design and a different name. The MP5A2 has absolutely no differences in its stats when compared to the MP5A5. It just depends on which team you’re currently playing.

Both SMGs are highly customizable, and you can create the MP5 with the integrated suppressor from Call of Duty 4. Thankfully, this gun has the stats to back up its excellent design. It also comes with three different firing modes, doesn’t have a lot of recoil, and has a high rate of fire.

MP5A2/MP5A5 Stats:

  • Cartridge - 9x19mm
  • Vertical Recoil - 17
  • Horizontal Recoil - 19
  • Muzzle Velocity - 400 m/s
  • Rate of Fire - 800 rpm
  • Penetration - 177 pp
  • Magazine Capacity - 30 rounds
  • Reserve Ammunition - 3 mags
  • Supply Points - 3
  • Weight - 13%

What MP5A2/MP5A5 Excels At:

  • They are both amazing at really close-quarters combat.
  • They have almost no recoil to control.
  • They are highly customizable.
  • They have 3 different firing modes.

How To Get MP5A2/MP5A5:

  • You can obtain the A2 variant when you pick the breacher class in the Insurgent Forces.
  • You can obtain the A5 variant when you pick the breacher class in the Security Forces.

3. MP7

Where did the ammo go?

Let us talk about the weapon with an insane rate of fire and almost no ammo in the magazine. I mean, it only comes with 20 rounds, which is absolutely nothing. The MP7 was developed by the German manufacturer Heckler & Koch.

The gun does have some good penetration as it uses 4.6x30mm armor-piercing rounds. Those are some great rounds for an SMG, and you can easily drop someone with two bullets to the chest or one well-placed headshot. The recoil is a tad bit harder to control due to its high rate of fire, but it does come with an integrated recoil grip.

MP7 Stats:

  • Cartridge - 4.6x30mm Armor Piercing
  • Vertical Recoil - 18
  • Horizontal Recoil - 20
  • Muzzle Velocity - 735 m/s
  • Rate of Fire - 952 rpm
  • Penetration - 371 pp
  • Magazine Capacity - 20+1 rounds
  • Reserve Ammunition - 3 mags
  • Supply Points - 4
  • Weight - 12%

What MP7 Excels At:

  • It comes with an integrated recoil grip.
  • It has a high rate of fire, but watch your ammo, as it only comes with 20 rounds in its magazine.
  • It’s amazing in close-quarters combat due to its high penetration and high rate of fire.
  • Due to the high rounds, the gun uses its amazing armor.

How To Get MP7:

  • You can obtain this weapon when you pick the breacher class in the Security Forces.

2. Vector

This gun has no vertical recoil.

This is one of my favorite SMGs in the whole game, and it’s because it shoots like a laser. It doesn’t have any vertical recoil whatsoever. You should grab a heavy carrier and an extended magazine with this weapon.

The gun also doesn’t weigh a lot, which makes it viable to run around the map and flank enemies. But the place where this weapon shines is in tight, claustrophobic areas where enemies can’t run around. You can just spray them down and easily rack up a good K/DA for yourself.

Vector Stats:

  • Cartridge - .45 ACP
  • Vertical Recoil - 1
  • Horizontal Recoil - 30
  • Muzzle Velocity - 280 m/s
  • Rate of Fire - 1200 rpm
  • Penetration - 276 pp
  • Magazine Capacity - 25+1 rounds
  • Reserve Ammunition - 3 mags
  • Supply Points - 2
  • Weight - 11%

What Vector Excels At:

  • The gun has no vertical recoil, and it feels like you’re shooting a laser weapon.
  • With attachments, the gun is even better.
  • It has an insane rate of fire, so a heavy carrier is recommended.

How To Get Vector:

  • You can obtain this weapon when you pick the Advisor class on the Security Forces.

1. P90

It comes with 50 rounds.

For the best SMG in the whole game, we have the P90. You won’t have to reload at all with this weapon, as it comes with 50 rounds in the magazine. It has a high rate of fire, high penetration, great muzzle velocity, and low recoil.

With this gun, you are sure to succeed in flanking the enemy team. Although you do have to get pretty close to them to deal some damage and for this weapon to be effective, that’s why you’ll always use it on a close-quarters map, right?

P90 Stats:

  • Cartridge - 5.7x28mm
  • Vertical Recoil - 22
  • Horizontal Recoil - 26
  • Muzzle Velocity - 715 m/s
  • Rate of Fire - 875 rpm
  • Penetration - 241 pp
  • Magazine Capacity - 50 rounds
  • Reserve Ammunition - 3 mags
  • Supply Points - 5
  • Weight - 11%

What P90 Excels At:

  • You won’t have to reload a lot.
  • Great rate of fire and great penetration, which is good at eliminating the whole enemy team.
  • Amazing at close-quarters combat.
  • Doesn’t weigh a lot.

How To Get P90:

  • You can obtain this weapon when you pick the advisor class in the Insurgent Forces.
