Insurgency: Sandstorm Best Battle Rifles (Worst To Best)

Insurgency: Sandstorm Best Battle Rifles (Worst To Best)
My shoulder hurts from shooting these.

Are you someone who loves playing on huge maps but also loves pushing objectives or securing them? Well, if you do, then a battle rifle is for you! Battle rifles in general are weapons that use high caliber rounds. They have a huge kick to them, and they are highly customizable.

There are a total of 7 battle rifles in the game, and I’ll be ranking them from the worst ones to the best ones! These battle rifles will be ranked by their strengths and not by their popularity. As a side note, the majority of battle rifles are on the security forces while the insurgents only get two, but hey, maybe a new update will add new ones, who knows? Anyway, let’s get into this article!

7. G3A3

That’s the G3A3 he’s holding.

The first battle rifle that we’ll be talking about is the G3A3, which was manufactured by the Germans in the 1950s. It was adapted in 1959 and still sees service to this day, and that’s for good reason. It’s a damn good battle rifle, and it can serve you well in battle.

You can customize it to be deadly at long range or go full Rambo up close. The gun uses a 7.62 round, which is more than enough to put someone to sleep. But the biggest downside to this weapon is that it has a slow fire rate.

G3A3 Stats:

  • Cartridge - 7.62x51mm NATO
  • Vertical Recoil - 29
  • Horizontal Recoil - 15
  • Muzzle Velocity - 800 m/s
  • Rate of Fire - 500 rpm
  • Penetration - 400pp
  • Magazine Capacity - 20+1 rounds
  • Reserve Ammunition - 3 mags
  • Supply Points - 4
  • Weight - 24%

What G3A3 Excels In:

  • You can use it at long range or up close.
  • Due to the slow fire rate, the battle rifle can easily be controlled while shooting fully automatic.
  • The penetration is decent enough to get someone hiding behind the cover.

How To Get G3A3:

  • You can obtain this battle rifle when you pick the rifleman, demolitions, observer, or commander class in the Security Forces.

6. MK 17 Mod 0

It’s the SCAR-H baby!

This battle rifle is highly customizable, but sadly, it doesn’t have the stats to back it up. You can mod it however you want. You can create a deadly long-range weapon or something that eliminates people up close.

If you don’t want to deal with the recoil, you can fire it semi-automatic, which can help you a lot in the long run. The gun does have a high rate of fire, which you might think is a good thing, but it’s not when you realize the gun can only hold up to 20 rounds.

MK 17 Mod 0 Stats:

  • Cartridge - 7.62x52mm NATO
  • Vertical Recoil - 27
  • Horizontal Recoil - 12
  • Muzzle Velocity - 715 m/s
  • Rate of Fire - 600 rpm
  • Penetration - 365 pp
  • Magazine Capacity - 20+1 rounds
  • Reserve Ammunition - 3 mags
  • Weight - 24%

What MK 17 Mod 0 Excels At:

  • It’s highly customizable.
  • It has a high rate of fire.
  • Can be made into a deadly long-range weapon or a master at close combat.

How To Get MK 17 Mod 0:

  • You can obtain this weapon when you pick the advisor class on the Security Forces.

5. ACE 52

It’s a modern Galil.

This weapon has taken inspiration from the IMI Galil family. In short, it has a modern design, and the materials that the weapon uses increase its accuracy and lower the overall weight of the weapon while maintaining the ergonomics, ease of maintenance, and battle reliability of the Galil.

This weapon doesn't have a lot of downsides, but there’s a major issue, and that’s the ammo. If you don’t bring a heavy carrier, you won’t be able to pick up ammo from other weapons, even if they use the same cartridge round. That’s because of the unique magazine design that it has.

ACE 52 Stats:

  • Cartridge - 7.62x52mm NATO
  • Vertical Recoil - 34
  • Horizontal Recoil - 18
  • Muzzle Velocity - 800 m/s
  • Rate of Fire - 632 rpm
  • Penetration - 405 pp
  • Magazine Capacity - 20+1 rounds
  • Reserve Ammunition - 3 mags
  • Supply Points - 5
  • Weight - 24%

What ACE 52 Excels At:

  • The recoil is easily manageable.
  • It’s a modern version of the Galil.
  • The penetration is enough to kill someone hiding behind thin walls.

How To Get ACE 52:

  • You can obtain this battle rifle when you pick the advisor class in the Insurgent Forces.

4. MK 14 EBR

Best rifle in the marksman class.

Did you just pick the marksman class while playing on a close-quarters combat map? No worries, my man, just pick the MK 14 enhanced battle rifle, and you’ll do just fine. When it comes to this weapon, it’s damn insane in its stats and its stopping power.

The biggest issue with this weapon is its recoil, but you can lower it with some attachments or maybe even with a bipod if you want to. This weapon has an insane rate of fire, and it’s damn good at long distances too. The penetration is decent as well.

MK 14 EBR Stats:

  • Cartridge - 7.62x51mm NATO
  • Vertical Recoil - 39
  • Horizontal Recoil - 44
  • Muzzle Velocity - 850 m/s
  • Rate of Fire - 732 rpm

How To Get MK 14 EBR:

  • You can get this battle rifle when you pick the marksman class in the Security Forces.

3. Tavor 7

It’s one of two bullpup battle rifles.

This is the only bullpup battle rifle in the game, and it’s damn amazing. A lot of people love using this weapon for a simple reason: it’s reliable. It appeared in the game in the 2020 Security Forces update, and since then it has been dominating the battlefield.

The gun only has two firing modes, which are single and fully automatic. The weapon has a nice rate of fire, and along with that, it has some great penetration. The weapon doesn’t have a lot of ammo in its magazine, so getting the extended magazine upgrade is a must.

Tavor 7 Stats:

  • Cartridge - 7.62x51mm NATO
  • Vertical Recoil - 30
  • Horizontal Recoil - 19
  • Muzzle Velocity - 800 m/s
  • Rate of Fire - 706 rpm
  • Penetration - 405 pp
  • Magazine Capacity - 20+1 rounds
  • Reserve Ammunition - 3 mags
  • Supply Points - 5
  • Weight - 24%

What Tavor 7 Excels At:

  • It has low recoil, which makes it easily controllable.
  • It only has two firing modes, which are good in close or long-distance combat.
  • The rate of fire makes it perfect for killing multiple people at once.
  • An extended magazine is highly recommended.

How To Get Tavor 7:

  • You can obtain this battle rifle when you pick the advisor class in the Security Forces.

2  FAL

This French masterpiece is called the FAL.

This battle rifle is the most famous in the community, and it was the most popular weapon during the Cold War era. There’s a good reason behind that, and in both cases, it’s because it’s an amazing weapon. It’s a fully automatic high-damage weapon, it’s amazing at long and medium distances with the ability to dish out bullets at an insane rate.

It’s great for supporting your team when you equip the 7x scope with a bipod, or you can go in close with a foregrip and a 1x scope. It all depends on your playstyle. But I do recommend that you use the weapon in semi-automatic mode if you didn’t attach a recoil grip to the weapon.

FAL Stats:

  • Cartridge - 7.62x51mm NATO
  • Vertical Recoil - 33
  • Horizontal Recoil - 26
  • Muzzle Velocity - 810 m/s
  • Rate of Fire - 698 rpm
  • Penetration - 410 pp
  • Magazine Capacity - 20+1 rounds
  • Reserve Ammunition - 3 mags
  • Supply Points - 5
  • Weight - 24%

What FAL Excels At:

  • It’s great for supporting your team from afar.
  • It’s deadly at medium distances.
  • It’s the community's favorite weapon because of how good it is at killing whole squads in seconds at long or medium distances.
  • When up close, make sure that you have a recoil grip attached to the weapon and use it in semi-mode.
  • It can kill anyone in a single shot.

How To Get FAL:

  • You can obtain this cold war weapon when you pick the rifleman, observer, demolitions, and commander class in the Insurgent Forces.

1. MDR

It’s the second bullpup rifle and holy smokes it’s goddamn OP.

For the best battle rifle in the whole game, we have the MDR, which was introduced in the 1.14 update. It shoots a high-caliber round at an insane rate of 853 m/s. Its rate of fire is 652 rpm, and shooting it in single fire mode while spamming your left click will feel like you’re shooting it in full auto.

The gun is damn broken and the community hates it with a passion. The gun also has some insane penetration, and it’s best used at long distances due to its high muzzle velocity. It’s better than most sniper rifles, and it’s viable in the PvE game mode as well..

MDR Stats:

  • Cartridge - 7.62x51mm NATO
  • Vertical Recoil - 31
  • Horizontal Recoil - 18
  • Muzzle Velocity - 853 m/s
  • Rate of Fire - 652 rpm
  • Penetration - 430 pp
  • Magazine Capacity - 20 rounds
  • Reserve Ammunition - 3 mags
  • Supply Points - 6
  • Weight - 24%

What MDR Excels At:

  • It’s deadly at long distances due to its high muzzle velocity.
  • You can drop a whole squad from afar in the single-fire mode because of its high rate of fire.
  • Due to the high penetration, the bullets can go through most objects.

How To Get MDR:

  • You can obtain this insane battle rifle when you pick the rifleman, observer, demolitions, and commander class in the Security Forces.
