[Top 10] Games Like Resident Evil (Games Better Than Resident Evil In Their Own Way)

Horror Games Like Resident Evil
Resident Evil 2 Remake

The last couple years have been great for Resident Evil Fans from the absolutely terrifying RE7 to the RE2 and RE3 remakes as well as the next upcoming installment of the series.

Whether you’ve already played through the Resident Evil series, are wanting to expand your horror game list, or just need something to hold you over until RE8 is out, then we have some games for you.

These games will give you all the zombie killing action, intrigue, and downright terrific scares that you crave from horror.

10) Left for Dead

The zombie apocalypse has left four characters struggling for survival against hordes of the undead and other terrifying monsters.

With a co-op option, Left for Dead shakes up the horror story letting you and your friends fight zombies together. Left for Dead is much more shooter forward than Resident Evil games, but with a co-op option, it’s guaranteed to leave you and your friends spooked and all the zombie shooting action you want for hours.

9) Days Gone

If you enjoyed Resident Evil 6 but wanted more action uninterrupted by storylines, then this is the game for you. You’ll play as Deacon St. John, a bounty hunter surviving in a deadly post-apocalyptic United States teeming with zombies.

Days Gone brings an open-world to the zombie horror genre, giving it a new take on the experience while also not taking away from the story.

8) DayZ

DayZ brings the zombie survival experience to a different level. In a deadly world overrun with hordes of zombies, you will have to fight to survive as if you were truly living through a zombie apocalypse.

Beware, because you don’t just have zombies to worry about with 60 players also on the same island. While you’re unlikely to cross paths, fellow survivors and players can be just as deadly as the undead. Make allies with other players or fight to survive, alone.

7) Silent Hill 2

While an older game, the Silent Hill series is another classic and terrifying horror game experience. In Silent Hill 2, you’ll play as James who travels to the mysterious town of Silent Hill in search of his wife only to encounter horrors beyond belief.

If you’re a fan of the older Resident Evil games and nostalgic for that kind of gameplay, definitely check out Silent Hill.

6) Alien: Isolation

Set 15 years after the original Alien film, you’ll play as Ripley’s daughter as she remains trapped in a space station with an alien stalking her every move. With a focus on stealth, you’ll solve various puzzles if you want to survive and uncover the mystery behind Ripley’s disappearance.

5) Alan Wake

This game centers around Alan Wake, a novelist, who has traveled to the mysterious town of Bright Falls in search of his wife. While there, he uncovers a dark and supernatural secret haunting the town. With events unfolding around him exactly the same as one of his novels, he will have to continue to delve deeper into the mystery if he wishes to survive.

While another slightly older game, Alan Wake is an underrepresented game in the horror genre, and if you’re a fan of the story in Resident Evil then Alan Wake is a must play.

4) Outlast

You’ll play as journalist Miles Upshur exploring Mount Massive Asylum as he uncovers the untold horrors and secrets locked behind the asylum doors.

Probably one of the scariest games to date, and if you’re a fan of RE7 in all its gory body horror then you’re sure to love Outlast.

3) Dead Space

While not a zombie horror, Dead Space certainly delivers on the horror. Isaac Clarke is an engineer on the spacecraft USG Ishimura and one of its last living members. Follow Isaac as he fights for survival, encountering the monstrous re-animated corpses of dead crew members throughout the spacecraft.

With every foe having different battle mechanics, Dead Space will surely keep you on your toes and have you watching over your shoulder.

2) The Last of Us

You can’t talk about zombie survival games without mentioning The Last of Us. You’ll play as Joel and are tasked with protecting a young girl named Ellie as you travel to a safer part of the US as society has fallen apart and a zombie-like virus has infected most of the population.

For fans of RE4, The Last of Us is very character driven while also not sacrificing any on the zombie horror side of the story.

1) The Evil Within

Follow protagonist Sebastian Castellanos as he encounters nightmarish creatures and horrors, blurring the line between reality and the human mind.

Developed by Shinji Mikami, the creator of Capcom’s Resident Evil series, The Evil Within remains a solid game with an intriguing story full of twists and turns as well as horror that is sure to satisfy your horror craving.
