Assassin's Creed Valhalla Best Ending [Guide]

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Best Ending

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla has several endings that can be unlocked by completing certain Smilestones (such as hunting down all of the Order of Ancients), as well as two slightly different endings for the main questline depending on a few key choices you’ve made throughout your playthrough. In this guide I’ll tell you how to get each of these endings, so obviously there are some major plot spoilers to follow.

Main Story Ending (Good Ending)

The two different endings to Valhalla’s main plotline only really differ in flavour, but they are slightly different. Basically, it all comes down to whether or not Sigurd returns with you to Ravensthorpe after you finish up things in Norway at the end of the game or not.

How to get the best ending

If you do it right, at the end of the game Sigurd will return with you to Ravensthorpe, and step down as Jarl; supporting you as the leader of the settlement instead. The end result is the same if he isn’t there, but this one has a much more feel-good vibe to it.

How do you get this ending?

  • To get the best ending, there are five choices in the game that matter. As long as you don’t make a decision that Sigurd dislikes on more than three of them, you will get the good ending. These pivotal decisions are:
  • Stealing Styrbjorn's wealth on your way to England: Sigurd will only approve if you choose to leave the wealth for his father.
  • Hooking up with Randvi: It’s not shocking but going after your Brother’s wife doesn’t make him happy. You will, however, get a chance to do so later in the game without causing trouble because they will eventually break up. So just wait on it if you don’t want to upset him.
  • Punching Basim: There comes a point in the story, in Oxfordshire, when you will get the option to punch Basim. He has it coming, but doing it will piss off Sigurd.
  • Denying Dag his Axe: Sure, he’s been nothing but an annoying pain through the entire game, but when he finally decides to fight you, you’ll get the option to let him die without his axe in his hand (which would deny him entry into Valhalla) or giving it to him so he can die with honor. It’s debatable if he deserves it, but you’re going to want to give him his axe if you don’t want to annoy Sigurd.
  • Contradicting Sigurd’s Judgement: Later in the game, you will have a scene where Sigurd makes a judgment on two citizens of Ravensthorpe. It’s not a great judgment, but supporting him here will make him happy.

I said earlier that getting three of these would cause you to get a bad ending, however, it’s good for you to know that if you only get three you can remove one of these strikes by pleading with him to return to Ravensthorpe with you after you’re done in Norway. As long as you don’t have any more than three strikes, this dialogue option should let you just skid by into the good ending.

The End of the Order/Birth of the Templars

You will probably want to hunt down the various members of the Order of Ancients at some point in your playthrough, partially for completionism, and partially because you will need to if you want to unlock the entirety of Thor’s armor set and by extension the legendary hammer Mjolnir.

Meeting the Poor Fellow-Soldier of Christ

After going through and hunting down every member of the Order, you will finally meet their leader; King Aelfred. He confesses to you that he inherited the title and always hated the Order and that he was the “Poor Fellow-Soldier of Christ” that had written the notes that Eivor followed to wipe out the Order. This interaction ends with him saying he wishes to instead create a Christian order that will work toward the betterment of mankind, an ambition that would of course lead to the foundation of the Templar Order, finally replacing the Order of Ancients as the main antagonists we all know and love.

How do you get this ending?

  • Kill all the members of the order listed on the order screen except the Grand Master.
  • Go to meet the “Poor Fellow-Soldier of Christ” after receiving his letter to meet up

Ragnarok

The Asgard plotline is interesting in that you can complete it much earlier than the end of the game. Odin’s journey will take you both to Asgard and Jotunheim, and set up the coming of Ragnarok in their time. It’s interesting to note that what we see in these visions are filtered through Eivor’s mind, so what we see is less an accurate depiction of events and more events set within a story she would understand. The actual story of the Isu in this era probably had a whole lot less Norse flavor to it.

Ragnarok (Asgard Plotline Ending)

If you complete all the plot points in the visions, you will unlock the final scene along with a fun boss fight against Fenrir.

How do you get this ending?

  • Complete all the missions in Asgard and Jotunheim
  • Defeat Fenrir
