Mad Max Gameplay: Top 5 Awesome Mechanics

Welcome, road warrior

Mad Max: Fury Road was one of the biggest movies of the year, but in September we're also getting a game set within the crazed post-apocalyptic setting. Come ride with me as we list off some of the noteworthy gameplay mechanics to be featured in the game.

5. Refined combat system

Max enjoys practicing his skills on punching bags.

The new Mad Max video game features a combat system reminiscent to the Batman Arkham games. While it probably would have been better to develop a new system from the ground up, I am still interested in seeing how the free-flowing mechanics works in the Mad Max game.

4. Direct or stealth combat

Target in sight

Max has a number of ways of encountering enemies – depending on your playing style. If you prefer the direct approach, you can take down hostiles with either fists, guns, or a combination of both; but keep in mind ammo is scarce in the world so make sure to reserve your gun ammunition for when you really need it. If you prefer the silent route, then you can slowly but surely defeat groups of hostiles without being detected.

Depending on the situation some styles may be better than others but it is entirely up to you on what form to go with. As you explore the wasteland you can collect new and better weapons – and also upgrade your hand-to-hand combat skills, making you tougher and more able to take down the deadlier threats later on.

3. Drivable vehicles

Think you can make the jump?

Being part of the Mad Max universe it’s no surprise to know drivable vehicles are going to be a major part of the game. In fact driving is perhaps the main focus of the game as most of the content revolves around the games large variety of vehicles – so there is plenty of stuff to do while in vehicles.

2. Customizable vehicles

Now you can create your own death vehicle.

In addition to being able to drive cars, you can also customize them to your liking! Cars are customized in different ways but the main goal is to improve them as much as possible so you can have better chances of surviving the wasteland’s hazards. Upgrades can be found as scraps while exploring the world so keep an eye out for useful looking remains.

1. Open world

The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic Australia, which is divided into a number of regions. Some regions have a high activity of sandstorms while all are populated with a variety of different factions – some friendly, some hostile. As you explore the wasteland you can form relationships with some of these groups by doing missions for them and also perform other activities – such as race tracks or convoy ambushes.

It’s a dangerous world out there.

The world holds much and you can uncover new objectives by flying up in a hot-air balloon and finding them with your binoculars. Each region is ruled by an antagonistic faction boss and by defeating said mini-boss you can reduce the threat level in each specific region. You can also reduce threat levels by defeating enemies in convoy ambushes or by encountering them as you explore the world.

What other features are you looking forward to in the new Mad Max video game? Leave a comment below and let us know.
