There are 4 factions in War Thunder that have incredible coastal fleets. I will mention ships from Japan, USA, Britain, and the Soviets. I will also only mention rank V vessels because they’re the most fun to use IMO. These frigates are used for many different things, such as destroying other ships, supporting allies, and staying afloat as much as humanely possible. Without further blabbing, let’s start with our first pick!

5. Syonan

Also called Sonia.

Syonan is a Japanese vessel, quite intimidating because of its size and secondary armaments. A fairly survivable ship that’s capable of combat, a little bit weaker against destroyers but extremely dangerous to smaller vessels and ships. It is recommended to not get too far from the map with this thing or you’re gonna get clapped with torpedos and god knows what else. Use your plentiful 25mm cannons on your Sonia and you’ll thrive!

Why this frigate is awesome:

• Survivable, can take a beating
• Decent secondary weaponry
• 25mm guns are both decent against naval and air targets

4. Brave Borderer

Brave indeed.

This is a rank V British vessel. What British vessels are good at is having a hellton of torpedos, superb speed, and 40mm weaponry with an insane rate of fire. If that’s not enough, this thing is also equipped with plenty of torpedos that replenish every few minutes in arcade battles. If the player is skilled enough, he can use his 40mm guns up to 5,000 meters. If this thing only had better AA, it would be unstoppable!

• Unlimited damage
• Powerful, plentiful torpedos
• Very fast

3. Landing Craft Support (Large) (Mark 3)

Americans again.

This is an excellent vessel if you don’t want to worry about aircraft harassing you or one of your destroyers. It’s equipped with AA capable of destroying airplanes and sometimes boats from 2,5 kilometers. Two 40mm guns are capable of destroying torpedo boats and all this is accompanied by a large crew operating the ship. Lovely thing, use it to support your team!

• Decent AA(2,5km range)
• Large crew
• Good firing angles

2. HMS Blackpool

Comes with the tea.

HMS Blackpool is a British frigate with a large crew and thick armor, both factors increase the survivability of this incredible vessel. It does a great job in 1v1 scenarios and can provide decent AA support against planes. Why it’s so good is because of its 40mm guns that can destroy anything in close to mid-range and also the torpedos which can be launched from the front - just wish you could aim them!

1. MPK Pr.12412

Time for the Soviets.

The good old MPK is good at a few things - having massive firepower and high speed. This frigate is equipped with 30mm guns that can be used against everything that’s not too heavily armored. Although this ship is a little bit squishy, as soon as you’re not on the frontlines and you have your radar activated, you should be good. One thing I’ll mention about the radar is the fact that it can detect planes from about 130 kilometers - it’s not possible to be surprise-attacked unless you’re blindfolded!

Why this ship is dope:

• Very useful radar
• Excellent firepower
• High speed, reaches the highest speed possible in a few seconds
