[Top 5] Terraria Best Weapon Against The Destroyer

Get destroyed, son!

The Destroyer is considered the easiest out of all three mechanical bosses. But this doesn't mean that it's a complete pushover. Due to being a segmented boss, similar to the Eater of Worlds, The Destroyer is often vulnerable to piercing weapons. If you're wondering which weapons are the best to deal with this giant metallic worm, then you're in the right place! Explore our top 5 Terraria best weapons against The Destroyer. No animals have been harmed in the making of this article.

5. Sanguine Staff

Have some bloody bats, on the house!

One of the most frustrating parts of The Destroyer fight is its drones. These pesky little buggers can bugger off for all we care. That's why summoner weapons, like the Sanguine Staff, are excellent for this scenario. Each bat can target separate drones and can hit the main boss's body with infinite piercing.

What makes the Sanguine Staff awesome:

  • Consistent damage without the need for aiming
  • Pair with the Firecracker or Snapthorn for more DPS

Weapon stats:

  • Damage - 35 (Summon)
  • Knockback - 8 (Very strong)
  • Mana - 10
  • Use time - 36 (Very slow)
  • Velocity - 10

4. Tome of Infinite Wisdom

Hit it with a book on a stick!

This weapon is the best infinitely piercing weapon at this point of the game, if not for its huge mana cost. The Tome of Infinite Wisdom can make quick work of The Destroyer, being able to hit it all across its body with just one right-click. Drones are also not an issue since the weapon's normal attack can take care of them quite easily.

What makes Tome of Infinite Wisdom awesome:

  • Has 2 different attacks: Left-click releases wind blades that fire in a specific direction. Right-click shoots a tornado that blitzes through the ground.
  • Aptly known in the community as The Destroyer's Destroyer

Weapon Stats:

  • Damage - 32 (Magic)
  • Knockback - 9 (Very Strong)
  • Crit Chance - 4%
  • Mana - 20
  • Use Speed - 25 (Fast)
  • Velocity - 22

3. Drippler Crippler

Does not deal bonus damage to Dripplers

Fishing during the Blood Moon is the earliest way to get some good weapons for Hardmode. This includes getting the Drippler Crippler from the Blood Eels that you can fish at the said event. This weapon is great against The Destroyer, but not so much with the other mechanical bosses. It's a great thing to have for clearing out small mobs, though.

What makes the Drippler Crippler awesome:

  • Has extremely high base damage for early hardmode
  • The head will do damage to multiple segments so long as it's in contact

Weapon Stats:

  • Damage - 110 (Melee)
  • Knockback - 6.5 (Strong)
  • Crit Chance - 4%
  • Use Speed - 40 (Very Slow)
  • Velocity - 15.9

2. Nimbus Rod

Rain down the pain!

If we're talking about weapons that infinitely pierce, the Nimbus Rod is a great choice. Wear some mage accessories, pop out the clouds, and switch to other weapons. This rod will do continuous damage as long as it's out. The only reason why this weapon is not in the first place is that it's usually just used as a secondary weapon.

What makes the Nimbus Rod awesome:

  • Infinite pierce makes it an excellent weapon against the Destroyer
  • Summon two clouds and use other weapons like the next one in our list

Weapon stats:

  • Damage - 36 (Magic)
  • Knockback - 0
  • Mana - 10
  • Critical chance - 4%
  • Use time - 22 (Fast)
  • Velocity - 16

1. Star Cannon

Shoots out real stars!

This pre-hardmode weapon earned a spot in this list for its sheer amount of DPS. If you thought that the Jester's Arrow was the best source of infinite piercing at this point, then you're in for a big surprise. The Star Cannon shoots out Fallen Stars that can pierce infinitely in a straight line. This makes it an excellent weapon for The Destroyer if you can line it up directly. The only caveat is that Fallen Stars are very hard to farm and are slow to get even with a sky bridge setup.

What makes the Star Cannon awesome:

  • Has higher DPS than other ranged weapons at this point. Outdamages the Clockwork Assault Rifle while doing piercing shots as well
  • Pair it with the Ammo Box and an Ammo Reservation Potion and you'll be saving a few fallen stars.

Weapon stats:

  • Damage - 17 (Melee)
  • Knockback - 3 (Very weak)
  • Mana - 10
  • Use Speed - 25 (Fast)
  • Velocity - 15
