Which Are The Best Neverwinter Classes?

Dungeons and Dragons have been a part of gaming culture since its release in 1974. It has since grown in popularity over the years including various video games such as the ever popular Neverwinter (Released 2013). Featuring 8 classes to play from (Guardian Fighter, Devoted Cleric, Scourge Warlock, etc.) with thousands of players online daily and various quests and dungeon runs.  Here is each class ranked from best to worst for online play.

A Tier: Great set of powers, buffs, easy to play and run through the game with ease. High demand

• Hunter Ranger 88/100
• Great Weapon Fighter 93/100

B Tier: Decent play but a little harder as you progress in the game but still desirable and offer good powers and buffs

• Devoted Cleric 72/100
• Oathbound Paladin 76/100
• Control Wizard 64/100

C Tier: Hard to play and progress, low demand and little helpful workable powers

• Scourge Warlock 55/100
• Trickster Rogue 40/100

1. Guardian Fighter (A Tier)

Guardian Fighters are great for many reasons. They are a tank with many buffs and are good for DPS and in PVP. They are especially great for damage resistance and personal damage dealt. The only problems would be Aggro is difficult and self-healing/survivability. However, this can be offset when you are given your companion. As you can assign a healer to yourself which greatly improves the gameplay. I play a guardian fighter with one of my character slots. Though it was not my first choice, it’s one of my most played and enjoyed.

2. Hunter Ranger (A Tier)

A hunter ranger is one of the more fast-paced playstyle classes which can be considered good and bad, if you like to keep busy and have a more tactical playstyle then this is more for you. If you prefer a more hack and slash then choose a melee class. Given a ranged playstyle where the only downfall is that you lose the party buffs when not in range. However, this calss is very easy to solo play and has exceptional AOE and target damage.

3. Great Weapon Fighter (A Tier)

I considered playing this class but opted out because the powers are set in stone and with it being a rather boring straight shot to play. However, the perks are great and easy for players just starting out. It’s easy to play and delivers high damage. A great tank and lot of self-buffing gives an easy and powerful playstyle for beginners.

4. Devoted Cleric (B Tier)

One of the most high in demand classes for dungeons and parties, the devoted cleric is a great choice for experienced players. They offer great buffs for themselves and party members and do a multitude of damage in in lower level dungeons. Though the downside for the Devoted Cleric is that it is extremely difficult to solo in higher level areas and aren’t relied on for healing as originally thought for we progress to high levels in the game.

5. Oathbound Paladin (B Tier)

I was torn whether to put the Oathbound Paladin at 4th place but because Devoted Cleric is huge in demand our Oathbound will have to simply settle for seat number 5. Because the Oathbound Paladin deals lower damage, it makes it game harder to progress, having the need to be in parties more frequently. Being social is a must for sure. Aside from the need to make friends (sorry I can be very anti-social) there are many positive aspects. One of the biggest aspects is being able to switch from a tank to healer at a campsite giving a great advantage and offering huge buffs for your party. The playstyle is very easy though many prefer a little harder which is also why it’s lower on the list. The best advantage in the Oathbound Paladin class is that it would be considered immortal because of the binding and temp health.

6. Control Wizard (B Tier)

This class was a little hard to consider on the lower list but after much consideration I think the reasons are pretty set in stone. One thing I’ve never been fond of is having straight-lined playstyle with the gameplay setup. It's quite the turn off along with the new updates and areas which have been greatly affecting the powers and playstyle. The good aspects for playing are that the Control Wizard can deal massive amount of AOE damage. Along with numerous amount of control and ranged power. So, the Control Wizard is great for playing up until the updated areas. 

7. Scourge Warlock (C Tier)

The Scourge Warlock has a lot of perks. But it also comes at a price causing it to be ranked at number 7. The perks? You get a decent dps build and ability to heal and life steal from mobs. Along with numerous buffs/de-buffs. My favorite perk would be the numerous playstyles associated with this class.  (i.e.; control, healer, DPS) Now here’s where the price comes in. You have low damage. Like, very low compared to other classes. And it’s not a very desirable class for dungeons and such. Which is why it’s number 7. While the perks are good. It’s not an easy class to play,  even for the more veteran players.

8. Trickster Rogue (C Tier)

Last, and unfortunately least would be the Trickster Rogue. (I apologize for those who do enjoy this class, but we must look in a broad view for overall playstyle) This trickster is a very strong class in PVP and for single target damage. You also get some of the coolest looking weapons and armor. Along with some interesting idle animations. Aside from that, you really need to know what you’re doing to make the most of this class. But even veteran players (at least those I’ve spoken and play with) are not fond of the Trickster Rogue class. They do terrible AOE damage and with the storyline in Neverwinter you will need the ability to deal the damage.

In retrospect, while I still don’t consider myself a veteran player like many I know. I have explored enough to have my preferences and the advantages and disadvantages to each class and my playstyle. I think this order is a good opener for many new players looking for advice and to see what works best for how they prefer to play. Also helpful for those who have multiple profiles that want to strategize where to start.
