1. Best Race for a Rogue

A rogue is a master of stealth. They have great movement speed and specialize in dealing damage. They have two paragons that focus on DPS, Whisperknife, and Assassin.  Any Dex-based race will be a good choice for a rogue.

Best Race:

  • Humans 
  • Half-Orcs 

Humans: Humans come in a wide range of appearances and lifestyles. They are flexible and can survive in a variety of climates, allowing them to thrive in practically any environment. The majority of human adventurers become fighters or rogues, while some choose to devote their lives to the study of the arcane or religious piety. They can pretty much be any class. This is due to them having +3 to ANY ability score. They also get a 1% bonus to all stats.

Half-Orcs: Half-Orc children are generally shunned and scorned, and they grow up to be adventurers or brutes. Half-Orcs are known for being outstanding rogues, formidable fighters, and famous great weapon fighters. As a half-orc you get 5% crit severity, +2 Dex and +2 Con or Str, 10% movement speed for 3 sec when entering combat.

2. Best Race for Barbarian

The barbarian class has a DPS paragon and a tank paragon. Barbarian Blademaster is a melee DPS paragon. With their two-handed weapons, they rely on strength to inflict massive strikes on their foes. The Barbarian Sentinel is a tank paragon. They use huge two-handed swords to deliver blows and to deflect attacks from their opponents.

  • Dwarf
  • Dragonborn (Not a free Race)

Dwarf: Dwarves are short, stocky people who claim to have been hewn from the underground rock they live in. They are strong, tough, and dependable, and they honor their friends, gods, and ancestors. They're outstanding fighters and clerics. They consider nothing more honorable than standing by and supporting a combat ally or sharing a beer with them. They would do better as the tank paragon due to their 20% resistance to knock and push, +2 Con, +2 Str or Wis, and 2000 Defense bonus.

Dragonborn: This race is not a free-to-play race. However, this race has some really nice bonuses that would work perfectly for a DPS barbarian. As a Dragonborn, you receive 5% more healing, +2 to Any Ability Score, 3% Critical Strike, and 3% Power.

3. Best Race for a Ranger

The Ranger is a melee & ranged DPS class, with a lot of crowd control abilities as well. Rangers unleash a hail of arrows on foes from afar before closing the gap and finishing them off with close-range attacks. 

Best Race:

  • Wood Elf
  • Drow

Wood Elf: Wood Elves specialize as outstanding rangers, wizards, or even mighty clerics based on their abilities. The majority of elves live to be well over 200 years old, yet they're still very energetic straight to the end. These elves would make a great ranger class due to their 1% critical chance and +2 Dex. Plus they also receive 10% resistance to slow.

Drow: The  Drow race are the most renowned race of dark elves and are similar to their elven kin but have midnight black skin. They are a Dex-based race and perfect for a ranger class. As an ability they get Darkfire. This effect reduces the target’s defense by 2000. You also get the ability Trance. This allows you to heal quicker at camps.

4. Best Race for a Warlock

The warlock is a spellcaster who gains power from an eldritch being through a pact. Warlocks unleash curses and deadly magic, and they can even drain their opponents' vitality. They can also heal themselves and their allies. They have a DPS role and a Healer role.

Best Race:

  • Sun Elf
  • Moon Elf (Not Free to Play)

Sun Elf: Sun elves, sometimes known as gold elves, consider themselves to be the guardians of elven civilization. They are patient and they value tradition, knowledge, and religion. They are best suited for the Healer paragon (Soulweaver) due to their 2% action point gain, +2 Int and Dex or Cha, and 10% control resistance.

Moon Elf:  Moon elves, also called silver elves, are the most common of the elven subraces. They are the most accepting of non-elven races of all elves, and can often be seen among them since they find diversity illuminating. They give you a slight advantage just starting out with their stat boosts and abilities. You receive +2 Intelligence, and either +2 Dexterity or +2 Charisma. Wanderlust, your action point gain, and stamina gain are each 3% higher than that of other races. Plus your elven resilience increases your resistance to Control effects by 10%.

5. Best Race for a Paladin

The Paladin is a holy warrior. They can either be Healers through the Oathkeeper paragon path or Tanks through Justicar. 

Best Race:

  • Dwarf 
  • Half-Orc

Dwarf: Dwarves are excellent fighters and defenders. They would do better as the tank paragon due to their 20% resistance to knock and push, +2 Con, +2 Str or Wis, and 2000 Defense bonus.

6. Best Race for a Fighter

 Fighters may specialize in either tanking with the Vanguard paragon or dealing damage with the Dreadnought paragon. The Dreadnought uses a sword and shield to deliver blows to their enemies, while the Vanguard goes toe to toe with the enemy to keep allies safe behind them.

Best Race: 

  • Hafling
  • Dragonborn

Hafling: Halflings are a small race known for their resourcefulness, quick wits, and steady nerves. They receive +2 Dexterity, and either +2 Charisma or +2 Constitution. Their abilities are also good for a fighter. Halflings gain a bonus of 5% Deflect. Their fearless nature increases their resistance to Control effects by 10%.

Dragonborn: This race is not a free-to-play race. However, this race has some really nice bonuses that would work perfectly for a DPS for Tanking fighter. As a Dragonborn, you receive 5% more healing, +2 to Any Ability Score, 3% Critical Strike, and 3% Power.

7. Best Race for a Cleric

Clerics can specialize in either healing (Devout) or dealing damage (Arbiter). The clerics have good single combat damage abilities as well as good bursts damage DPS. This will help with boss fights. The healing paragon has the best healing abilities. It’s just pure healing. 

Best Race:

  • Half-Elf
  • Sun Elf

Half-Elf: Half-Elves combine the best traits of man and elf alike. Half-elves tend to be great Clerics, as well as powerful wizards. Half-Elves get +2 to Con and either +2 to Cha or Wis. However, they have an ability that allows them to have +2 to an ability score. This is determined by the class you pick. In this case, it would be cleric, so you would be granted a +2 in Intelligence. They also receive a 3% bonus in critical severity, deflection, and gold.

Sun Elf: Sun Elves are patient and they value tradition, knowledge, and religion. They are best suited to be healers due to their 2% action point gain, +2 Int and Dex or Cha, and 10% control resistance.

8. Best Race for a Wizard

The wizard is a spellcaster whose power is centered on arcane knowledge. The Wizard is a ranged DPS class capable of doing single target and AoE damage.

Best Race:

  • Tiefling
  • Wood Elf

Tiefling: Tieflings have a dark and sinister lineage that haunts them. Because of their hellish ancestors' affinity for magic, many of them become formidable wizards. They are best suited to be wizards because of their 5% additional damage to targets below 50% health,  +2 Cha and +2 Con or Int, and 10% chance to apply an ability that reduces the damage the target inflicted for 5 sec by 2.5%.

Wood Elf:  Elves specialize as outstanding rangers, wizards, or even mighty clerics based on their abilities. Pretty much any elf race would make a great wizard class due to their ability scores. However, the wood elf receives a 1% critical chance, and +2 Dex and +2 to Int or Wis. Plus they also receive 10% resistance to slow. They also get Eleven Accuracy which grants them 1500 critical strike.

9. Best Race for a Bard

The new Bard class is the latest edition to the class lineup in Neverwinter. The class uses songs to either deal damage or heal their allies. The Songblade is the DPS paragon path for Bards while the Minstrel path is the healer.

Best Race: 

  • Drow
  • Half-Elf

Drow: They are a Dex-based race and perfect for any DPS class. As an ability they get Darkfire. This effect reduces the target’s defense by 2000. This is a nice debuff when using the bard DPS paragon class (Songblade).

Half-Elf:  Half-Elves get +2 to Con and either +2 to Cha or Wis. This would work well with the healing paragon for the bard (Minstrel). However, they have an ability that allows them to have +2 to an ability score. But that depends on the class you pick during character creation.

At the end of the day it doesn't really matter which race you choose, because you can compensate for their "weaknesses" with gear and enchantments.
