[Top 10] Hogwarts Legacy Best Spells For A Great Combo

So many spells - so many combos! Which one's the best?

10. Imperio + Depulso

Imperio is a difficult spell to combo with because it turns an enemy into your ally. It’s mind control and should be used on difficult-to-handle enemies like a troll to help buy you some time while you can focus on other enemies.

Depulso deflects enemies from you, so essentially, this combo is great for pushing nearby enemies away from you. It’s useful when you need some breathing room.

Why Imperio + Depulso is a great combo:

  • If you upgrade the Imperio Mastery talent under the Dark Arts tree, an enemy under your control curses other targets with each successful strike. Cursed enemies take more damage from you, which will help you deal more damage.
  • If you upgrade the Depulso Mastery under the Spells tree, Depulso releases an additional blast around your character to push away nearby enemies. This is a really good spell to build some distance and is helpful for getting out of tight spots.
  • There’s gravity and impact damage in this game, so if you use Depulso skillfully, you can knock enemies into walls or off cliffs to deal a lot of damage!

Imperio: Temporarily forces enemies to fight as if they were your companion. While under your control, they take reduced damage from other enemies to prolong their allegiance to you. Also curses the victim - and cursed enemies take extra damage.

Depulso: Repels many types of objects and enemies with considerable force.

9. Expelliarmus + Bombarda

Expelliarmus is a weapon disarm spell—basically, it’s a powerful wizard or witch disabling spell. There are really powerful enemies in Hogwarts Legacy that can let off some very destructive magic that you don’t want to be hit with. Elite human mobs in Hogwarts Legacy are immune to a lot of effects like Levioso or Glacius, but Expelliarmus is one of the spells they’re weak to, so it’s definitely one of the best spells in the game.

Bombarda is an area damage spell that hits hard in a huge area. It’s great for dealing flat damage to strong mobs.

Why Expelliarmus + Bombarda is a great combo:

  • Expelliarmus, when upgraded with the Disarming Curse under the Dark Arts tree, causes enemies that are disarmed to be cursed. Cursed increases damage dealt, so it combos well with any damaging spell.
  • Bombarda is an overall very great damaging spell, especially when upgraded with Bombarda Mastery under the Spells tree. The upgrade increases the area of effect for Bombarda, allowing it to hit a large area.
  • There’s a talent under the Dark Arts called the Blood Curse. If you damage cursed enemies, other cursed enemies will also take damage. This is useful with Bombarda because it does a lot of damage, so it’s good for damaging elite mobs and any enemies around them.

Expelliarmus: Disarms wands and weapons from most enemies who wield them. Also deals damage to all enemies, even if they do not carry a weapon.

Bombarda: Deals heavy damage on impact, accompanied by an explosion that can destroy heavy objects and hit surrounding enemies.

8. Flipendo + Depulso

Flipendo lifts enemies and raises them into the air. It’s a useful spell for prolonging air time and juggling enemies.

Depulso, when used with Flipendo, bounces enemies far away, so it’s good for flinging enemies off cliffs or at trees to deal a lot of damage!

Why Flipendo + Depulso is a great combo:

  • Flipendo lifts enemies into the air, so when you combo it with Depulso, they fly off! It’s great if you are situated on a tall building or next to a cliff, because you can just let gravity work.
  • You can knock enemies into walls or trees for massive damage! Gravity/impact damage in Hogwarts Legacy does a ton of damage.
  • This is a unique way to play Hogwarts—it’s challenging and fun!

Flipendo: Flips objects and enemies upwards and backwards. With its short cooldown, it is excellent for setting up and extending juggles. Its ability to flip objects instantly is useful for solving puzzles and exploiting certain enemies' weaknesses.

7. Aressto Momentum + Diffindo

Aressto Momentum lifts enemies and makes them hang in mid-air. It’s great for holding enemies still while you move around to reposition yourself or line up enemies.

Diffindo is a slashing damage spell that passes through enemies; it does a lot of damage. The two spells combo really well because it gives you time to move into a good spot before using Diffindo.

Why Aressto Momentum + Diffindo is a great combo:

  • Aressto Momentum can be upgraded with the Slowing Curse in the Dark Arts Tree; it applies Curse to enemies affected by Aressto Momentum. This is perfect for a damage spell like Diffindo because it amplifies the damage dealt!
  • Diffindo can be upgraded with Diffindo Mastery under the Spells Tree; it makes Diffindo redirect to strike additional targets after passing through the initial one. This is great when comboed with Aressto Momentum because the enemy hangs in mid-air so you can reposition yourself to line up with multiple enemies.
  • Diffindo tends to shoot itself into terrain or the ground, so lifting an enemy up with spells like Aressto Momentum will be a surefire way of making sure it actually hits!

Aressto Momentum: Slows both objects and enemies, giving you extra time to plan your next move.

Diffindo: Slashes objects and enemies from afar dealing considerable damage

6. Levioso + Descendo

Levioso lifts enemies, and Descendo drops them rapidly. It’s probably the combo that complements each other the best in this game.

Neither of these skills does damage by themselves, but the power of gravity strikes again! Descendo (when upgraded) slams enemies into the ground, and it works with any spell that lifts enemies, so Flipendo and Aressto Momentum would also work.

Why Levioso + Descendo is a great combo:

  • Levioso, when upgraded, is able to lift multiple nearby enemies.
  • Descendo, when upgraded, is able to slam multiple nearby enemies.
  • When you add Levioso’s upgrade and Descendo’s upgrade, it causes a slam of multiple enemies, and it’s both devastating and satisfying!

Levioso: Levitates objects and enemies, Useful for solving puzzles and surprising enemies alike.

Descendo: Deals no direct damage, but objects and enemies that are slammed to the ground will suffer considerable impact damage. Airborne enemies will take even greater damage upon hitting the ground.

5. Transformation + Bombarda

Transformation is a great spell that changes enemies into an object that completely disables them.

Bombarda, as discussed earlier, is a high-damage area-of-effect spell. However, it combos especially well with Transformation. Transformation, when upgraded, changes the enemy into an exploding barrel, and when you use Bombarda on an exploding barrel, it instantly kills the enemy (because the barrel is destroyed!).

Why Transformation + Bombarda is a great combo:

  • Transformation can instantly turn any regular mob into an inanimate object. If upgraded with Transformation Mastery in the Spells tree, the enemy will always turn into an explosive barrel!
  • Explosive barrels can be thrown or blown up, so it’s not like you have to use Bombarda on them, but it’s definitely satisfying to watch a double explosion! Note that only fire or explosive spells like Confringo or Bombarda can instantly blow them up. Other spells like Diffindo don’t really do much for it.
  • If you like bombs and big explosions, this is the biggest and bombiest combo you can make in Hogwarts!

Transformation: Transforms objects and enemies into alternate forms, whether puzzle solutions or harmless knickknacks.

4. Accio + Incendio

Accio is a pull spell; it brings enemies up close, which makes it a perfect combo for Incendio, which makes a short-range fire blast to burn enemies!

When both Accio and Incendio are upgraded, it gives you the ability to do area damage. Accio pulls multiple nearby enemies around the target towards you, and Incendio will gain a ring of fire effect that damages all enemies nearby!

Why Accio + Incendio is a great combo:

  • A lot of times, it’s difficult to combo Incendio with other spells because they don’t bring enemies closer to you. The only spell that does this is Accio, which makes it the perfect complementary spell! Instead of you moving towards enemies, the enemies fly towards you!
  • As mentioned, this combo relies on the upgrades. Accio Mastery brings enemies near the target towards you, and Incendio Mastery creates a ring of flame that damages all nearby enemies, making this a perfectly synergized combo! Both spell upgrades can be found in the spell tree and are accessible early on.
  • It’s quick and fun to use—best used when trying to pick off a group of enemies that are close together. Both spells have a relatively short cooldown, and Incendio does good damage, which makes this a very effective combo.

Accio: Summon a variety of objects and enemies to close range.

Incendio: Deals significant damage and lights certain objects on fire, but its range is short and requires you to be close to the target.

3. Glacius + Incendio

Glacius and Incendio together are a very flashy and useful area attack combo. This is one of the best combos in the game for clearing out a group of enemies very quickly.

This is my go-to destruction spell combo, initiating with Accio (to group them up), then Glacius, then Incendio. Essentially, it's similar to the Accio + Incendio combo, but with Glacius upgraded: striking the target deals damage to nearby enemies, which deals additional damage to the targets pulled. In the rare instance that the victim manages to survive the triple spell combo, Confringo can be used to deal the final strike.

Why Glacius + Incendio is a great combo:

  • The effects look amazing—it’s a mix of ice and fire! It makes you feel like an elemental master.
  • Glacius Mastery, which can be found in the spell tree, complements well with Incendio. Both spells are based on dealing area damage, so it’s great for taking out enemies that are clustered together!
  • Glacius freezes enemies in place, making it easy for you to talk up to them and blast them with Incendio! Enemies that are frozen/hit by Glacius also take additional damage, so it’s a pretty amazing spell!

Glacius: Freezes enemies, increasing the damage they take from follow-up attacks

2. Crucio + Confringo

Crucio is an unforgivable curse that bypasses all kinds of shields. When upgraded, Crucio also bounces to nearby enemy targets when the Crucio target is attacked by wand strikes. This lets you mark a large number of enemies with the Curse status debuff.

Confringo, when upgraded, can deal high damage to multiple targets in close proximity. Confringo is an easy way to hit multiple targets, but it’s a destruction spell, so purple and yellow shields can block the attack. Crucio’s bouncing effect can easily destroy the shields, allowing Confringo to bypass the shield mechanic (until they re-cast)!

Why Crucio + Confringo is a great combo:

  • Crucio can be upgraded with Crucio Mastery, which can be found in the Dark Arts Tree. This upgrade will make each wand strike on a target cursed by Crucio to release a projectile that curses nearby enemies. This works especially well with Confringo after it’s upgraded with Confringo Mastery, which can be found in the Spells tree, because the fire bolt, upon impact, can seek out nearby enemy targets as well.
  • Overall, the spells complement very well together with the Blood Curse upgrade (targets that are cursed take damage) because it targets multiple enemies, so there will be multiple procs as all targets should be cursed before Confringo is cast to maximize the effectiveness of this combo!
  • This is a safe and long-range spell that’s very usable. Crucio has the shortest cooldown out of all the unforgivable curses, and it’s great for spreading the cursed debuff on enemies. It’s a staple combo needed by all wizards!

Crucio: Causes most enemies to writhe in pain as they take damage over time. Also curses the victim - and cursed enemies take extra damage.

Confringo: A long-range bolt that deals damage on impact, and set enemies on fire.

1. Crucio + Avada Kedavra

Crucio, as mentioned, is one of the best spells for cursing enemies because of how it spreads when upgraded. This spell is also the perfect one to combo with an upgraded Avada Kedavra—the killing curse that kills every enemy in the game (even trolls!) in one hit!

Avada Kedavra is the one-shot spell that trivializes all enemies in the game. There’s no technique or requirement—you just cast it, and the enemy dies. What you can do to make this spell even better is make sure everyone that you are fighting against dies at the same time—essentially making this spell the one spell to end everything, every time. Avada Kedavra has an upgrade that kills all enemies that are cursed, so I’m sure you can see why this spell is the strongest in the game!

Why Crucio + Avada Kedavra is a great combo:

  • As discussed previously, Crucio bounces the cursed effect on nearby enemies. This spreads the curse effect very nicely to enemies.
  • Avada Kedavra kills enemies immediately. When upgraded with Avada Kedavra Mastery, which can be found in the Dark Arts tree, all cursed enemies will die at the same time as the target.
  • This is a broken spell that kills everything in one hit—even trolls. Trolls are arguably the hardest mob in the game because, like toads, they are resistant to a lot of magic effects. This spell trivializes the game, but it’s also extremely satisfying to use because you feel so powerful with it in hand! It’s completely understandable why this is one of the last spells you unlock in the game!

Avada Kedavra: Kills enemies instantly
