[Top 5] Dragon Ball Fighterz Best Anchors (Ranked)

Dragon Ball Fighterz Best Anchors
Anchors need to keep the team steady, just like it does for a ship!

Dragon Ball FighterZ has been around for quite some time now, but players can’t seem to move on from this addictive game. As a matter of fact, you can still find a lot of active players lurking around in the online lobby, should you decide to spar with them. Besides its base material, Dragon Ball, which is already iconic and popular on its own, we also need to appreciate the easy-to-learn game mechanics.

Despite the easy-to-learn game mechanic, gamers also need to know some basics, like team building. Basically, there are three different roles that a character can take: point, mid, and anchor. This time, we’re going to talk more about the anchor role. Characters who assume the role as an anchor are usually great on their own and won’t rely too much on other characters to assist them. Basically, they are the ones who can carry your team to victory. Let’s take a look at some of the best anchors in this game, shall we?

5. Tien

Despite becoming a side character, Tien has the chance to shine in this game as an anchor to the team.

See Tien in Action:

TIEN IS THE BEST ANCHOR! - DBFZ
Start at: 1.07

Tien is one of Goku’s initial rivals-turned-allies, and what an incredible friend he is. Eventually, he is overshadowed by the Saiyan’s and Namekian’s incredible power and becomes a side character that rarely appears. Fortunately, his status as a powerful character is restored in the game.

He might not be as favorable as other popular characters like Gogeta or Broly. But once you’ve tried him out in a match or two, you’ll find out why he deserves to earn a spot on this list. Most of his basic statistics are great enough. Plus, he can also be great for most gamer types out there!

What Makes Tien Great as Anchor?

  • As mentioned before, Tien has a crazy damage output, and we’re not just talking about any specific moves here. His basic attacks, auto combos, ki blasts, and even special moves are really deadly. Both close-range or long-range gamers will enjoy playing with him quickly.
  • A factor that makes an anchor great is his ability to defeat opponents on their own. This is where Tien’s vast array of super moves comes in handy. Due to this fact alone, he can prolong combos with minimal need of assistance from teammates.
  • One of his signature moves is the Chiaotzu suicide attack. His loyal friend will suddenly appear and grab your opponent and bomb himself along with his enemy. This move alone can deal a lot of damage to your opponent. You might not want to spam this move, but it proves to be reliable when used properly and at the right time.

4. Yamcha

You can underestimate him in the comic, but never turn your back against him in FighterZ!

See Yamcha in Action:

Yamcha is the Best Anchor (Yamcha Comebacks) - Dragon Ball Fighterz
Start at: 0.50

Yamcha has a lot of similarities when compared to Tien. During the early Dragon Ball days, Yamcha was a really strong ally who helped Goku in different stages of his adventures. But lately, he can’t even hold on to some side enemies’ onslaughts. Still, his in-game adaptation mirrors his early days better in terms of power skills and likability. He can even withstand three enemies at once and make a nice comeback when needed.

What Makes Yamcha Great as Anchor?

  • Unlike Tien, Yamcha’s single damage output isn’t outstanding at all. But he is known for producing quick and nimble moves. Therefore, what he lacks in one aspect is replaced by another cool positive point!
  • Remember when we told you before about Yamcha’s quirk? It turns out that his continuous and fast moves can also help in filling up your meter bar. This will turn out to be really beneficial in the long run, as you can use his (or his teammates’) special moves quickly and end the game as fast as possible.
  • We’re not done praising Yamcha’s greatness yet. While Yamcha is so good at hitting his opponents and rendering them useless, his most useful quirk is the ability to jump behind an opponent’s back and startle them. Then, you can continue your combos and hit them harder.
  • Yes, Yamcha is a great anchor that can beat an opponent easily. However, he also has a couple of awesome assists that can be used to help other characters during their battle. Try it out now!

3. Janemba

Janemba is as menacing as his movie counterpart is! A worthy anchor to carry your team to victory.

JANEMBA ANCHOR IS GODLIKE! || DBFZ
Start at: 2.11

Despite only appearing in one Dragon Ball movie (which is also non-canon), Janemba proves to be a likable and popular character, so much so that Dragon Ball developers love to add him to the roster of almost every Dragon Ball game. In the FighterZ game, Janemba is a really great anchor character. It really makes sense for the developer to make him an anchor, as he is also unbeatable in the movie. Playing with him is not only fun, but easy and definitely nostalgic.

What Makes Janemba Great as Anchor?

  • Janemba’s moves can cover a lot of ground. This alone should scare opponents, as his long-range ability will eventually lead to a fatal combo should they let their guard down. Plus, Janemba also has a great throw command which can lead to more combos being performed. What a freak of nature!
  • Janemba is a really great character to use when he is the last man standing in your team. When entering the limit break state (achievable for the last man standing), he will receive a ridiculous buff for most of his stats.
  • A great anchor won’t rely on his teammates’ assist skills to thrive on the battlefield, which is what Janemba’s nature is. His stats are pretty crazy on their own. Plus, his versatility will always make him a favorite, as he can pretty much deal with various opponents with different styles.

2. Base Goku

The original icon steps up and becomes one of the best anchors in this game.

See Base Goku in Action:

Base Goku best anchor?
Start at: 0.01

Base Goku is probably one of the most iconic looks in the series, bar perhaps his own Super Saiyan form. But this particular variant is based on his duel with Vegeta during the Saiyan arc of the Dragon Ball Z series. You can even use his Kaioken form with this character, which is pretty dang cool on its own. Well, it also turns out that Base Goku’s in-game character pretty much mirrors his anime form, where he’s able to one-shot every single opponent (except Vegeta, that is).

What Makes Base Goku Great as Anchor?

  • Base Goku’s main and only purpose in this game is to basically be the last man standing on your team (a perfect definition of what an anchor should be). The more your teammates are knocked down, the more powerful his Kaioken form is. He can even activate a 7-string combo move when there’s no one left on the team besides him.
  • There are a lot of combos that you can try with Base Goku. From vanishing Kamehameha to canceling combos mid-move, there’s nothing else that you can expect from the ultimate anchor character. Oh, did we also mention that his command grab can’t be nullified that easily?
  • An anchor naturally should be used as a last-ditch option. That’s the reason why they should have great assist moves when other characters are stepping up. Thankfully, Goku’s assists are pretty damaging to your opponent. Just try on his Genkidama (Spirit Bomb) move!

1. Broly (DBZ Version)

Dragon Ball's baddie is here to wreak havoc and cause pain to your opponent.

See Broly in Action:

Proof that Z Broly is the best anchor in DBFZ
Start at: 0.01

Well, let’s end our list with a bang, shall we? We felt that no other character is worthy enough to be crowned as the best anchor in this game other than Broly, particularly his DBZ version. Just as Goku and the gang are scared to death when meeting him in the movie, opponents need to be on high alert in the game as well. Let’s see why he’s the unanimous anchor of the game!

What Makes Broly (DBZ) Great as Anchor?

  • Let’s start with the basic reason first: Broly is really great when entering the limit break stage. Imagine Janemba and Goku’s damage output, but double or even triple it!
  • Even if he’s not the last man standing yet, Broly has a high damage output with his special moves. But every character who enters a limit break state will automatically earn an extra bar. Therefore, you can utilize it by spamming his special moves!
  • Broly is a really great character and a master of airborne battle. Seeing as there are many combos in this game that rely on airborne combos, Broly is slightly benefited here. Plus, he also has protective armor that can prevent some of your opponent’s attacks when you’re launching towards them.
