Today we will be taking a look into the recent past of Paranormal movie history. 

I am beginning to realise humans like to be scared and amazed at the same time, but I am also realising that it is okay to be scared and amazed by the unknown. It is something many humans are attracted to. 

Perhaps we humans are somehow connected to the paranormal world beyond death and reincarnation. 

Our fascination with the paranormal will be unending, with a new generation comes new ways to investigate and even write about the paranormal to be made into series or movies.  

Today we will be counting down the Top 25 Best Paranormal Movies of 2019:

 

25 Satanic Panic (2019)

A pizza delivery girl, in a financial situation, delivers a pizza to the wrong people, now she must fight for her life because these people are Satanists in need of a virgin sacrifice.  This trailer shows what could be a well-written movie. The effects are really good. It is a comedic look at how the rich stay rich.

 

24 The Convent (2019)

In 17th Century England, a woman is put on trial for witchcraft and the sentence is always death. A Reverend Mother of a secluded priory steps forward to save her life, however once there, this woman will have to fight to save her soul. The trailer does a really good job showing off the movie. The effects and acting look good along with what appears to be a well-written story. I have no idea what the lesser of two evils is here.

 

23 Paranormal Farm III Halloween (2019)

On a haunted farm an investigation begins, they soon discover more than their previous investigation told them. It is not badly written and the story feels like it has promise. It still runs off the same idea as other “ghost hunting” movies, however, it is still entertaining nonetheless.  Returning to the farm for clicks and money is worth the torments and danger.

 

22 I Trapped The Devil (2019)

A couple visit their estranged brother for Christman, they soon discover he has a hostage, he claims is the devil, things get worse over time. The trailer does not show a lot off, but the effects look good and the story feels well written. The movie feels different. Part conspiracy and part paranormal, where this brother has tracked a lot of evil to the devil that walks the Earth. It looks entertaining. 

How does one person trap a powerful being in their basement and why is its imprisonment is worth all the problems that come with it. 

 

21 Nightmare Cinema (2019)

Five strangers who are masters of horror will watch five movies of terror in an abandoned cinema. Each master of horror must overcome their fears and escape. The story feels like it has promise and the effects look good. This movie pays homage to the anthology series of old where a creepy being would tell creepy stories. This one is not for children. 

I hope these Masters of Horror know the rules to surviving horror movies….

 

20 Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark

A group of friends explore an abandoned and haunted house that is boarded up because previously, children went missing and find an anthology book. Once they begin to read the scary stories come to life and people begin to go missing as the book writes the story. It wasn't a bad movie. The story was well written and the effects were well done. This movie has some creepy effects that will either scare or surprise you. You should watch it on Netflix as soon as you can. 

I have no idea why the children would explore an abandoned house connected to several murders, but this one is on the parents.

 

19 Girl On The Third Floor (2019)

A couple buys a dilapidated house that was one a place of “ill repute'' (brothel) and soon discovers an evil entity lives there that terrorises the couple. The trailer shows the movie has potential and the effects look really good. Just watching the trailer shows how scary this movie could be and also how much story the movie has. Just watch the trailer, I can not describe everything in the movie within this article. 

When paranormal activity starts some would abandon the place or try to sell it or burn it down. Why would you just take the torment while renovating?

 

18 The Wind (2019)

In 19th Century America, an abandoned cabin lies in the frontier that is haunted by an evil entity, soon a family moves in and the activity begins, with death and terrorism following. The trailer shows what looks to be a well-written movie with good effects. We don’t see everything or the movie would be spoiled, however from what the trailer shows it is scary. 

I have no idea why you would stick around when the activity begins. Windows get blown in. Why would you stay after that?

 

17 The Hole In The Ground (2019)

A mother and son move to a new home, however, her son begins to change and she becomes convinced he is not her son. A sinkhole hides a dark secret. The story feels well written and the effects look good. The trailer tells us this has been happening for a long time and no one has been able to stop. What is taking children and replacing them with creatures pretending to be children?

Whatever is swapping out children needs to do a better job at assimilation.

16 Ghost In The Graveyard (2019)

Ten years ago a game of ‘Ghost in the graveyard’ went bad and children died. Now a ghost haunts the town and seeks revenge on the teenagers who watched her children die all those years ago. This looks like a well-written movie with some good effects. Ghosts seeking revenge from beyond the grave is nothing new, however, the trailer shows how unique it is trying to be. The most haunting part of this movie could prove to be the child spirits. 

What kind of parents allows their children to play in the graveyard? Then comes back to haunt the children ten years after your child died?

 

15 Countdown (2019)

A mysterious app is making its way around the Internet that tells people how long they live, down to the last second. Once downloaded you can not escape your fate of being killed by a paranormal entity. This looks like a really good movie. The story feels well written and the effects look really good. The movie is different from what we know. We all have a biological clock, however, people can download an app and see how long they have. Once downloaded you can not escape it and you will have to beat the clock to live. 

Why would anyone want to know how long they have to live? You might not like the answer.

 

14 Pet Sematary (2019)

A family moves to a new home, sometime later they discover in the forest a Sematary. When their pet cat dies, the father buries the cat there and it returns, setting off a chain of horrific events. The movie has a good story and lots of good effects. The movie is very dark and the story might be hard to swallow, in terms of choices made, however, the story is still entertaining. 

It's hard being a parent and it's hard to see pets die, but that's life. As much as you want your best friend back, should you allow your best friend to be possessed by something evil when they reanimate?

 

13 Us (2019)

While on vacation a family visits a beach, soon after a thunderstorm hits. At night the family discovers that another family is on their driveway.  Soon things get terrifying as this family is otherworldly. This Movie feels well written and the effects look good. This movie feels like it can be dark that these unknown doubles need to be destroyed for the family to be free of this situation. 

A bunch of doubles show up and your first question isn't “what the….” Or “What are you?” you're not following the rules.

 

12 Happy Death Day 2U

Stuck in a time loop a group of friends must survive and kill an unknown masked killer to end the cycle and be free of the curse. The movie feels well written and the effects look good. To die to restart events is the name of the game until you kill the killer. Could you kill yourself to restart the time-loop and save your friends? 

This is a time-loop. Everything is reset and no physical evidence is left behind, just memories. For that is one rule of a time loop…..are you taking notes, Mr. Zach Snyder?

The movie feels well written and the tone of the trailer shows promise. How would you act if you found out your child is possessed? Would you still love them or call a young priest and an old priest? Those are the questions these parents have asked themselves

 

10 In Fabric (2019)

A supernatural dress causes harm to the new owner. The dress has a life of its own and nothing can destroy it. The trailer shows off what appears to be a well-written story with some really good effects. Possessed clothing is hardly done, normally it is jewellery that has a strong connection to an entity. How would you get rid of clothing that keeps coming back and that also hurts the wearer?

Why wouldn't the new owner just hand it to someone else in the same way?

 

09 The Field Guide to Evil (2019)

An anthology supernatural horror movie set around the world. Various terrifying stories have their turn to try and scare you. The trailer shows off what to expect and the effects are really good. The fact this movie is set across the world makes it a really interesting movie, how they use old stories to create an anthology is very interesting. 

I am expecting a lot of scares here.

 

08 Return Of The Scarecrow (2019)

A once thought of as a fictional evil scarecrow returns to kill everyone. A group of friends investigate the story and the town’s residents dress up as scarecrows, however, things soon go wrong for everyone. This is a comedy that doesn’t take itself seriously. It feels well written and the effects are good. With all the scares they include, they never forget to include a laugh. 

Even a horror that doesn't take itself seriously can be scary as well as funny.

 

07 Belzebuth (2019)

A detective investigates a school massacre only to find that this case is linked to previous massacres. The investigation leads to a theory of demonic possession.  The movie looks really good, I would like to see this movie get some kind of worldwide release as Tobin Bell is a great actor that deserves to be seen globally. 

Tobin Bell might need an army of young and old priests.

 

06 Light from Light (2019)

'Light From Light' Trailer

A paranormal investigator is asked to investigate a case involving a widower. They believe it is the spirit of his wife, however, things are not how they appear. The story feels well written and the effects used in the trailer look good. This is a different take on the paranormal investigation from the usual story.

Investigating paranormal activity is great, but you can't forget to follow the rules for it.

 

05 HellBoy (2019)

This is the reboot of the 2004 movie. On Earth and raised to fight the paranormal, Hellboy will use his right hand to smash anything that gets in his way, while the left will shoot at them. The original movie’s design of Hellboy feels better, however, the story and effects are just as good as the original. 

The original was better “Red means stop!”

 

04 Annabelle Comes Home (2019)

With Annabelle in the care of the Warrens, we thought we were safe from the demon. We were wrong! A guest opens the locked archive and releases the doll from the protective seal, this also starts a haunting from items within the archive and those entities being drawn to the doll. This movie was really good, it showed off what the Warrens have locked away and why they are locked away. The effects are great and the story is like an anthology within a larger story that also includes smaller stories we might not get to see from the archive. 

I am still not a fan of dolls. Creepy things still. Hiding knives with their small creepy hands.

 

03 Child’s Play (2019)

The reboot to the popular original from 1988. This time faulty programming is to blame and it goes on a killing spree, the doll is still named “Buddi”. Mark Hamill provides the voice of Chucky this time. He is a talented voice actor who’s voiced many roles, including The Joker from Batman: The Animated Series (1992), the movie looks well written and the effects look really good. However, something is telling me they will go back to the original to produce a sequel or Chucky Vs... movie. Imagine the carnage and laughs we’d get from a well written Chucky Vs Micheal Meyers vs Freddy vs Jason. Poor Chucky would keep on getting punt kicked by the other supernatural killers. 

Yeah, another creepy doll with knives hidden in itself. Creepy little thing.

 

02 The Curse of La Llorona

Set in the conjuring universe. Two children taken into care are haunted by an evil entity. The new caregiver must protect these children from the evil entity and stop the terror. The movie has a really good story and some great effects. The Story is as terrifying as it is sad and that is the real story here, as it is with the other movies in the Conjuring universe. 

Haunted clothing is just as creepy as dolls. Kill it with fire!

The mysterious creature is known as Pennywise the clown is back after twenty-seven years away. Most of The Loser Club had moved away and were successful adults, but one phone call brought them back to Derry. This time The Loser Club must stop Pennywise for good. The movie has great effects and a good story. This movie is terrifying, a supernatural entity capable of becoming anything it wants is terrifying. I am sure IT will return to get the Loser Club twenty-seven years after the events of this movie. 

A priest and fire won't save you here. Pennyworth will always return.
