Today we venture into the year 2017 and the paranormal movies that were released in that year. 

The paranormal is fun for us. We investigate and we wonder what the spirit world is like, even if it leads to nothing or we come away with something completely disturbing. 

Some people have seen it, others don't think it exists.

25 The Mummy (2017)

This is a remake of the 1999 original. An Egyptian priestess is sealed away for thousands of years. Her mummified remains are found, eventually she awakes to claim her destiny in the modern-day. Honestly, It isn't The Mummy without Brendan Fraiser in the lead role, however, the story is solid nonetheless and the effects are really good. However this is a film I would still watch, I just wouldn’t treat it like a remake, I would treat it like something new. 

 

24 Ghosts of Darkness (2017)

Two paranormal investigators are asked to investigate a haunted house. One uses his intelligence while doing the investigation in the old school way and the other is more action and tech-based, more willing to fight. Their task is to stay in the house for three nights. The entities make themselves known. This movie feels like it has a solid story with some good acting and effects.  I have no idea why you would bring a gun to a fight with a ghost, but one of them does. 

 

23 Paranormal Demons (2017)

An international group of Movie students visit a mansion that was once a Sanatorium, that they found while accessing the dark web. They soon realise the activity is real. The movie appears to have a good story and what appears to be good acting and effects. Why would you decide to go somewhere that is haunted by evil entities that make people disappear? I’d rather be alive than missing with all that’s left of my last hours is found footage. That “a+++++++++” grade is not worth my life. 

 

22 The Hatred (2017)

Four students and a child are invited to spend the weekend at their professor’s new country home, once settled the activity quickly begins. This movie has some good effects and the acting is really good. The story feels solid from the trailer. The house is haunted, why would you and a child stay any longer after being terrorised by an entity or entities? You have to be completely mad or stupid.

A couple is vacationing in Thailand, things are great until they meet two men that take them to a graveyard ghost house in the middle of a forest, claiming to be able to “blow their minds'' this turns out to be a mistake and the activity soon begins. Why would you trust people you just met? You just broke a rule about surviving in a paranormal film. Don’t trust anyone and do not take anything. You’re an idiot if you break those rules.

A group of friends investigating Eugine Burns also known as Devil of the Delta find a record labelled “Ghost Note” and the activity begins. The acting is good and the effects are too, but the story has potential that it was not reaching in the trailer. Records are innocent things, they have music scratched into them, but why would you play one hidden on its own? Especially one named “Ghost Note” come-on people! This is another paranormal rule you can not break.

A group of sports students and their coach are off on a three day trip to a national competition. Something stops them and the activity begins that stalks and kills. The trailer shows off what appears to be good acting and effects belonging to what appears to be a well-written story. Here is another fine example as to why you follow the rules. You never get off the bus, no matter what is happening outside, getting off the bus could mean you’re dead. Why do so many people break so many rules in paranormal films?

A team of paranormal investigators investigate paranormal activity and soon things get real. It is a good look at investigations and what is wrong with so many today. All running and stumbling around in the dark to look like they are doing something in a “haunted” location and many do it because they can easily con viewers into believing they are being chased by some evil entity. You want to make an entity mad, please do this.

A Television channel creates a paranormal investigation team made up of teenagers, they are boarded in and the cameras roll. The activity begins and there is no escape from the terror. The movie feels like it has a good story with a good atmosphere for the genre of the movie. I do not know why people would want to be locked inside with terrifying and evil ghosts. You have to be nuts to do this in real life. Anything can happen when you come into contact with an evil entity. You will hear “I need a young priest and an old priest” if you do this.

Across America, there are abandoned “Wild West” towns. A group of investigators will investigate the sites and find activity. The trailer was good. It didn’t reveal much but explained what they are hoping to find. Investigating the paranormal is fun when the rules for investigations are followed. You can't just decide to do this one day, if you do then you might hear “The power of Christ compels you!”

15 Death Island: Paranormal Retribution (2017)

Four teens camping on an island and go missing. Now a Paranormal team investigates the island and they find them, however, nothing is as it seems like the paranormal activity re-awakens. The trailer shows off what looks to be a well-written movie with some good effects. Why on Earth would you want to investigate an island of evil that has possessed and taken hold of a previous group? This is definitely one rule broken in the paranormal rule book.

Some years later, a priest must battle the same demon to save a woman. This is based on a true story and the trailer is terrifying aided by what appears to be a good story, good acting and good effects. The issue is proving demonic possession is hard in the modern world. However, there is always a young priest and an old priest waiting in the wings

After her birthday a woman starts to experience activity in her house, which is over nine hundred years old. The family calls in a priest to try and save their daughter. The movie looks well written with good acting and effects. This may break an old paranormal rule of getting the house blessed, saged and protected by crucifixes or other protective charms.

A Doctor tells the father to consult an exorcist to save his son. It is not too badly written and the effects are good. If you find a cheap holiday home that's had its price slashed many times, don't buy it! Buyer be where!

A woman moves into a new home, they soon realise that it belonged to an artist who killed his wife and daughter then hung himself. Soon the activity begins and the cycle starts all over again. It looks to be a really good movie, with some good effects. Why would you live in a home that once belonged to a murderer and he died there? That's asking for trouble!

It looks to be one of the better movies in the series with some good effects within what looks to be a good story. Where do the people go once they disappear? Seriously, I want to know. As many people just go poof into thin air and do not turn up again.

If she breaks the agreement death will come for her. The story feels well written, the acting is good and the effects are just as good. It is subtitled. This is a practice in the Eastern parts of the world and The Church of Latter-day Saints practice this as well. However, France still practices posthumous weddings. I don't know why though…...

Room 1174 is the centre of the paranormal activity and a couple are given the room. They must survive the night to escape in the morning. The movie looks terrifying even with subtitles. It appears to be a well-written movie with good acting and good effects. I just want to relax in my hotel room, I don't want to be terrorised by some freaky evil entity. Pack the Mystery Machine!

This woman must find a way to defeat Nails and save herself. This looks like a terrifying movie with some good acting and effects. I just want to recover in peace, I do not need some nail obsessed entity trying to see what my insides look like…...wait, that's Ghostface.

A disgraced detective has a paranormal experience. He now has to solve the murders that lead him to a haunted house. The people around him think he is having a psychotic episode, however, he can see ghosts and must deliver justice for the dead. It looks like a really good movie with some good effects. I know if I could see the dead, it would drive me mad. 

 

05 Bethany (2017)

A woman moves into her childhood home and starts having nightmares that lead to activity that is driving her crazy. She must prove she's not crazy to her husband and the people around her and stop the evil entity. This looks to be a terrifying movie with some good effects within a well-written movie. She starts to have constant nightmares and she doesn't call a priest? She broke a paranormal survival rule.

 

04 Anne (2017)

A woman becomes obsessed with dolls. Soon things get worse as she becomes distant and starts to self-harm. Her son must uncover the truth to save his mother before it is too late. The movie is terrifying and you know an entity or entities are behind this. It has a good story with some good effects. I find dolls creepy. I feel like they are always watching me with knives behind their backs in those small, creepy hands.

 

03 Cult of Chucky (2017)

Chucky is back and killing again to search for a particular woman, this time in a psychiatric hospital, where we follow a woman who was convicted for the murder of her family, however, she claims innocents. The movie was good with some great effects. The movie also shows how powerful Chucky is beyond killing. He’s able to possess more than one doll in the movie, as the original head is locked away. Can we please get a Chucky vs Micheal Meyers? They live in the same universe.

This movie is set in the Conjuring universe and is the origins of the doll named Annabelle. 

A man who is also caring for his wife allows an orphanage to move into his house, one girl opens a door in a room she was told not to enter and the doll is free again. This is a terrifying movie with lots of good effects within a well-written story. I still hate dolls. Especially ones with creepy smiles. The little witch probably has two big knives in those small creepy hands.

After playing Ouija with two of her classmates one girl is terrorized by an evil entity, She must find out how to end the haunting before it is too late. The subtitles do not detract from the terror this movie can deliver. It has good effects and good acting within a good story. I have no idea why communicating with the dead is a big draw. Some people have no clue and they get terrorists by an entity, this is why professionals exist.
