Survival games having the primitive combination of the bow and arrow is a must in order for them to be as immersive as they are. And The Forest is no different in that department. What makes it so special though, is variety. The Forest has a couple of bows and gives you a variety of arrows to use along with them. We’re going to talk about what makes these arrows so different from each other, and what to use each arrow for.

5) Poison Arrow (best for hunting)

The Poison Arrow is strategically the best for hunting both cannibals and animals that tend to flee on sight. It gives you many advantages when it comes to hunting.

• The Poison Arrow deals 21 damage when used with the Crafted Bow, and 33 damage when used by the Modern Bow.
• Using the Poison Arrow on enemies will slow them down and reduce their damage.
• The Poison Arrow can be retrieved from cannibals after killing them. However, it’ll be back as a Normal Arrow. So, it’ll have to be poisoned again.
• Successfully poisoned enemies will turn green.

You can craft Poison Arrows by combining any arrows with four of any Berries, or Mushrooms. Check out the video below to see the process of crafting them:

4) Normal Arrow (best for early game)

The Crafted Bow and Normal Arrows can sometimes be the difference between life and death in The Forest. Especially if you’re exploring the peninsula in an early playthrough.

• The Normal Arrow is the best one to use early in The Forest due to it being the easiest to craft. You can fill your inventory with Normal Arrows in no time.
• Seeing as the Normal Arrows are very easy to craft in The Forest, don’t worry about retrieving them. Instead, try not to miss any chance to gather some feathers.
• You can use the Normal Arrow to deal 21 damage with the Crafted Bow, and 33 damage with the Modern Bow.

3) Bone Arrow (best craftable arrow for one-time damage)

If you’re looking for a balance between quality and quantity in The Forest then the Bone Arrow is probably the one you’re looking for.

• The Bone Arrow deals 20 damage with the Crafted Bow, and 37 damage with the Modern Bow.
• Just like the Normal Arrow, it can be used to make Poison and Fire Arrows. Though, it will turn into a Normal Arrow in the process.
• The bug that turns special arrows into Normal Arrows when retrieved from corpses applies to the Bone Arrows
• Bone Arrows are powerful and easy to make. Especially if you’re stuck in caves and running low on resources.

2) Fire Arrow (best arrow for damage per duration)

The Fire Arrow is the most fun to use in The Forest. Using it on enemies will drive them crazy before they burn to a crisp. Just light them up and watch the show.

• In addition to the highest burning damage in The Forest, the Fire Arrow deals 53 damage when used with the Crafted Bow, and 65 damage with the Modern Bow.
• Hitting enemies with a Fire Arrow will send them moving erratically. This gives you a time window to ignore them and deal with other enemies.
• You can retrieve a Fire Arrow from an enemy after killing it. However, it will turn back to a Normal Arrow. 
• Another cool way to light a Fire Arrow is to draw the bow and place the tip over a lit Standing Fire. It emulates siege battles when done while protecting your base.

1) Modern Arrow (highest normal damage)

The Modern Arrow is by far the best for combat in The Forest. This arrow is about the only one that you’ll need. The trick here is to find some.

• The Modern Arrow deals 33 damage to enemies when used with the Crafted Bow, and 52 damage when used with the Modern Bow. The latter is the highest one-time bow damage in The Forest.
• At some locations, you’ll find some Modern Arrows in yellow crates. However, you’ll also find Flares in visually similar crates. In that case, don’t worry. You’ll find ones just yet!
• Cherish these little babies. There’s a big chance that once you fire a Modern Arrow, you won’t retrieve it. There’s a bug that turns them into Normal Arrows when you try to retrieve them from corpses, and another one that does the same thing when you use them to craft Poison and Fire Arrows.

The Modern Arrows can be found in five different locations in The Forest, including the Modern Bow and Modern Axe locations. But the location where you’ll find the most of Modern Arrows is at the Film Crew Camp mid-west of the map. Check out the video below for a quick look:
