As PvP is a major part of Elden Ring and most of Fromsoftwares games, this top 5 list will help all players find their preferred shield for player versus player. Remember parrying and guard blocking is great in PvP, and you don’t necessarily need a shield to have a good time in PvP, but it will make you feel even greater when you parry that pesky invader and get the riposte, especially if you see their health bar drop from 100 to 0 with a single riposte blow.


5. Shield Of Guilty

Not only does it look great, but it is also great.


The Shield of Guilty is a small shield that requires you to have 8 strength to use it, as it upgrades with normal smithing stones you can have B scaling at +25. The shield can inflict blood loss if you hit enemies with it, and as it is a small shield, you will have no issue parrying those Rivers of Blood spammers.


Why the Shield of Guilty is great for PvP:

  • Low requirements with low weight.
  • Has blood loss.
  • Can be infused with ashes of war.
  • Can be buffed with magic and consumables.

How to get the Shield of Guilty:

  • Go to Weeping Peninsula.
  • To the Demi-Human Forest Ruins.
  • Before the main room with the boss fight, jump over a wall, to access the stairs leading to a cellar.

4. Jellyfish Shield

Not that great for blocking but the buff is worth it.

The Jellyfish Shield is a fun shield that also has a good weapon skill. With the requirements of 20 strength and 14 dex, this shield can be used and found quite early on. It has good absorption of damage, but you will get more out of the buff the shield's weapon art does than the shield itself. 


Why the Jellyfish Shield is great for PvP:

  • Weapon skill buffs damage for 30 seconds (20%)
  • Low requirements.
  • Can be found early and right after Varre, the NPC that gives you the item to invade.

How to get the Jellyfish shield:

  • Go to the Foothill of the Four Belfries Grace.
  • Run towards the four jellyfish.
  • It will be on a corpse.

3. Buckler

Parry all the invaders. 

The Buckler is famed for being one of the best parrying weapons in the Souls games. With the requirements of  8 strength and 13 dex, and being upgradeable with normal smithing stones it is one amazing weapon with the possibility of B scaling. The shield has very low damage absorption but is great for parrying invaders and enemies.


Why the Buckler is great for PvP:

  • Can be infused with ashes of war.
  • Can be buffed with magic and consumables.
  • Great for parrying but not for blocking.
  • Adding a better version of the parrying ash of war will stop some invaders in their tracks.

How to get the Buckler shield:

  • Bandit starting class shield.
  • Sold by Gatekeeper Gastoc at Stormveil Castle for 1500 runes.
  • If he is killed, his bell bearing can be given to the Twin Maiden Husks and the shield can alternatively be purchased from them.

The Fingerprint Greatshield is the best shield in the game. With amazing stats and requirements of 48 strength. The shield is great for PvP as it can block a lot of damage and has a very high guard boost.

  • Can be buffed with magic and consumables.
  • Causes Madness to build up.
  • Can be infused with ashes of war.
  • Can have up to B scaling.

How to get the Fingerprint Greatshield:

  • Defeat Margott, The Omen King.
  • Go to the Cathedral of the Forsaken.
  • Defeat Mohg, the Omen.
  • Roll into the invisible wall at the back.
  • Drop down from gravestone to gravestone till you get to the corpse.
  • Enter the alcove and head down the corridor, the shield will be next to a nomad. 
  • You can also use this nomad to attack the environment for another item.
