[Top 5] Elden Ring Best Colossal Swords That Are Powerful (And How To Get Them)

The bigger they are, the harder they hit.

Looking for weapons to take down colossal foes? Do I have the swords for you!

Colossal swords are a type of greatsword in Elden Ring. Swinging around a metal sheet on a stick is not only one of the coolest things ever, but doing so is a viable and often chosen strategy for most players. In this list, I’ve compiled five of the most powerful colossal swords in the game, as well as how to get them.

Each sword brings something unique to the table, but most have the same greatsword moveset. Even though I believe one sword is slightly better than the other, I encourage you to experiment with every sword on the list. Whereas one might not fit your build, another might, adding to your playstyle and overall enjoyment of Elden Ring.

5. Zweihander

The first of many big swords.

Another staple of the Souls series, the Zweihander is a well-rounded colossal sword. Those wanting to try out the weapon only need to invest 19 points into strength and 11 into dexterity. Compared to other swords on the list, these numbers are small. I would consider the Zweihander a perfect entry level heavy weapon that is also quite powerful.

At starting stats, the sword deals 141 points of physical damage, scaling with a D in strength and dexterity. This is purely a strength and dexterity  weapon, but different Ashes of War can mutate the type of damage output. You can upgrade the weapon with normal smithing stones you’ll find across the world. Once upgraded, you deal 345 points of physical damage with each swing scaling a D in strength and C in dexterity.

In terms of moveset, you have the standard light attack, sweeping the air with large strikes. This allows for multiple enemies to be hit in one go. What I like most about the Zweihander is the heavy attack options. With the height of the sword being great for range, the heavy attack is a stabbing thrust, allowing for pokes at a decent range.

You can buy the Zweihander from an isolated merchant in the Weeping Peninsula:

Looks familiar. Check out the video.

Why Zweihander Is Great:

  • Solid damage.
  • Buyable item.
  • Great range with pokes.
  • Able to infuse Ashes of War.

Zweihander Base Stats:

  • Physical damage; 141
  • Scales a D in strength and dexterity.
  • Fp cost of 5
  • Weight: 15.5

4. Troll’s Golden Sword

Give me more gold.

The gold doesn’t add any extra benefits or cause extra damage, but it does look awesome. That isn’t to say the Troll’s Golden Sword isn’t powerful. Unlike the Troll Knight Sword, this weapon does straight physical damage. No magic required, just a 29 in strength and a 10 in dexterity. A little higher on the strength requirement than previous, but if you’re reading this i’m guessing you’re running a strength build.

Not upgraded, the sword deals 155 points of physical damage, scaling a D in strength and dexterity. Scaling for most weapons either changes drastically, or stays relatively the same. In terms of max scaling, it changes to a C in strength, but stays a D in dexterity. Damage wise, 379 points of physical damage is nothing to scoff at.

Like the Zweihander, the Troll’s Golden Sword also has the ability to infuse different Ashes of Wars, but I must say, the unique skill the sword comes with is also great. Troll’s Roar is the unique skill, pushing enemies back as well as causing them to stagger. Perfect for the follow-up heavy attack you can get after using the skill. A big difference in the moveset is the addition of a thrust attack after a roll and an upward swing on the second heavy attack.

You can find the Troll’s Golden Sword in a chest on a Hearse, which are essentially moving carriages found around the world:

Another under the bridge watch.

Why Troll’s Golden Sword Is Great:

  • Raw physical damage.
  • Comes with a poke and upward swing.
  • Able to infuse Ashes of War.

Troll’s Golden Sword Base Stats:

  • Physical damage: 155
  • Scales a D in strength and dexterity.
  • FP cost of 22
  • Weight: 19

3. Godslayer’s Greatsword

Slay some Gods, Tarnished.

In terms of damage output, this is the first unique weapon on the list. The Godslayer’s Greatsword does physical damage as well as fire damage. This is also the first weapon on the list requiring a different stat besides strength and dexterity. To wield the Godslayer’s greatsword, you’ll need a 20 in strength, 22 in dexterity, and a 20 in faith. It’s somewhat of a detour for most strength builds, but the effects are worth it.

At base stats, the weapon does 119 points of physical damage and 77 points of fire damage. It also scales at a D in strength, dexterity, and faith. When fully upgraded, it deals 291 points of physical damage, 188 points of fire damage, and scales a D in strength, B in dexterity, and a C in faith.

Similar to the Troll’s Golden Sword, this weapon comes with a poke and upward thrust attack, but the normal swings are at a diagonal, making it harder for enemies to dodge. Now, you can’t infuse any Ashes of War, but, the unique skill is very good. The Queen’s Black Flame strikes at a diagonal as well, but inflicts black flame. Black flame reduces health over time, burning the opponent. Great for pressure, but the effect of the black flame looks amazing too.

In the Divine Tower of Caelid, defeat the Godskin Apostle and claim your prize. It’s in a chest behind him:

Watch to obtain the power of a God.

Why Godslayer’s Greatsword Is Great:

  • Diagonal strikes.
  • Blake flame effect.
  • Viable strength weapon for faith builds.

Godslayer’s greatsword Base Stats:

  • Physical damage: 119
  • Fire damage: 77
  • Scales a D in strength, dexterity, and faith.
  • FP cost of 15
  • Weight: 17.5

2. Greatsword

It's back.

In a previous list, the Greatsword was closer to the bottom of the list. So why is it here? There’s a couple reasons, the first being this list focuses primarily on colossal swords, excluding all other heavy weapons. Also, I generally look at all aspects of the weapon, not just physical damage. Sometimes, it comes down to personal preference. Be aware, with this weapon you’ve committed 31 points in strength and 12 points in dexterity.

With all that being said, this sword is awesome. An early to late game weapon, the Greatsword has gotten me through all the other Souls games besides Elden Ring. Base damage is 164 points of physical damage. It scales a C in strength and an E in dexterity. 401 points of physical damage is what you get when fully upgrading this behemoth.

Another plus is the ability to infuse the weapon with an Ash of War. This will lower the physical damage in certain cases, but the variety is much appreciated. In terms of moveset, its well rounded, acting as a baseline for all other greatswords in the game.

You can find the Greatsword on a Hearse in Caelid:

How to get the sword.

To differentiate this spot from the other list, here’s a guide on how to create a build based after the character Guts, from Berserk:

How to love the sword.

Why Greatsword Is Great:

  • Baseline moveset, easy to learn.
  • High damage from early to late game.
  • Able to infuse Ashes of War.

Greatsword Base Stats:

  • Physical damage: 164
  • Scales with a C in strength and E in dexterity.
  • FP cost of 5
  • Weight: 23

1. Royal Greatsword

Royalty at its finest.

If you know me, you’ll know I love magical weapons. In any other game, give me raw strength. The difference is, to me at least, the amount of different spells, incantations, and items in the game. They feel better implemented in this game, as well as allowing for more hybrid builds. To wield this sword, you’ll need a 26 in strength, 18 in dexterity, and a 22 in intelligence. A great melee option for magic users like myself.

At base stats, the weapon deals 112 points of physical damage, and 134 points of magical damage. It scales a D in intelligence and strength, with an E in dexterity. Upgraded, it deals 274 points of physical damage and 328 points of magical damage. It also scales a C in strength and Intelligence, and a D in dexterity. Solid magic damage and intelligence scaling make this a must for sorcerers.

The moveset is the standard greatsword combos you’ll be accustomed to from other weapons on this list. The unique skill is a huge highlight. Wolf’s Assault is an overhead slam, the difference from other similar attacks being the frost effect applied at startup. Frost is great for stopping stamina recovery. Like all other magical attacks and spells in the game, the attack is dazzling, taking opponents off guard with each us.

To obtain this weapon, you must get to the end of Ranni’s questline. Defeat Blaidd at Ranni’s Rise to get the sword:

Take your rightful place amongst royalty after watching.

Why Royal Greatsword Is Great:

  • Magic and physical damage.
  • Unique skill inflicts frost.
  • Great for magic users.
  • Visually appealing.

Royal greatsword Base Stats:

  • Physical damage: 112
  • Magical damage: 134
  • Scales D in strength and intelligence, an E in dexterity.
  • FP cost of 20
  • Weight: 20

That does it for colossal swords. I hope you enjoyed the Top Five Elden Ring Best Colossal Swords That Are powerful, And How To Get Them.
