Papers, Please
Papers, Please (2013)
Glory to Arstotzka! After winning a state-organised lottery, you now have a job at a border checkpoint, where your job is to examine immigrants' passports and travel documents, and decide whether to give them entry into your closely guarded, authoritarian state. Wielding nothing but the almighty stamp and a number of tools, you must fight forged documents, potential terrorists, and other sorts looking to slip under your gaze.
Papers, Please is a unique simulation of what it is like to man a border checkpoint and process immigrants, sifting through documents, consulting handbooks. The slightest mistake could have grave repercussions, not only for your country, but for your very family.

An absolute masterpiece of a game! The simple aesthetic lends itself to the dehumanization inherent to the system the game makes you a cog within. The game's only problem is how sad it makes me feel.

A dude gave a piece of paper in crayon and said it was his passport. He came back every day with a slightly better passport. He got through on sheer determination.

This game is about attention to detail and making tough choices. Papers, please is an intriguing game about a poor man with a tough job constantly battling loyalty to his job and country and making enough money to scrape by daily. The most interesting point is the multiple endings and the save file is split into a helpful tree so you can keep track of all your decisions and explore every ending possible.

Papers Please is a deep, complex, and emotionally engaging bureaucracy simulator. Full of minute stories ranging from a husband and wife trying to immigrate to your country, to a secret society trying to overthrow the government that is barely paying you enough to support your family. It is a harsh game that gives you a pivotal role in a thousand stories and all you can is give a stamp.

Boring. Depressing. Miniscule. Papers, Please is a game made by Lucas Pope which can't be put in a genre. It's not a game. It's an allegory for the life of a communist immigration officer. The minimalist visuals, the reduced sound creates a hostile atmosphere in which you are completely subdued to do your duty. And it's as fun as denying an arms smuggler access to your motherland can be.
