[Top 10] Heroes of Middle Earth (Ranked)

Heroes of Middle Earth
Can you take me into battle too, please oh mighty Aragorn?

The heroes of Middle Earth are the most epic characters you will ever see. I’m not just talking about people fighting with a sword against the bad guys. The ones I’m talking about are SO much more that that. What’s that, you want to know who they are? Here are the [Top Ten] heroes of Middle Earth!

10. Fingolfn

I would have cheered Fingolfn on against Morgoth any day of the week!

Fingolfn is the most badass of all badass heroes. I need to say this right off the bat: he was basically born in Middle Earth heaven, which is officially called Valinor. From that fact alone you can tell he’s going to have a great story to tell!

Imagine being the first High King of all the Elves. Well, that’s exactly what Fingolfn was. You’re going to love what comes next, because Fingolfn was incredibly passionate about defeating evil.

Fingolfn didn’t just fight alongside other elven soldiers. He actually fought the dark lord Morgoth by himself and wounded him, and this was after his elves were defeated in a battle called the Dagor Bragollach!

It’s so sad to think that Fingolfn was crushed by Morgoth’s war hammer. I almost want to scream ‘noooo, come back to me’ on this one. At least he left the evil Morgoth limping, right?

9. Eärendil

Ok, this guy just came straight from heaven, didn't he? I mean, look at him!

I think its fair to say that Eärendil had a pretty hard life. Think of it this way: can you imagine being 7 years old and evil creatures like Balrogs and orcs attack your home? Well, it happened to Eärendil, and he had to run away from home, bless him.

Eärendil certainly got his revenge on the forces of evil though. He flew his sailing ship through the air and managed to kill the great dragon, Ancalagon. And, can I just say that this dragon was the size of a whole mountain?!

Do you think the elves would have won if Eärendil didn’t kill the huge dragon? That thing could have wiped out the whole elven army with one single breath of fire. The elves were lucky to have Eärendil around.

8. Glorfindel

This guy is close to being my favourite elf, alongside Fingolfn!

Glorfindel was one mighty elf warrior all right. He was a force to be reckoned with against the armies of evil. Let me tell you about his epic feats!

I think what I need to say straight away is that Glorfindel killed a Balrog called Lungorthin. Wait, you might be asking, just like when Gandalf killed a Balrog? Yeah he did, but Glorfindel also got pulled off a cliff by the Balrog just like Gandalf too.

Wait, Glorfindel’s story doesn’t end there! He came back to life, except the Valar gods gave him a massive power-up just like they did with Gandalf. They seem to have pretty similar life stories, don’t they?

Glorfindel didn’t just sit around with his new power. He used it to fight the Witch King’s armies in the northern realms! And, well, the Witch King ran away, so you can probably tell how that went down.

7. Gil-Galad

What's more badass than challenging Sauron to single combat?

I feel sad whenever I say this, but Gil-Galad was the last High King of the elves. The last High King guys, so the elves had no more rulers after him. Aw, oh well, Gil-Galad’s life was pretty epic anyway, so lets focus on the positives!

Gil-Galad was just as much a badass as any other elf on this list. He actually tried to fight the evil Sauron head to head in the War of the Last Alliance! And he defeated him with the help of a human called Elendil.

Its gruesome to know that Gil-Galad’s face was burned by Sauron’s hands. And that’s how he died guys. Not the most peaceful way to go out, but at least he helped to get rid of Sauron for a long time.

I know The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power TV show is very shaky on Middle Earth’s lore, but there are still some pretty cool scenes. You’ve got to check out this link to see Gil-Galad being the epic elf king that he is in the show:

That's it Gil-Galad, you tell them what to do in your amazing deep voice!

6. Gandalf

If I was interviewing Gandalf, I'd ask him why he likes Hobbits so much!

‘You shall not pass!’ Oh you’ve got to love that line. Gandalf is everybody’s favourite wizard sent to fight the forces of Sauron!

He’s one of the most wise and gentle characters you’ll ever see. He’s loved by all the Hobbits, and who can blame him? If Gandalf were in my life, I don’t think I’d feel scared ever again.

Yeah Gandalf is powerful and can use magic blah blah blah. But I think his real power lies in giving hope to others. One of the big reasons that he can do this is because he wears Narya, a ring of power that helps other people around him resist tyranny.

Want to see an epic clip of Gandalf absolutely owning some orcs with his sword and staff? It’s quite an unexpected feat for an old man, but follow this video link so I can prove it folks:

Oh, the way he tells off Pippi here is just stellar. That voice!

5. Frodo Baggins

Frodo must had massive leg muscles after walking all the way to Mordor!

Frodo is a special kind of hero. Yeah, he uses a sword like the other ones, but he’s not tall, strong or even that fast. He’s just a regular Hobbit from The Shire .

Why does this make him special? Well, you try walking for endless miles and destroying an evil ring in a volcano called Mount Doom. It’s so awesome to see a little Hobbit save the whole world like that, and I think that’s the point of Frodo’s story.

Don’t get me wrong, Frodo wasn’t perfect, but carrying an evil ring that tries to take over your mind is really hard. Here’s an emotional clip of him trying to protect his friends from its evil magic:

Aw, you so desperately wanted to go alone, but you couldn't resist a Samwise Gamgee!

4. Samwise Gamgee

The bravest Hobbit in all the land, and the sweetest!

Samwise Gamgee is just one of those characters we all want to hug. As a fellow Hobbit, all he wanted to do was protect Frodo. We all need a friend like Samwise, don’t we everybody?

He was there for his best friend the whole time when journeying all the way to Mordor. He even carried a severely weakened Frodo up Mount Doom! I think everyone would agree that he’s the only reason Frodo got up Mount Doom in the first place.

Samwise Gamgee is a hero because he never gives up, and never leaves his friends behind. It brings a tear to my eye to think about it. Here’s a link showing you more about Samwise Gamgee’s badassery:

Go on Sam! You can do it! Use those little Hobbit legs!

3. Elrond Half-Elven

Elrond's strange. Sometimes, I can't tell whether he's a warrior or a scholar, or both.

I think Elrond is a stand-out character for a lot of reasons. I mean, for starters, he doesn’t really fight that much. Sure, he’s a monster with the sword, but his love of translating ancient languages makes him a great well-rounded character.

He’s not just a bookish elf with a few sword skills though. Elrond’s also a badass leader. I’m a bit jealous that he’s a nerd like me, but unlike me he also took charge of elven armies in the War of the Last Alliance against Sauron.

What, you don’t believe someone who loves books can command armies? Here’s proof my friend! Follow this link to see Elrond in action:

Even for th short few seconds he's seen giving orders, its still so cool to see! Watch from 2:16

2. Tree Beard

Want to ride a gaint walking tree into battle? Tree Beard's your guy!

Imagine a tree. Ok, now imagine a tree walking and talking. Boom, you’ve got Tree Beard my friend!

Tree Beard is different to the others on this list, and not because he’s the only character on this list who doesn’t use a sword! No, Tree Beard and his walking tree people, called Ents, are the reason Saruman was defeated. I mean, Saruman did cut down a lot of Tree Beard’s friends to get the wood from their bodies.

All this revenge and fighting, yet Tree Beard is way older than even Gandalf. Did you know he even calls the old wizard ‘young one’. Yeah, it definitely shows his age alright.

1. Aragorn

Ok, I know there are other badasses on this list, but Aragorn led an army of the undead into battle!

Ahhh, the King of Gondor himself! He’s pretty scruffy most of the time and fights with a sword, yet he’s  one of the bravest heroes Middle Earth has ever seen.

Aragorn’s story is so epic, man. He returns to his home country of Gondor to fight with the Gondorian soldiers when Sauron’s armies attack the city of Minas Tirith.

Everyone thought he had balls of steel when he led a small army to The Black Gate, aka Sauron’s front door. He didn’t even do it to fight the orcs. He just wanted to distract them so Frodo could destroy Sauron’s ring.

Not only did he win, but he was made King of Gondor afterwards! He was in the line of kings after all. He humbly gives his thanks to Frodo and his Hobbit buddies for all they did to defeat Sauron.

I bet you’re eager to see Aragorn’s epic speech at The Black Gate! No worries! Here’s the link to the video:

I am extremely partial to the Dwarves of Middle Earth, so much so that sometimes I wish I was one of them. Perhaps, through my writing, I can one day reunite with my brethren.
