[Top 10] Lord of The Rings Spin-Offs

Lord of the Rings Spin-Offs
Talion is about to lop an orc's head off!

The Lord of the Rings is hugely popular, and it’s one of the biggest and best fantasy stories. But you might have found yourself wondering what else the world of Lord of the Rings has to offer. Fortunately, I’ve got you covered. Here are the [Top Ten] Lord of the Rings Spin-Offs!

10. Middle Earth: Shadow of War

Talion commands his armies to take over the fortress of Seregost.

For any Lord of the Rings fan who wants to be a hero, this is your game. Do you want to kill loads of orcs? Or maybe you want to build a huge orc army? If you do, then this game is definitely for you.

I think the best part about the main character, called Talion, is his powers that let you take over the minds of orcs. When your orc army is big enough, you can try to take over the fortresses all around the map.  Capturing these fortresses means you unlock the final mission where you will get to fight The Dark Lord in an epic boss fight.

I have played through Middle Earth: Shadow of War’s story over and over again. I love seeing all of the coolest characters like the Witch King and Sauron. Here’s some gameplay footage of the Witch King boss fight:

Talion is about to lay the smackdown on the Witch King!

9. The Lord of the Rings Online

You can relive actual events from Middle Earth history? Count me in!

The Lord of the Rings Online is a game where you can play with hundreds of other players from all over the world. And can you believe that this game is over 15 years old? It’s still a pretty popular game today, in fact!

The great thing about The Lord of the Rings Online is that it lets you play as any race you want. I wanted to be a Dwarf, but you can play as any Middle Earth race you want! You can even pick where your character was born and change how they look. I wanted my Dwarf to look like Gimle from The Lord of the Rings movies, so I gave him a big ginger beard!

There are so many quests in this game. My advice would be to take it one quest at a time and just enjoy the game world. You’re not going to be disappointed if you love The Lord of the Rings, trust me.

8. Middle Earth: Strategy Battle Game

Even a table-top army of orcs is scary!

The Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game is a multiplayer game played with small character figures. Name any character from The Lord of the Rings and there is probably a figure for it. So, don’t worry about your favourite character not being included.

You are able to take charge of your armies in epic battles like the ones in the Lord of the Rings movies. There are lots of other things you can buy to make your battle as epic as possible. My favourite part is that you can get model buildings and creatures to make your scenes look even better!

There is something special about these kinds of games, isn’t there? You can’t touch what’s in the movies, books or games. But you can with the Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game. I know there are some of you that want to feel how slimy the head of an orc is!

7. The Hobbit

Wherever Bilbo baggins goes, his sword Sting goes too!

When I finished watching The Hobbit movies, I said to all my friends that they were the best movies I’d ever seen. Bilbo Baggins is the main character, but you also get to see Gandalf. We all love Gandalf, don’t we?

I always thought Bilbo Baggins was such an awesome character in The Hobbit films. He really grows into a character that you’re sure to love by the end. Who knew that a small Hobbit would go on a quest with tough warriors like Thorin Oakenshield?

I won’t spoil the story too much for you, but  it’s definitely for Lord of the Rings fans. So, if you’ve already watched The Lord of the Rings movies and want more, then watch The Hobbit. Here’s a clip from one of the movies:

Come on! Someone save Thorin! Wait, is that Bilbo running over?

6. Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor

Are they...are they glowing blue eyes. Talion is angry guys!

This game was the best-looking Lord of the Rings game when it came out. I think that’s fair to say. The detail in the world and characters look amazing, and this game came out almost 9 years ago! It still looks great to this day.

The world you play in is dark and feels very evil. I always feel so sad when I see all the human slaves being tortured by orcs. It just makes you want to kill them even more!

It’s annoying when an orc kills you in this game because he gets stronger each time. This doesn’t have to be a bad thing; it just makes the game challenging! I’d recommend killing loads of orcs at once with a big barrel explosion to make things easier!

Here’s a gameplay video link showing you the carnage Shadow of Mordor can offer:

The Orc soldiers don't stand a chance against Talion and Celebrimbor!

5. The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth

An opportunity to command my own army? Yes please!

This game is awesome, because it lets you play on the good or evil side. You can choose if you want to take control of orcs, or humans. We all like good guys and heroes. Don’t worry, you don’t have to hide it if you want to be evil; everyone does sometimes!

You’ll like this game if you want to tell armies of soldiers where to go on the map. You can even make these soldiers stronger the more you play the game. I love it when a game makes you feel powerful. Fan-favourite characters are even in the game, like Sam and Frodo! Everyone loves those two!

Fans are always talking about these older Lord of the Rings games. Games like this were something people hadn’t seen very much before. Many people still say they are worth trying out, even today.

4. The Lord of the Rings: War in the North

A game with the Witch King on the front cover? Give it to me now!

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North is a game where you can see your character while you play as them. I think this makes the game better because you feel a stronger connection to the character. What do you think?

Things get even cooler when you discover you can play different characters. I would choose the Dwarf over the elf or human characters straight away! It’s nice that we don’t have to just play as humans all the time, don’t you think?

The places that you visit in this game might be new to you. That’s even if you’ve already seen the movies. So, if you’re looking to play a Lord of the Rings game that gives you something new to see, then this game is for you.

3. The Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring

More opportunities to command armies!

The Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring is another game that lets you control armies of soldiers. It’s awesome for people who like to play old games.

Just like The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth, this game lets you play as the good or evil side. Personally, I would always play as the good side and fight against the evil orcs. What would you do? Its all up to you in this game, and that’s why I love it.

This game gives you a lot of freedom. You can use different characters in lots of different places. You should definitely play this game if you don’t like to be restricted in how you play.

2. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum

You lost Gollum? Don't worry, we've all got our controllers at the ready to help you!

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is an awesome new adventure game. If you’ve looked at the trailers for it, you’ll know it’s something special. Everything about it looks amazing, like the huge volcanoes or big black towers.

So, I’ll give you one guess at who the main character is. You guessed it, it’s Gollum! You get to control Gollum and go through lots of dangerous places. I don’t know about you, but I love to have a game not focused on combat. It keeps things fresh; you know?

No game has offered us gamers the chance to play as Gollum before. You’ll get to hear his creepy voice too! Are you excited to play as him for the first time? Here’s the trailer for the game:

Oh that music and the villain voices are just so good!

1. Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle Earth

When there 's an excuse to fill my table with Lord of the Rings stuff, I take it!

The Lord of the Rings: Journeys Through Middle Earth is a massive board game. Playing with the cards and figures really helps to switch things up when I’ve been playing video games all day. I’m sure you know the feeling.

There are map tiles that let you see where you are going in the world, and each game you play will be different. So, you definitely won’t be bored with this one when you come back to play again! At the end there is an epic final battle, which is always the part I like best in any game.

We are so lucky to have big games like this. We already have Lord of the Rings movies, games and books, but now we have this awesome board game. This is a dream come true for Lord of the Rings fans.

I am extremely partial to the Dwarves of Middle Earth, so much so that sometimes I wish I was one of them. Perhaps, through my writing, I can one day reunite with my brethren.
