Warzone Tips and Tricks

Warzone is a battle royale game where 150 players are on a map that gets smaller and smaller until the last man or team is left standing. What makes these types of games so much fun to play is that each game is different because of random variables like the zone and loot. This means that we have to focus more on things that we can control. This article will show you 25 tips to help you take advantage of what you can control to help you win more games.

1. Drop in the same spot

Dropping in the same spot each game is something that I have done in many different games to see success. By starting off in the same location you can build the knowledge of the area and where to loot and where people typically are.

Battle royales have many variables in them and getting to choose your drop location is something that we get to control each game. Picking the same spot can build familiarity over time with the map and make things feel more consistent.

2. Cutting your Parachute Early

Your parachute will automatically be cut when you reach the ground but cutting it early can give you an advantage. You can do this by pressing the button that is bound with cutting the parachute before you hit the ground.

Cutting your parachute early will get you to land on the ground and pull your weapon out much faster than if you don’t. It will also keep the sound cue of the parachute further away making it more stealthy when landing near an enemy.

3. Watch where people drop near you

Knowing where people are is the most important part of playing a battle royale. This way you will know where people will rotate so you can catch them out of position. You can also use this information to know where you might not want to go if you are avoiding combat.

Keeping note of where people land near you will give you an idea of how many enemies are nearby. You may want to avoid rotating into where a lot of people have landed nearby or even go into the fray as they are scrambling to loot and fight each other.

4. Looting

Looting early on will make or break the start of your game. You have to be able to get to the ground fast and get a good weapon in order to fight the people that likely landed nearby.

Before you touch the ground you should have your sights on either a gun or crate to get a weapon immediately. This way you can have a serious advantage against the people that do not have a weapon yet. After this initial fight, if there is one, your focus should be on plates and money to buy your loadout.

How it works:

  • Land on loot immediately to fight off enemies nearby
  • Loot chests to get plates and money
  • Buy loadout to get the weapons that you have created

5. Get money

Money is a valuable asset in real life but also in Call of Duty’s Warzone. You can use it at any of the Buy Stations across the map to purchase various equipment to help your team get to victory.

You will get money from killing enemies or looting but it is important to get enough for a loadout early on in the game. Your loadout will give you the best equipment that you can find because you get to choose what it is so getting loadout as soon as possible is very important.

How it works:

  • Drop and loot for weapons and money
  • If you don’t have enough for loadout then start a contract
  • Once you have enough money for loadout, purchase it

6. Contracts

Contracts in Warzone are mission objectives that offer cash rewards and other benefits. They include Upload Intel contracts for circle information, Scavenger contracts for loot, Bounty contacts for hunting down specific opponents, and Most Wanted contracts for reviving your whole squad.

Prioritize contracts early in the game to accumulate cash quickly, enabling you to buy essential items like Loadout Dtops. Completing contracts can also help with their added benefits such as knowing where the next circle is, showing you where an enemy is or reviving your squad.

How it works:

  • Collect the Contract on the floor
  • Complete the objective in the allotted time i.e. Eliminate the bounty target
  • Rewards will be given automatically after completion

7. Be Aware of Teams Cash

Knowing how much money you and your team have is an important skill to have. This is because you can always combine your money at a buy station to buy things like loadout and UAVs.

Keep an eye on cash values in the lower left side of the screen and tally up the amounts to see if you can buy important things from the buy station. It is a good idea to look at this any time you are near a buy station or if you need to buy back an ally.

8. Loadouts

Loadouts are a unique part of Warzone that aren’t in any other battle royale and can't seriously help as your weapons won’t be left up to luck. This means we want to create loadouts to suit our individual playstyles and use them often to get comfortable with them.

I recommend reading my other articles about what are the best weapons. Then look into finding the best weapon builds and use the best perks and equipment that you like.

9. Use the Mini Map

The mini map is an important part of Call of Duty multiplayer but this is also true for Warzone. Enemies will show on the mini map if they are filing a weapon that is unsurpressed and can be very helpful in knowing where enemy teams are. It also will show where your allies are and where you might want to rotate to.

You should change your mini map setting to make it a square instead of a circle. The Square mini map is slightly larger. Try to glance over at it when you are not currently in gunfights and especially when your team has a UAV.

It can be easy to forget to look at your mini map if you aren’t used to it so try making it a habit. The easiest way to form the habit at the start is to look at the mini map and take note of something, literally anything. There might not be an enemy but maybe note where your allies are, or the buildings on the map. This will help wire in the ability to glance at the mini map and get information quickly.

10. Familiarize Yourself with Audio

Familiarizing yourself with audio in Warzone involves paying close attention to footsteps, gunfire, and other in-game sounds. This helps you gather crucial information about enemy locations, movements, and potential threats.

Use headphones for a more immersive experience and improved audio detection. Learning to differentiate between various sounds can give you a significant advantage, allowing you to anticipate enemy movements and react swiftly in intense situations.

11. Positioning

Understanding positioning is the difference between a good and a great player. You should be positioned in a way that plays to the pros of your weapons and what you are comfortable doing as well as being able to rotate safely to the next zone.

Take note of the positions you frequently die in, are you always dying in the open? Do you tend to get more kills when you’re on height? Do you often have trouble rotating into zone? These questions are the ones to ask to better your positioning.

12. Escape Plan

Having an escape plan is part of having good positioning. You should always be prepared to retreat and plate up if needed as it is wishful thinking to think you won’t get shot.

Think ahead on where you might run to get cover in the event that you are unexpectedly shot at. Always think where there is cover nearby that you can lay behind to heal or play behind to shoot back. You should also have a way to fully retreat where the enemy will have a hard time keeping line of sight on you.

13. Mid - long range control

Most of the powerful weapons in Warzone are for mid to long ranges, meaning we should take control of these ranges as much as possible. Position yourself in areas where you can see open areas from a distance that you are comfortable taking out enemies with your loadout.

Using a longer ranged weapon and taking enemies when they are rotating or in open positions will make getting kills much easier. Control these ranges for the best results. An added bonus to fighting in these ranges is that the enemy is less likely to be revived.

14. Learn where you like to rotate

This is about getting comfortable in certain areas that you play in often. In most cases you will have the choice to rotate into a couple different points of interest and you will have to choose. You should learn which areas you are more comfortable fighting in and choose to rotate to them more often.

Keep in mind where you win more fights in which areas, also which areas do you know the best in terms of where cover is and escape plans. You should also know which areas play best for the loadout that you are using at the time.

15. Rotate Early

When the zone appears it can be advantageous to rotate early so you won’t have troubles getting into the zone. You will also be able to catch enemies off guard who might be rotating in late to pick up some easy kills.

See where the zone is on the tac map and get into a good position early. You may have to fight a squad there but it is better to do so before everyone else is rotating into the same area. You can also utilize the Upload Intel contracts to know where the zone is before everyone else.

16. Learn to Slide Cancel

Slide canceling is now back in the newest version of warzone and is a must know how to do and take advantage of. Slide canceling is when you cancel your slide animation to bring your weapon up quickly.

It is best to use this for quick bursts of movement as well as to swing around corners quickly at a lower position to throw off enemies' aim. Get comfortable slide canceling by doing it often to learn the inputs and then implement it into fights as best as you can.

How it works:

  • Tac sprint
  • Slide
  • Crouch or jump to cancel

17. Use Live Pings

Live pings are when you ping an enemy and a red diamond is displayed above their head and will follow them for a few seconds.

Bind the ping button to something that you will be able to easily press. This is a great tool for when you are playing in teams as you can see where an enemy is through walls and smokes. It can also communicate with teammates efficiently as they will know exactly where to look.

18. Be Aggressive in the Gulag

The Gulag is something that you will likely see at least once per game as you are sent to it to 1v1 an opponent to be able to respawn for free. Any tips to win this 1v1 more often is good as you will get a free respawn more often.

Playing aggressively by pushing up immediately on the right and left side can give you a good position to head glitch and take out the opponent. It can also be unexpected and give you the edge in this situation.

19. How to Revive Teammates

You will likely need to revive a downed teammate each game but it is important to not go down yourself. Your teammates may have a self revive but you are able to let them keep it by “Tapping” them.

Smoke your downed allies to give yourself cover to revive them or ask them to crawl behind cover so that you can safely revive them. If your teammate has a self revive they can start the self revive and then you can go and revive them at the end of the channel. This will stop the use of the self revive but they will be revived almost instantly.

How “tapping” works:

  • Teammate starts the self revive
  • Before the channel is finished you run to them and press the revive button
  • They will be revived almost instantly and keep the self revive

20. Use Vehicles Strategically

Using Vehicles strategically involves leveraging them for quick rotations or flanking maneuvers. However, be cautious of the noise they make as it can potentially draw attention to your position.

Use vehicles for swift map movement but avoid reckless driving that could reveal your location or get you killed. You should dismount at a safe distance from your destination to maintain a stealthy approach and minimize the risk of enemies blowing the vehicle up or shooting you out of the seat.

21. Quickly Loot Enemies

A lot of newer players take a lot of time to loot enemies but you are really just wasting time that could be spent moving around the map or getting to better positions.

Quickly run over loot and it should automatically pick up the things that you need. Otherwise the only things to look out for are killstreaks and field upgrades as everything else you should already have from your own loadout.

22. Play Together

Playing together in the team modes will give you a big advantage over most players who often split from one another. Warzone is simple in the fact that you can kill or be killed very quickly making it difficult to win 1v2 situations, that’s why peaking with a teammate will ensure you win the fight.

Keep an eye on the tac map to be in close vicinity with your teammates and try to communicate when you are going to push into a building. Follow teammates that are pushing into those close quarters engagements to help secure the kill on the opponent.

23. Prioritize Accuracy

This more so means not to take unnecessary shots at enemies just to reveal your position and not get a kill. Take your time to line up your shots and make sure you can take out unsuspecting enemies.

This can help to conserve ammunition and maintain a good position where the enemy might not know where you are. Once you shoot at them they will know not to be out in the open against you so make sure when you shoot you can take them out.

24. Know Drop Heights

Warzone has fall damage and it can kill you if you fall from too great of a height. You should learn where that threshold is so that you can drop from certain rooftops to move around faster.

There are videos on youtube showing which roofs you can drop from safely without dying on the various maps in warzone. You can also judge the height from experience and pull the parachute when you are unsure.

25. Utilize Gas Masks

The Gas Mask is a unique and useful tool in Warzone allowing you to maneuver through the zone without taking any damage.

Use the mask to rotate around the zone to avoid conflict that might get you killed. You can also use this if you get to the final collapsing zone to outlive your opponents and win the game.
