Here at GamersDecide.com, we listed the most fun assassins games available in 2022 and ranked them. From freerunning across a medieval battlefield in Assassin’s Creed to trotting the globe as Agent 47 in Hitman, here are our top fifteen choices:

Is there a polite way to say "old as dirt"?

Our first entry, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, is the third game in the Splinter Cell series. It follows Agent Sam Fisher as he completes covert missions on behalf of the NSA’s top secret “Third-Echelon” branch.

Is this game playable in 2022? 

I’ll answer your question with a question: do you still have your old PS3? 
In all seriousness, this is a stellar game, and those of us who have the good sense to game on a computer rather than a console (I do not fall into this category) can still play it on Windows.

 

14. Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag (2013)

Is it just me, or are there not enough good pirate games in circulation?

Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag follows privateer turned pirate Edward Kenway on his adventures across the Caribbean sea.

The first Assassin’s Creed game to feature an open world, Black Flag, is an impressive immersion experience, especially considering it is almost ten years old! Do yourself a favor if you haven’t already, and check out this game.

 

13. Dishonored: Death of the Outsider (2017)

A standalone expansion of Dishonored: 2, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is a sort of short sequel. We see Billie Lurk reunited with her mentor, Daud, as they team up to take down the elusive “outsider.”

Rosario Dawson and Michael Madsen shine brightly in their roles as Lurk and Daud, and fans of the series will find that the short game is worth playing.

 

12. Hitman (2016)

Worth it just for the views.

In the sixth Hitman game, we get introduced to one of the gaming’s most coveted assassins: Agent 47. The game follows the genetically engineered killer across the globe as he takes down new targets.
The first of the new World of Assassination trilogy, this is a game worth playing in 2022. Featuring interesting storylines against exotic backdrops, it’s an easy entry onto our list.

 

11. Assassin’s Creed III (2012)

In Assassin’s Creed III, you play as the half-Native American assassin Connor during the American revolutionary war. 

With a legacy of the Mohawk tribe, the Assassin Brotherhood, and the rival Templars in his blood, we don’t often see characters with backstories as rich as Connor’s within the Assassin’s Creed franchise. As usual, Assassin’s Creed caters to history nerds, and this game is no exception

10. Aragami (2016)

Do you feel like playing as a monster summoned by a young girl to do her murderous bidding?

If you answered yes, then Aragami is the game for you.

Borrowing many tropes from Japanese folklore, playing Aragami is excellent for getting your ninja fix. Aragami is undoubtedly an enjoyable experience for weebs and non-weebs alike.

 

9. Assassin’s Creed: Rogue (2014)

Who doesn't want to go rogue from time to time?

Set during the French-Indian war in the mid-eighteenth century, Assassin’s Creed: Rogue is not your typical Assassin’s Creed experience. 

Rogue is a departure from the rest of the franchise, as you play as a traitor to the brotherhood: Shay Patrick Cormac, who allies himself with the notorious Templars. Though a bit older than some of the games on this list, Rogue is a must-play for those who’ve enjoyed other titles in the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

 

8. Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey

Another entry from the Assassin's Creed franchise (shocking, I know), Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, follows Kassandra or Alexios in ancient Greece during the turbulent Peloponnesian war. 
Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey isn’t the best assassin game or even Assassin’s Creed game, but it’s a fantastic experience to play. You can get lost in the beautiful, expansive map or take a deep dive into the franchise’s lore.

 

7. Hitman 3 (2021)

Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Stadia, Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch

The third and final installation of the World of Assassination trilogy, Hitman 3, follows Agent 47 as he seeks to take down those responsible for making him the deadly assassin he is.

Keeping with the trilogy’s reputation, Hitman 3 takes you to all sorts of beautiful and exotic destinations. While not as universally adored as Hitman 2, the game is still fun to play and serves as a nice wrap-up to the trilogy.

 

6. Deathloop (2021)

Often compared to Dishonored, Deathloop is the next title on our list. The game follows an assassin named Colt, who is stuck in a time loop that will continue to reset if he doesn’t kill all his targets by midnight.
Unlike Dishonored, Deathloop is unique because there really isn’t a traditional plot; this hasn’t stopped many gamers from obsessing over it, though.

 

5. Hitman 2 (2018)

Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia

Continuing the storied saga of Agent 47, Hitman 2 follows our protagonist as he again traverses the globe in search of a mysterious client, all while discovering more about his foggy origins.

With beautiful graphics and a captivating tale, Hitman 2 is widely considered the favorite of the Hitman franchise. You can’t go wrong getting your fix for an assassin game here.

 

4. Dishonored (2012)

Windows, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4

Dishonored follows reluctant assassin Corvo Attano as he gets revenge on those who framed him for a murder he did not commit.

The dystopian setting and story-driven experience make for a legendary game beloved by many hardcore gamers. If you don’t mind ten-year-old graphics, you’ll have a great time getting sucked in.

 

3. Assassin’s Creed II (2009)

Perhaps an even more notorious assassin than Agent 47, Assassin’s Creed II introduces us to Ezio, whose saga takes place in renaissance-era Italy.

Although Assassin’s Creed II doesn’t contain all the frills we’re used to in 2022, the plot is stellar, and any true fan of assassin games who doesn’t know Ezio really should.

 

2. Ghost of Tsushima (2020)

Assassin’s Creed: Japan?!

No, but it sure does feel like it.

Ghost of Tsushima follows Jin Sakai, one of the last samurais left to protect his home, the island of Tsushima, from Genghis Khan’s Mongolian army.

This was nearly my number one entry. It really is a fantastic game. Fans of Assassin’s Creed will enjoy the familiar feel (I also found it similar to Red Dead Redemption 2). It is important to note, however, that this game is more than just an Assassin’s Creed ripoff. It is a fantastic story about doing what is right, regardless of preconceived notions, and the rich history of the samurai tradition in Japan.

 

1. Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla (2020)

Vikings aren't your typical assassin, but they're still pretty cool

The most recent entry in the Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, follows Eivor as he conquers the kingdoms of England and becomes familiar with the Assassin Brotherhood.

If you are into history or Norse mythology, you’ll love playing this game. Featuring an open world that isn’t just limited to Earth, but the mythical Norse realms, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla is gigantic.

This can be a bit much for some, but it’s a great game to get lost in, and my pick for the most fun assassin game.

A quick tip: while you can’t go wrong playing as either Eivor, the male voice actor (in my opinion) brings the role to life, making for an even better experience.

 

The assassin games niche has spawned many enjoyable titles and a few genuinely legendary games. You can’t go wrong with any on this list, so get to playing!
