[Top 5] AC Valhalla Best Greatswords (And How To Get Them)

Even the concept art of this game is stunning, kingly even. Credits Obviously go to the incredible team over at Ubisoft

What’s better than a good sword? A greatsword. Assassins Creed Valhalla has a huge array of weapon options, but if a huge two-handed sword is how you want to get your viking on, this is the list of the 5 best options and where to get them.

Just as a side note I will mention both the base stats and the very maximum stats of each weapon, however the max stats will be different for each person depending on your perks and how far you upgrade the weapon. My advice on all these weapons if this is the build you are looking for, follow the Way of the Bear.

5.Saint George’s Holy Sword

The holy sword of Saint George, crafted from the lance that once pierced the dragon of legend, has made its way into the heathen hands of Eivor Wolf-kissed in the ‘River Raids’ update.

Following the ‘Way of the Bear’ with its focus on critical hits strengthens this weapon. The swords bonus ability being that after every critical hit it knocks all enemies to the ground. Meaning you can charge into a swarm of enemies and once a critical hit is landed level the whole lot of them.

Why Saint George’s Holy Sword is great?

  • It can turn you into a one-man army.
  • It’s quite easy to get.
  • It looks very cool.
  • Knockdown ability can be a life saver.

This mythological blade would be higher on the list if it was easier to get. The issue being there is no fixed location for it. It spawns in a random chest in a random large military location on the River Dee. To even get on the River Dee you need to participate on river raids on both the Severn and Exe to find the clues to get on the Dee.

Stats Base/Max

  • Attack- 65/121
  • Speed- 41/41
  • Stun- 35/85
  • Critical Chance- 45/65
  • Weight- 18/18

4.Carolingian Longsword

This sword is based on the weapon wielded by King Lear or Lerion from Shakespeare’s tragedy King Lear. The sword itself looks has the standard shape of a Briton’s sword at that time, only with added decoration of runes along the blade.

The stats of this weapon are designed to improve your critical hit stats. The weapons primary bonus is that after hitting any finisher your critical damage is increased. This damage increase can be stacked up to five times. With enough stats on the “Way of the Bear” skill tree, you have a weapon that after one or two kills in a battle will have you one shot everything else.

Why the Carolingian Longsword is great?

  • Easy to obtain
  • Great for a build focused on critical hit rate/damage
  • Bonus perk is easy to use

This weapon is by far the easiest to get on the list. As seen on the map below it can be found in a chest in Forest Hideout in East Anglia. Look for the red tent on top of the central platform in the camp.

Stats Base/Max

  • Attack- 71/121
  • Speed- 41/41
  • Stun- 40/85
  • Critical Chance- 47/65
  • Weight- 18/18

3.Scimitar

This exotic and curved weapon from the East falls into your hands with 4 upgrades already on it, that will save you some materials. This two-handed mythical level weapon with a blade given the look of Damascus steel, apart from the next two swords being off the charts this scimitar is the best of the standard weaponry.

The bonus on this weapon increases the Light/Quick Attacks damage after hitting a heavy finisher. This bonus lasts for 15 seconds after the finisher, meaning you can take out the enemies that have closed the distance while doing the finisher, that much easier.

Why is the Scimitar so great?

  • Stackable bonus perk
  • Good base damage
  • Already slightly upgraded
  • Available early in the game

The scimitar can be obtained from Reda’s store when opened up in Ravensthorpe for just 120 opals. So you can go on a collecting spree early on or just pick it up sometime later down the line. There is also the quicker way…dirty micro-transactions.

Stats Base/Max

  • Attack- 83/121
  • Speed- 41/41
  • Stun- 51/85
  • Critical Chance- 51/65
  • Weight- 18/18

2.Excalibur

The sword in the stone. The sword of legends. Can only be wielded by someone with the makings of a king. Legendarily unbreakable and powerful and can be yours to play with.

Already upgraded to rank seven out of ten, and with a bonus that blinds and disorients enemies around you. With a huge base attack stat, this sword is a great weapon to use, with the only downside is that it is slightly slower than the other weapons on this list.

Why is Excalibur so great?

  • Large base damage rate straight off the bat
  • Already 70% upgraded
  • Great missions to retrieve

Difficult and time consuming could be used to describe getting this weapon but if you want to get the most out of this game, you’ll be doing the missions for this sword. You can get this sword after finding all 11 of the Treasures of Britain tablets, featured on the map as mystery locations. When all 11 are gained a new location pops up on the map showing you where to get the sword.

Stats Base/Max

  • Attack- 103/122
  • Speed- 40/30
  • Stun- 69/86
  • Critical Chance- 59/65
  • Weight- 18/18

1.Surtr Sword

The weapon of the Surtr the fire giant, forged in Muspelheim to be used to ignite Asgard during Ragnarok. It makes sense that the weapon to bring around the end time of the gods would be the most powerful.

Now the base stats of this sword are a bit of a mystery, but if you have any gear at all, at max level when you purchase sword it comes to you maxed out. If this sword is your goal you need to focus on getting your character some weapon igniting skills as when ignited its attack stats is raised by 30. Pair this with the Blodwulf Shield that ignites your weapon on a successful parry, for a perfect combination.

Why is Surtr’s Sword so Great?

  • Huge attack bonus
  • Looks incredible
  • Fastest and lightest greatsword on the list
  • Highest critical chance

This sword isn’t the best to try and get, you either need to hold out hope it appears in Reda’s shop for around 120 opals or get it from the in game story for 350 helix points. You would have to get the 500 helix points pack for $4.99, if you want to reap Ragnarok.

Stats Max

  • Attack- 117
  • Speed- 44
  • Stun- 80
  • Critical Chance- 81
  • Weight- 17

So theres the top five greatswords in Assassins Creed Valhalla, they require mostly the same builds throughout the game with a little deviation which hopefully this guide will help your choices.

Happy hunting.
