Why Project Zomboid Is Good

Reasons why Project Zomboid is good
Zombies chasing after a survivor

1) Unique graphics

One of the best parts of Project Zomboid are the unique graphics. The game has a fixed point of view, which is uncommon, especially for survival horror games. The graphics for Project Zomboid aren’t too realistic, but they still look amazing.

The use of added visual effects like fog in the morning, cloudy weather, and rain are all details that make the game look more appealing. The unique style of Project Zomboid just adds to the fun experience while playing and allows the developers to focus on adding more content rather than making the graphics look hyper-realistic.

2) Variety in combat

Whether you prefer melee combat games or using firearms to mow down hordes of zombies, both are viable options in Project Zomboid. All forms of combat have their own skills to level up to make fighting easier. The skills are split into melee and gun skills. Each type of melee weapon, like blunt weapons, has its own skill to go with it. But firearms have two general skills: reloading and aiming.

Combat is a core part of the game, and Project Zomboid has great mechanics for using guns and melee weapons.

3) Detailed skill system

Maxed skills in Project Zomboid

Some games have simple skill trees with a few different traits that can be leveled up. Project Zomboid isn’t one of those games. There are twenty-six traits in six different categories. These traits allow players to do different and more advanced tasks as they level up.

The complex skill system makes Project Zomboid an even better game. There are so many different skills that can be leveled up and used to make playing the game easier. Such an advanced skill system is always a huge plus in any game.

4) Multiplayer compatible

When it comes to finding a game to play, a lot of people consider whether the game supports multiple players. Not only does Project Zomboid offer multiplayer, but you can also join servers.

There’s nothing better than spending time with friends and enjoying video games together, and Project Zomboid offers both PVP and PVE in multiplayer games. Whether you want to fight against your friends or with them, you can do both.

5) Highly replayable

A character death screen

One of the main points of Project Zomboid is that your character will eventually die. Of course, it’s a bit sad when the character you spent a lot of time with dies, but this also makes Project Zomboid really replayable. Even if your character hasn’t died, you can create other save files to start over with a new character without having to delete other save files.

When your character dies, it doesn’t delete the world, so if you want to continue playing in the same world, you can respawn with a new character and go find your old character as a zombie to collect your gear. This is a fun added detail, so you won’t lose all the supplies you grinded for.

6) Huge open-world map

The full map

Project Zomboid offers an extensive open-world map with six different towns and cities within Knox County, Kentucky. These towns all have their own unique features, like the Knox Prison outside of Rosewood or the Grand Ohio Valley Mall in Louisville. Such an impressive map makes players want to continue playing so they can find all the unique features throughout the open world.

7) Variety of playstyles supported

Everyone has a different way of playing video games, especially with open-world games like Project Zomboid. There are hundreds of different places to live, and with that, there are various playstyles available.

If players prefer camping out in the forest and fishing for food, then there are cabins in the middle of the vast forests. Or maybe players prefer charging into the hordes that roam through the towns with guns ablaze. Even living on the outskirts of town and having your own farm is a valid option.

The different types of houses and the areas available throughout the Project Zomboid map support players’ enjoyment of the game however they please.

8) Large modding community

The Steam Workshop for Project Zomboid alone has thousands of mods in a bunch of different categories. Adding mods to Project Zomboid is easy to do through Steam, and it’s easy to turn on and off certain mods through the main screen of the game. With so many different mods, there’s something for everyone. Whether you would like to add new cities or towns to the map, have bigger cars, more guns, or even NPC survivor characters, such a wide variety of mods means that if players want to spice up their gameplay, they can do so easily.

9) Developers are active

The developers of Project Zomboid, The Indie Stone, have been sharing regular posts on how their progress has been going for the future “Build 42” update. Not only does The Indie Stone share updates through Steam, but they also share all news about Project Zomboid through their website. Excitement has been building among the community for future teased updates, and it makes being invested in the game feel worth getting invested in.

10) Low price for the content

A base

Considering that Project Zomboid is a game that has such high replayability, supports mods, and has so much to do even in the base game, for twenty dollars, Project Zomboid is the perfect game for anyone who enjoys open-world survival games.
