These Top 10 Greatswords are the ones I would select if I wanted to play with something that was able to pack a large hit. I am sure there are plenty of other great ones if none of these are for you. I like these not just for their look but also because they match what my team and I would use for our play style.

What are Greatswords?

These swords are sculpted to be held with both hands. Trying to swing one of these with one hand is almost impossible. They are some of the heaviest and largest weapons that can be found in New World. However, even though they are excessively large, they can deliver wipe-out blows.

There are many perks to yielding one of these, but please note that there is also a downside to it as with any other weapon.

What are their strengths? Why use them?

This weapon deals a surplus amount of damage if yielded. To use this as your weapon of choice, you must have great strength as it reduces your mobility. It may not have as many strengths as other weapons but in the right hands with enough experience, you can inflict more than enough damage.

 

1. Verglas Greatsword of the Ranger

(Never let the ice consume you)

I should warn you, adventurer, the Glacial Tran is a treacherous place. But go forth knowing that if you enter, I am sure you will find what you seek. You know you’ve found it when you see the shine of its ancient ice and steel blade.

In my opinion, this Greatsword could be invincible if paired with the right gear. It can be used in PvP and PvE with no problem, this greatsword has a lot to offer if used right. My analysis is that the Verglas Greatsword of the Ranger is best suited for a damager build but can be used in other builds.

What Verglas Greatsword of the Ranger Excels at?

• Extra bit of Damage.
  • Thanks to Vicious, you now cause +7% critical damage.
• Bit of Speed & a Little Higher Critical Damage.
  • When activating Relentless Rush you are faster and it increases your chance to do critical damage by 20 %.

I would suggest that you select Relentless Rush as one of your abilities so as not to waste a perk. Here is a little advice, look for gear that would best fit this greatsword but also your playstyle. 

How To Obtain Verglas Greatsword of the Ranger?

If you seek to obtain this masterpiece of craftsmanship. You will have to go far and face many dangers but it will all be worth it in the end. To find this magnificent weapon you will have to enter the Glacial Tran. This Expedition might challenge you in an unexpected way. Find these foes and try your luck.

My opinion of this weapon is that it is amazing. Well, most of the Artifacts are amazing weapons in the game. The Serenity is no different. Talking about Serenity it is perfect for defense and offense so it can be used in almost all Builds. My analysis is that it's an overall exceptional weapon.

  • Thanks to Balanced Blade Offence and Defence is both stronger.

  • +23% more damage thanks to Trenchent Strikes Perk.
• Higher Critical Damage.

I would suggest picking what you spend your experience points on carefully and making sure to choose the right abilities. Here is a little advice my friend, I would pair this with a spear if playing Damager, and with a hatchet if playing as a Tank. 

How To Obtain Serenity?

Obtaining this beauty might be a pain for some and for others just another day. To hold this weapon you will need to dive into the arena and face other players. This weapon can appear randomly on the PvP Rewards Track, on Checkpoint 3. Its price is 50,000 Azoth Salt. I should warn you this weapon can only be obtained once. You will also have to meet the following requirements:

• Requirement: PvP Track Level 20+.
• Requirement: PlayerLevel 61+.

 

3. Azoth Crystal Greatsword

(Azoth means power, Power is everything)

You seek the power of the azoth, there is a way you could wield it. You will need to seek these mutated relics and with it, you could wield the power that is within its crystallized azoth blade.

In all that I have seen of this weapon, it's not just a good-looking greatsword but also a great weapon to play with. Azoth Crystal Greatsword is perfect for PvP and also great for PvE. My analysis is that it's perfect for a Damager Build. 

What Azoth Crystal Greatsword Excels at?

• Extra bit of Damage.
  • Thanks to Vicious, you now cause +7% critical damage.
• Shorter Cooldowns.
  • Light & heavy attacks lessen your active weapon cooldowns due to Refreshing Move Perk. 

I am not sure if this will get fixed but as far as I know, you still can’t put any of the Trenchent Perks on it. I don't know the reason but hope it helps. A tiny bit of advice, choose wisely what you gear it with.

How To Obtain Azoth Crystal Greatsword?

You can obtain this Greatsword, but you will have to hunt it down as it can be groped from a vast variety of monsters. These foes can be found in different Expeditions all over Aeternum It can be found in these chests:

• The Depths Mutator Chest - Legendary.

Walk onto the battlefield proud and fearless. My foes will feel my blade before they can react. Any in my way will fail, I will not spare a single soul. 

This Greatsword has a cool appearance but don't let that fool you it's a deadly weapon. It can be used in PvP and PvE with no problem. My analysis is that it can be used in many Builds.

What Black Talons Excels at?

• Less Debuffs.
  • When using Steadfast Strike ability you now reduce any active debuff by 66% thanks to Steadfast Purification Perk.
• Extra bit of Damage.
  • Thanks to Vicious, you now cause +7% critical damage.

I will recommend you use this greatsword in a Dameger Build. I think even though it can be suitable for a variety of Builds, I would still recommend it for a Damager. A little advice, choose your abilities carefully.

How To Obtain Black Talons?

If you wish to obtain this beast you will have to face a beast. You will have to travel to Old First Light and seek out Remnant of Simon Jeffrey and slay him. 

• Remnant of Simon Jeffrey - Level 64 - Family Angry Earth - Requirements Player level 60+.

Here is a little more info on him, his weaknesses are:

• Takes 20% more Trust damage.
• Takes 30% more Fire damage.

 

5. Shockwave

(Let the power within lose and destroy your foes)

The energy within this blade of mine threatened to break through, that's unless I release it. But it must be done soon.

Battle to me feels like sparks are flying and I have an uncontrollable need to cause destruction. Come now friends let's have a little fun.

Shockwave has a lot of potential in my opinion, if used right it can be amazing. It can be the best option in both PvP and PvE which in itself is great. My analysis is that it can be incorporated in most Builds.

What ShockwaveExcels at?

• Aggro.
  • Thanks to the perk Despised, you generate a 145% threat that attracts all your foes.
• Slows Down.
  • You can now slow your enemies by using Roaring Rupture.
• Extra bit of Damage.
  • Thanks to Vicious, you now cause +7% critical damage.

I would recommend you use it in a Tank build as it can cause aggro This makes it perfect for that. Some advice on this weapon, adding a carnelian to it will add extra aggro, and also choose abilities carefully.

How To Obtain Shockwave?

Obtaining this amazing Greatsword might not be as easy as it sounds. But if you are well equipped I don't see how you could fail. You will need to hunt down your foe, this foe is located in Shattered Mountain. Here is the foe you must seek out:

•  Archmagidter Vocus - Level 66 - Family Corrupted - Requirements Player level 60+.

Your foe has hound minions. Your foe’s weaknesses are:

• Takes 20% more Thrust damage.
• Takes 30% more Arcane damage.
• Takes 15% more Nature damage.

 

6. Amalgamation

(Never let them win)

When you hold me we become one. Wield me forever I will never fail you. We enter a battlefield as one.

In my opinion, this greatsword can hit hard. And paired with the perfect weapon as its partner it can be a terrible thing for your enemies. It can be used for PvE and PvP. My analysis is that it is perfect for a Damager Build.

What Amalgamation Excels at?

• Shattering Armor.
  • Thanks to the perk Trenchent Rend your enemy's armor can be reduced by 16%.
• Shorter Cooldowns.
  • Light & heavy attacks lessen your active weapon cooldowns due to Refreshing Move Perk. 

I would recommend using it with a spear, bow, Firestaff, or a great axe. Some advice though, choose your abilities carefully and player stat points too. 

How To Obtain Amalgamation?

Obtaining this masterpiece of a weapon is surely going to take a bit. But it can be achieved as long as you are committed.

Artemis Boon Drop

Remember, you will have to have the boons active. To get the boons activated, you are required to consume one of the following potions:

• Weak Boon of Artemis Potion - Tier I
• Common Boon of Artemis Potion - Tier I
• Common Boon of Artemis Potion - Tier II

Storms are brewing, but it does not affect me as my heart is one with the cold. The blizzard hits the battlefield like a wave. Run if you can or let it consume you the choice is yours. 

Cold Calamity of the Soldier is in its own class of greatswords, at least in my opinion. It can be used in many builds. My analysis is that it can be used for PvE and PvP but is best for PvE.

What Cold Calamity of the Soldier Excels at?

• Shorter Cooldowns.
  • Light & heavy attacks lessen your active weapon cooldowns due to Refreshing Move Perk. 
• Ice Damage.
  • The perk Frost Attunement every attack converts 14% weapon damage to Ice.
• Getting Lucky.
  • Thanks to the Perk Luck, you stand a chance at more items from monsters.

I would recommend that you use it in a Support or Damager Build. Here is a tiny bit of advice, use it for PvE as the lucky perk is useless in PvP. 

How To Obtain Cold Calamity of the Soldier

This weapon is a little different in the way it can be obtained. You will need to attend the Winter Convergence to receive the recipe to craft this masterpiece of a greatsword.

Crafting this has a Few requirements:

• Weaponsmithing Skill Level 205.
• Forge Tier 2.

You get these awards for crafting this greatsword:

• 75,888 Xp for the Weaponsmithing Skill.
• 68 Territory Standing.

My opinion of this greatsword is that with its healing Perk, it could be amazing if used right. This greatsword is perfect not just for PvE but also for PvP. My analysis is that with the right abilities selected, it could be fantastic.

What Taiyi Greatsword Excels at?

• Shorter Cooldowns.
  • Light & heavy attacks lessen your active weapon cooldowns due to Refreshing Move Perk.
• Health Back.
  • You heal for 72% of the damage your last strike deals.

I would suggest you use Taiyi Greatsword in a Support or Damager Build. These would suit it best in my opinion. Also here is a little advice, choose Crosscut as one of your abilities.

How To Obtain Taiyi Greatsword

Obtaining this beauty can be a bit of a task. You will have to track down these enemies in Ebonscale Reach and slay them, in the hope they drop what you are looking for. Now these are only the ones I know of, but I am sure there are many more:

Tarnished name or none, it doesn't matter. All that matters is what I am capable of on the battlefield. Enemies fear me for I bring death, Allies get out of my way for I shall slay all our foes.

In my opinion, this greatsword is a marvels weapon. Paired with all the right gear and in the right hands I wouldn’t want to face it. Agamemnon is great for a lot of builds. My analysis is that it is more than capable for both PvP and PvE. 

What Agamemnon Excels at?

• Remove Enemy Buff.
  • Hit your enemy with Skyward Slash remove one of your enemy’s buffs and reduce the rest.
• Shorter Cooldowns.
  • Light & heavy attacks lessen your active weapon cooldowns due to Refreshing Move Perk. 

I would recommend that you choose Skyward Slash as one of your abilities, due to the fact that it pairs great with this weapon. A tiny bit of advice, select all other abilities with care. 

How To Obtain Agamemnon?

Obtaining this might be a bit difficult. As I don't know which of the enemies drop it though I know you need to have the Artemis Boon active for the enemy to drop it. I am sure with a little hunting you will find this weapon.

• Bind On Pickup.
• Named Item.
• Tier V.
• Scales With: STR 81%, DEX 80%.
• 8.5 Weight.
• 3000 Durability.

Weapon Perks

• +19 Constitution.
• +19 Dexterity.
• Keenly Jagged: Inflicts Bleed on critical hit, dealing 10% weapon damage per second for 6s (7s cooldown).
• Empty Socket: Add a gem to get its effect.
• Energizing Counter: When Calamity Counter is activated, immediately gain 50 Stamina.
• Random Perk if gear score is [600-625] or [675-700].

Why is Stormbound Greatsword of the Brigand, a great weapon?

I fight with everything I have, I run into danger without a second thought for my life loving the rush too much. I cut down all my enemies and those that just get cut will soon die.

In my opinion, this greatsword is perfect for a few of the Builds in the game. And it can work for both PvE and also PvP.  My analysis is with all the right equipment it can be a powerful weapon.

What Stormbound Greatsword of the Brigand Excels at?

• Bleed.
  • Thanks to Keenly Jagged you can inflict bleed on a critical hit.
• Stamina Back.
  • You gain 50% of stamina back when Clamity is active.

I would recommend using this great sword in a Dameger Build as I think it would be best suited for this. Here is a little advice, always choose carefully. 

How To Obtain Stormbound Greatsword of the Brigand?

This wonderful greatsword is reasonably obtainable. All you have to do is dive into the Starstone Barrows Expedition and slay a few monsters, see it’s not so bad. It can be found in this chest:

• Starstone Barrows Mutator Chest - Legendary.
