In ‘Not For Broadcast’ players take on the role of a director at the ‘National Nightly News.’ The developers describe the players as being artists. Their exact words were “You are the artist and the broadcast is your canvas.”

Players are in complete control of what gets broadcasted, and what does not. They can choose whether they would like to entertain audiences, or whether they would like to inspire fear in the hearts of their nation.

Players will have the power to control how the world views powerful figures, choosing to ruin careers with scandalous gossip or to raise people to power through the portrayal of their greatness.

To achieve their desired effects, players can change camera angles. They can cue the music and special effects of their choice. Players can also censor out anything that they do not want audiences to hear and see, including foul language and nudity.

‘Not For Broadcast’ also allows players to choose which financial path to take to benefit the National Nightly News the most, including which ads to run, which sponsorships to take, and which ones to decline. Keeping the people happy is the ultimate goal of the National Nightly News, with the idea being to keep ratings and bank balances as high as possible.
